There is finally a first teaser for the remake of One Piece by Studio Wit. MeinMMO editor Nikolas Hernes thinks it’s really good but still can’t get excited about the new series.
What is The One Piece? In 2024, it was announced that One Piece is getting a remake, and it’s from the renowned Wit Studio (Attack on Titan before Season 4, Vinland Saga). The new anime is meant to retell the story, with a more current and fresh animation style.
By 2027, the anime is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix, and now a first teaser has been released. To be honest: It’s really well-animated, but my biggest problem remains.

In the first teaser, Wit Studio shows how well they can animate. In the brief time, there are already dynamic fight scenes, and I also really like the colors. The feeling of One Piece is perfectly conveyed, and you can’t really wish for more, can you?
Animations are beautiful, but I have no emotions
The first teaser doesn’t generate any emotions for me. On one hand, I still find it strange to remake a work that isn’t finished, on the other hand, I would have liked this approach for other works. A frequently mentioned example is Berserk.
Another aspect that bothers me is that it feels so unnecessary. The original anime has its weaknesses, but The One Piece feels like an attempt to replace the old anime. There’s no new story or new approach. Sure, the animations are beautiful, but it lacks its own identity.
Another point for me is the length of One Piece. When is the remake supposed to end if the manga is still ongoing?
Even if the pacing is improved: That’s exactly what several movies have already done. East Blue, Drum Island, and Alabasta are all arcs that have already been beautifully processed into movies. Sure, some new characters were added, but at least as a fan, you saw something new.
I also have to think of Dragon Ball Kai (2009 – 2015). The anime cut filler and made Dragon Ball Z a tighter experience, but the spark never jumped over. The old soundtrack was missing, and I always loved watching Piccolo getting a driver’s license.
But maybe that’s just a problem of mine. I grew up with One Piece and have seen the episodes so many times that I don’t need a new anime.
