Superman is super strong, everyone knows that. However, in a new comic, he uses a trick that once again shows that physics doesn’t matter to him.
In Superman #39, the focus is primarily on Superboy Prime, an alternate version of Superman. Originally, he grew up as Clark Kent in a world where superheroes like Superman were just fictional characters in comic books. His stories play heavily with the meta-narrative, which is why he might remind some of Deadpool.
Throughout his story, Superboy Prime finds himself in the dimension where the real heroes and villains exist. He himself develops into a villain and attempts together with Lex Luthor to create a new world.
In the current issue, Superman #39, Superboy Prime goes on a journey through various genres and stories. He even encounters the Superman of the Golden Age, that is, of Earth-2.
The Moon as a Projectile
How is Superboy Prime doing? In the new volume by Joshua Williamson and Dan Mora, Superboy Prime relives important moments that led to his downfall, including a fight against Superman.
The two are in space, and Kal-L, as Superman was originally called, hurls nothing less than the moon at his opponent. Yes, you read that right. The moon. In the weightlessness of space.
It must be noted: The moon has a mass of 7.35 x 10²² kilograms – that is, 73.5 trillion kilos, according to ARD Alpha. When Superman throws it, he needs not only ENORMOUS strength but also must ensure that he exerts uniform pressure while throwing. This way, a gravitational shield would form around the moon, preventing it from breaking apart during the action.
YES, it is obvious that Superman’s actions do not have to be realistic. Nevertheless, it is exciting to see that Kal-El himself defies the laws of physics.
Interestingly, Superboy Prime is not particularly impressed by the whole situation in the comic. He comments on the moon throw with the words: “The moon? That’s so Silver Age…” – before he is hit by the huge gray sphere, which spectacularly shatters into countless pieces.
The story shows that the “old” Superman still has what it takes and can hold his own against his modern versions through creative and sometimes absurd actions. Are you fans of such battles?
