New Arc Line is currently in Early Access on Steam and has now received its first content update. The update brings a new playable race, two classes, and more story – at least partially what players are asking for.
What kind of game is this?
- New Arc Line is a classic role-playing game played in isometric perspective (“isometric view”) and primarily with the mouse. Various races and classes are available for your character.
- The core of the game is the story. In search of a cure for a deadly disease, you journey to the city of New Arc, only to discover that big cities are not always so friendly. New Arc Line promises both important decisions and challenges.
- To distinguish itself from well-known genre games, such as Baldur’s Gate 3 or Pathfinder, New Arc Line combines fantasy with steampunk: instead of just magic and sword, you also have steam engines and with the new update even steam-powered power fists.
What’s included in the new update: “Smoke & Mirrors” is the first free update for New Arc Line on Steam and was released for free for everyone on July 17, 2025. The main feature of the update is dwarves as a new race along with two classes that come with the race.
“Hellfire Mages” are occultists from the “brutal school of magic yet.” The class focuses solely on offensive spells with destructive effects, primarily through fire or demonic powers. They combine magic with brutal melee combat using maces or morning stars.
Corresponding to the ingenuity of the dwarves, the second class is the “Steam Mechanic.” They build their own steam-powered servo armors and power fists, reminiscent of steampunk versions of Space Marines from Warhammer 40,000.
Currently, the classes are only available for dwarves but are expected to be playable for all races later. Additionally, the update brings a new quest line that continues the current story and prepares the story for future updates.
“Promising, but needs work”
New Arc Line currently has a 62% rating from 43 recent reviews with a “mixed” rating – significantly lower than the 79% rating across all reviews.
Players particularly criticize the lack of content. New Arc Line looks great and is fun with what it offers; it’s just not much. The story is described as grand and extensive, but currently, you can only play through two chapters.
In general, there are recommendations for the game, but rather “not yet,” but rather when it’s finished. Nevertheless, some players want to support the developers and invest in Early Access. In line with the update, New Arc Line is currently on sale on Steam and costs only 15.99 instead of the regular 19.99 Euros until July 21.
