Spider-Noir is a new series that has launched on Amazon Prime. The special feature: you can watch the episodes either in color or in black and white. But which variant is better?
Spider-Noir offers an alternative version of Spider-Man set in 1930s New York. Nicolas Cage embodies the private investigator Ben Reilly, who also acts as the anti-hero “The Spider”.
In keeping with the dark mood of the series and its references to the film noir genre, you can watch the individual episodes either in black and white or in color. With this freedom, the question arises whether there is a variant that is better.
Spider-Noir: Color or Black and White?
Which is better? First, it is important to know that neither variant is right or wrong; otherwise, it wouldn’t have been made available by the producers.
The series works wonderfully in both variants. Therefore, it primarily depends on your taste whether you prefer stylish black and white or the rich images of the color version.
But a mix of both styles is also possible. For those undecided, we have a recommendation from Marvel Mania on x.com, which divides the episodes thematically:
- Episodes 1-3: Black and White. In the first three episodes, the world is established, and the black and white is perfect for conveying the dense and dark atmosphere of the series.
- Episodes 4-5: Color. Both the costumes and the sets are too beautiful in their color design not to admire them for a few episodes. The middle part of the series is well suited for this.
- Episode 6: Black and White. This episode explores the origin of the investigator Ben Reilly, addressing dark themes such as loneliness. Black and white supports the mood well.
- Episodes 7-8: Color or Black and White. Towards the end of the season, epic battles occur that make an impact in both variants. There is no clear answer here.
A similar recommendation is made by the YouTube channel terr, which also argues based on the mood of the respective episodes.
Lastly, of course, there is the option to watch the entire series twice and stick with one of the two variants from start to finish. What is your preferred way to watch Spider-Noir ?
