Solo Leveling
Alternative Names: Ore dake Level Up na Ken, I Level Up Alone
Genres: Action, Adventure, Fantasy
Episodes: 25 (2 Seasons)
Stream available on: Crunchyroll
For a while now, modern humanity has faced problems. All around the world, so-called Gates are opening; portals to other worlds, behind which monsters lurk. In each world, an end boss must be defeated as quickly as possible, or else the monsters can stream from the gate into the real world.
Through these portals travel the Hunters – chosen individuals who have gained special powers reminiscent of various classes from MMORPGs. Among them is Jin-Woo – the weakest of all Hunters. However, during a visit to an unusual gate, he nearly loses his life and awakens in the hospital with new powers.
Afterward, Jin-Woo is not only significantly stronger than before – he is also the only Hunter capable of climbing new levels and becoming even stronger…
Why is Solo Leveling suitable for WoW fans? Even if one might not want to admit it, everyone has probably dreamed at least once how cool it would be to carry the skills gained from video games into the real world. Exactly this power fantasy is what Solo Leveling offers.
Even though the anime is primarily action-oriented and the story is a bit flat, it is enjoyable to watch Jin-Woo become more powerful and essentially be the only person capable of solving the problems. His rise from an absolute nobody to a nearly god-like being is an entertaining journey that is particularly effectively staged.
Solo Leveling is one of the most successful anime of recent years and definitely worth a look – as most MMORPG fans are all too familiar with the rush of “getting stronger, more and more.”
