What is Albion Online? Albion Online is a sandbox MMORPG by the German developer Sandbox Interactive. It revolves around your freedom, crafting, and also PvP. You create your character without being bound to a class or fixed playstyle.
With this, you explore the world in isometric perspective, which is divided into various instanced areas and cities. There are also plenty of dungeons that can be randomly generated and found.
While in the early levels, getting accustomed to the combat system and crafting plays an important role, the PvP aspect comes in at endgame. Because in the highest areas, there is open PvP and even the possibility of losing your gear upon death.
Despite the PvP, Albion Online has enjoyed great popularity on PC for years. In June 2021, it was released for Android and iOS, offering even crossplay between platforms. In April 2026, it followed with the release on Xbox.

- Albion Online has a rating of 4.6 stars with nearly 394,000 reviews on the Play Store and over 10 million downloads.
- In the App Store, it scores 4.7 stars with nearly 22,000 reviews.
- 78% positive on Steam with 92,685 reviews.
The reviews praise that Albion Online is not a typical mobile MMORPG. Similar to RuneScape, it was first released for PC, which means typical aspects like autoplay or pay-to-win were not implemented.
However, you have to be a fan of PvP and grinding if you want to have fun in Albion Online.
Where can I download Albion Online? The mobile MMORPG can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or the App Store, but it is also available on PC, such as on Steam. It is free-to-play.
Who should play Albion Online? Albion Online is clearly aimed at PvP and sandbox fans. There are regularly new seasons, and the outpost battles are a central part of the game. However, it is extremely successful in this niche.
Since switching to free-to-play in April 2019, the MMORPG has continuously broken player records. The launch in Asia in 2023 was able to further increase these numbers. New servers for Europe followed later. This allowed more than 350,000 players to be attracted to Albion in May 2024.
Especially cool is that players can use their account both on PC and smartphone. Difficult challenges can be tackled on the large screen while you handle smaller farming tasks on the smartphone. The game’s success amid many failures has a reason: Developers reveal which feature from Albion Online is a “masterstroke” for the sandbox MMORPG genre
