Legend of Ymir
What kind of game is this? Legend of Ymir is an MMORPG developed by the South Korean studio WeMade that can be played on PC and mobile. The MMO takes place in a world inspired by Norse mythology and offers players a mix of PvP battles, siege warfare, and an extensive, in-depth story.
In addition to classic MMO content like quests and battles, Legend of Ymir also offers leisure activities such as jump & run puzzles and fishing. Currently, there are 4 classes available for players to choose from:
- A berserker who acts as a classic tank with sword and shield
- The skald, who is responsible for healing, resurrecting, and buffing with his harp
- The völva, a sorceress using elemental forces
- The warlord, who delivers melee damage with a spear in each hand
What sets the graphics apart? The graphics of Legend of Ymir are one of the standout features of the game. The MMORPG runs on Unreal Engine 5, which provides a particularly detailed and vibrant portrayal of the game world.
The graphics impress despite being developed for mobile devices and PC with impressive volumetric effects that mask the fact that the MMORPG tries to prevent all eyes from the distance and puts all performance into beautiful graphics around the character.
The environments are inspired by Norse mythology, featuring splendid landscapes, dense forests, and inviting cities. Characters and monsters are designed in detail, and the animations and light effects contribute to the atmosphere. This creates a visually appealing experience.
Where does the MMORPG struggle? The fact that Legend of Ymir is being developed for both PC and mobile devices may make it unappealing to many. The fact that the MMORPG comes from the developer studio WeMade might also discourage players. The company is known for incorporating blockchain technology, NFTs, and Play2Earn systems in its games – all features that western MMORPG players are reluctant to accept.
Where can you play it? Legend of Ymir is currently only available in South Korea, where it is released for PC and mobile. A global version is also planned, but there is still no official date for its release outside of South Korea. It started on February 20, 2025.
