Sauercrowd, the project by HandOfBlood, Metashi, and Papaplatte, is currently dominating Twitch. The idea: throw newcomers into WoW Hardcore and see what happens. A female streamer has now learned how important it is to hit “Enter” at the right moment – or not.
Who is the streamer? LillyTheChilly usually hangs out in the “Just Chatting” area on Twitch and streams all sorts of games. She is not really known for World of Warcraft.
With an average of 360 viewers (according to sullygnome), she is among the smaller streamers on the platform. In Sauercrowd, she played a human mage alongside Staativ and Nooreax – the latter having just recently passed away.
This is the deadly mistake: Lilly’s teammates are currently discussing Nooreax’s untimely death, who apparently took on too large a group of enemies after too little sleep. The mage herself is sitting in the Elwynn forest near Princess and has transformed one of the follower pigs into a sheep to take a breather.
In the clip on Twitch, you can see her silently grinning while eating a bite and not realizing that the transformation is being canceled. The pig runs towards her and attacks directly, even though her mage already had very little health left.
Instead of casting a transformation again and fleeing, she is actively typing her keybinds in the chat – something that happens to every WoW player at least once, even the self-proclaimed pros. If you wonder why the character suddenly stops moving, it’s often just that the chat window is open (due to pressing “Enter” or “R”) and instead of casting spells, it shows: “1231212wawawtfichkannmichnichtbewegensdads” in the chat.
Lilly experiences exactly this situation and just a few moments later her mage – fortunately “only” at level 8 – is dead. Her death is commented on in voice chat with: “WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!” and: “I told you, we are the Suicide Squad.”
WoW newcomers learn from the mistakes that all of you have known for 20 years
What is a situation that seasoned WoW veterans have certainly experienced at least once very early on, represents a novelty for many members of Sauercrowd. Because many of them do not know World of Warcraft at all, and for some, WoW Hardcore is even their very first MMO.
Many of the members are going into the game completely blind, partly with tips like: “Do not go alone into caves under any circumstances,” but some mistakes you only learn on your own – like, that the most dangerous bosses are not NPCs and can be killed without attacks.
Apparently, the plan is working, as Sauercrowd is dominating Twitch globally at launch and gives WoW an enormous boost on the streaming platform. Deaths like Lilly’s are definitely one of the reasons for the success, even the OnlyFangs founder Sodapoppin is already reacting to the collected clips (on YouTube).
That a death in WoW Hardcore directly means starting a new character surprisingly deters very few people, especially considering that they have no experience in WoW. The ambition seems to be stronger than the frustration. One female streamer is even really putting in the effort: Twitch streamer has played WoW for less than a month, has already put in over 200 hours and impresses one of the bosses at Sauercrowd
