A new soulslike on Steam promises tough bosses that will mercilessly flatten you. The whole thing is also expected to be quite brutal in co-op, even if you bring friends.
What kind of game is this? Serpent’s Gaze is an action RPG with soulslike and roguelike elements set in a dark desert world. You fight alone or with up to 3 players against tough opponents whose mechanics and movesets are reminiscent of Elden Ring as you explore the secrets of an ancient civilization.
You have the choice of various weapons that you can enhance on the go with blessings, allowing you to build different builds, as known from roguelikes like Hades. You can also expect various modifications in the form of curses for each run that refresh the experience. For example, you may be pursued by minibosses, or traps may line your way.
However, unlike typical roguelikes, the runs do not become easier over time but harder as you improve. The levels are handcrafted and not randomly generated, so you can essentially learn them. The game aims to bridge the gap between souls and roguelikes.
If you are curious now, you can either dive in directly on release on May 25, 2026, or check out the demo during the upcoming Steam Next Fest from June 15 – 22.

What was included in the demo so far? The demo at the last Next Fest offered the following contents, allowing you to try it out and decide if the game is for you:
- Complete multiplayer with up to 4 players
- The first 2 of 8 levels
- 9 event rooms after bosses
- 5 classes and weapon types
- 103 upgrades of over 200 in the final game
- 17 relics of 30 in the final game
- 18 enemies, 1 miniboss, and 1 boss
According to the developers, this allowed you to spend several hours in the game and experiment. Since the demo was already featured at the last Steam Next Fests and the next one is close to the upcoming release, it is likely that the developers will make their demo accessible again.
