When new LEGO sets for Pokémon are announced, they meet with mixed reactions from the fanbase. But with one Pokémon, despite the criticism, they seem to have done a lot right.
What kind of LEGO sets are these? After the first collaboration between LEGO and Pokémon, the LEGO Group is now releasing 12 more sets that include well-known monsters like the Kanto starters, Gengar, Evoli, Mew, and more. All of these are also equipped with the new LEGO Smart Brick, which provides light effects, sound, and more technical sensors.
The new sets are already being critically examined by Pokémon fans on Reddit, with varying reception depending on their design. While some exceptions like Knakrack and Nachtara are generally well-received, other designs are described as “nightmare material,” which is not a big problem for many when it comes to a monster.

“Ugly” design provides a purchasing argument for one Pokémon
Which Pokémon is being referred to? Mainly, the singing Pokémon Pummeluff is causing a stir in the community. The blocky LEGO design of the otherwise completely round Pokémon, along with its eyes that stare directly into your soul, nearly evokes pity among fans: “Poor Pummeluff” (TalCohron).
However, this very look is a reason for other Pokémon fans to buy the Pummeluff LEGO set: “Dude, Pummeluff is so bad that I want it anyway. It would look absolutely funny on my shelf!” (Final-Finger1003.)
Do Pokémon and LEGO just not belong together? However, that doesn’t seem to be the general statement among Pokémon fans. Instead of focusing on the Pokémon themselves, the community simply wishes for a different focus, as volcanicsquad09 writes:
“For Arceus’ sake, just make the buildings, man.”
The Pummeluff set and the other 11 new LEGO sets can be pre-ordered starting today, June 2, 2026 – if one wants to, of course. They will be released starting August 1, 2026. One fan did not see the point in spending over 650 euros for an exclusive LEGO set and simply built it himself, following his own instructions: LEGO fan builds exclusive set of Pokémon worth 650 euros himself and shares the instructions with the community
