The new Call of Duty 2019 seems to be Modern Warfare 4. We don’t know much about the game yet, but it sounds more and more like it is heading towards “Games as a service”, a kind of light-MMO like GTA 5 Online or Destiny. Perhaps even with an open world?
These are the new statements about Call of Duty 2019: During the quarterly report from Activision Blizzard, there were further hints about the new Call of Duty 2019, which will probably be Modern Warfare 4.
The Chief Operating Officer and President of Activision Blizzard, Coddy Johnson, commented on the new game:
- The big goal is to retain the core player base throughout the launch quarter – progress has already been made with Black Ops 4, which has been played significantly longer than WWII a year prior
- New content, modes, and events will continue to be released for the new Call of Duty – but they aim to do even more than with Black Ops 4
- The Call of Duty team is hard at work for the big fall release
- Enthusiasm is exceptionally high across all of Activision Blizzard for the game
- They believe that the launch and post-launch content of the new Call of Duty will be a “Game Changing experience” for the players
The game is expected to be officially revealed by June 2019. Then everyone should be able to understand why Activision Blizzard holds the new game from Infinity Ward in such high regard.

This is the big question: The question is what Activision Blizzard plans as a big bang that should convince people immediately.
The focus of the statement is that Activision Blizzard wants to bring more and more new content to Call of Duty 2019.
Clearly, they want to deliver more than “content, modes, and events”: The question arises, what will be left?
Especially since rumors have emerged that Call of Duty 2019 is coming without a Battle Royale mode and without Zombies.
So what is the big surprise supposed to be?
What we still know: These new statements coincide with an announcement from February 2019, stating that they wanted to provide a “large and expansive multiplayer world.”
What exactly is meant by this large world seems to be open at the moment. Discussions have already occurred on reddit that it could be heading towards “Open World.”
This supports the Games-as-a-service idea: If a “large multiplayer world” ties in with the announcement to support the game even more actively after launch, we are already touching on the foundational ideas behind games like GTA 5 Online, Destiny, or The Division 2.
A large world that is continuously supplied with more content and expanded. Such a “mode” would be a big deal for Call of Duty and worthy of the fuss that Activision Blizzard is already making.
It would also explain why they are talking about Call of Duty 2019 as such an ambitious game.
Another possibility would be a major mode that is significantly changed and modified over time, but is rather a XXL version of an existing mode.

The expectations for the new Call of Duty seem to be rising, in any case.
After Activision Blizzard lost a franchise in the “Games as a service” area with Destiny, they might be tempted to push into this gap.
