GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated titles of 2025, and gamers are looking forward to its release. In the meantime, many of you will soon have the opportunity to play GTA 5 for free before shelling out 100 dollars for the successor.
Why is GTA 5 free? Starting April 15, 2025, Grand Theft Auto V will be available again in Game Pass. This applies not only to console players – PC users can also grab the game and receive the Enhanced Update as a bonus. The update brings improved graphics and performance, ray tracing features, and exclusive content in GTA Online.
The Enhanced Update has been available on Steam since early March. However, it caused issues with GTA Online and fans were angry.
Can I still play with my friends? Yes, because Microsoft has confirmed that all users of the Standard and Ultimate editions of Game Pass have access to all console and PC versions. Anyone who owns a PC Game Pass can download and play both editions. This way, you can also play with friends who own GTA 5 on Steam or Epic Games (via news.xbox.com).
This is how much GTA 6 could cost: GTA 6 is set to be released in autumn 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Whether you will really have to shell out 100 dollars (about 90 €) for GTA 6 upon release is still unclear. One analyst has looked at the market and speculated that GTA 6 could possibly cost between 80 and 100 dollars – which could mean a price of 100 euros here.
The reason is that games are becoming increasingly expensive and there are more and more “Black Hole” games – titles that captivate players so much that they hardly buy new games. Additionally, the market is slowly becoming saturated. If Rockstar indeed raises the price for GTA 6, other publishers may follow suit and argue: “Our game is also AAA, so it deserves a AAA price.”
Before GTA 6 even comes out, Nintendo has already ignited the price debate. At the Nintendo Direct on April 2, new games were announced alongside the new console – and the prices have risen compared to the predecessor of the upcoming Switch 2.
