On May 1st, the open early access phase of the new online shooter Scavengers began. The team quickly ran out of keys on Steam due to the overwhelming demand. We are looking at the first reviews to see how the shooter is being received.
What can you expect in Scavengers? In the free-to-play shooter, you must venture to a frozen Earth after a catastrophe to search for data. This data is meant to secure the survival of humanity. You will fight in snowy landscapes against wild beasts and other player teams who want to snatch the data from you.
Afterwards, you need to bring the data to the dropship and from there to the orbital station. Only if you succeed will you earn a reward. You must survive in dangerous storms, fight monsters, and battle other players.
How to participate: Initially, only keys for access to the early access phase were distributed. For example, via Twitch Drops or through giveaways on gaming websites. However, the demand for Steam keys for Scavengers was so high that the development team decided on May 1st to open the game to everyone. You can now simply download Scavengers for free via Steam or the Epic Games Store.

The opinion on Scavengers is mixed
How is the game being received? Since it is still an early access phase that just opened a few days ago, there are no ratings on Metacritic yet. Therefore, we will look at the ratings on Steam and comments on Facebook and Twitter. The Steam ratings are mixed at 54% (as of May 3rd at 9:45 AM with 2,641 votes).
Here’s what negative reviews say:
- Ravencypher explains (via Steam): “It’s garbage. Your teammates never work together, the game crashes every 2 minutes, there’s massive lag, and the special weapons are simply not strong enough. Oh, and other players can shoot you across the map through rocks and walls…”
- Moonship85 summarizes his experience (via Steam): “Bad loot – Check, stupid wandering around looking for loot – Check, enemies appearing out of nowhere – Check, teammates have no clue – Check, enemies are fully overpowered with ultra-rare gear – Check.”
- Backstab is frustrated with the technical condition (via Twitter): “I just played 3 games in a row and every time at the end it crashed and I got no reward.”
Scavengers apparently already has cheating issues before release
Here are some positive voices:
- C.C. Regan says (via Facebook): “Okay, the game is really fun. But I think there are cheaters with aimbots. A team of three players could shoot me without missing once while I was cloaked…”
- Mateusz Fiuk writes (via Twitter): “The game is quite fun, but in every lobby there is at least one team using cheats.”
- Twitch.tv/DinoBiboTV explains (via Steam): “The game itself is really enjoyable. It has some rough edges here and there, but it has great potential. Therefore, I hope it is embraced by the players. I can definitely recommend it. It is something completely different from the usual homogeneous fare in the BR universe.”
In the comments on the Facebook page and the MeinMMO website, users compare the game with the shooter “The Cycle” – some players agree that Scavengers has potential, but may not captivate some players in its current state for too long.
It should be noted that Scavengers is still in the early access phase. This is not the final version. Therefore, technical problems and bugs are to be expected. The developers do want player feedback to see what works and where improvements are needed.
