A trainer was recently stripped of an important victory in Pokémon GO. Now the community is noticing interesting parallels.
In the world of eSports, there are various reasons why someone can be banned or why victories can be stripped. This includes not only cheating but also unsporting behavior.
Exactly that was also alleged against Firestar73, who had his victory at the Pokémon GO regional championships in Orlando stripped due to his celebration. The community has now noticed interesting details about the case.
1 plus 1 apparently isn’t always 2
What are those details? Looking at the player’s celebration, it becomes apparent that he first throws off his headset and then stands up to raise his arms in the air. Regarding the second part of the celebration, Entire_Pineapple4732 found an interesting parallel on Reddit and posted it in a humorously edited montage.
There is a pose in Pokémon GO that is very similar to that. Therefore, the creator of the post also fittingly writes: “Firestar73 was disqualified from a regional PvP tournament – precisely due to the same victory gesture that our avatars make every time we win a battle.”

However, since the reason for Firestar73’s subsequent defeat, according to itsAXN (via X), primarily lies in the removal of the headset, this parallel will likely have no impact on the decision.
In the comments to the post on Reddit, EcruteakEddie has also linked an interesting video. Here the trainer wdage can be seen, who was also able to achieve victory in another championship from 2023.
Looking at the video, it becomes clear that his celebration, especially the removal of the headset, looks very similar to what Firestar73 did.

EcruteakEddie additionally writes: “What I meant was that wdage reacted the same way upon victory and there was no punishment. They need to be more consistent in their decisions. In both cases, in my opinion, the celebration should not have been penalized.”
Why such a similar action during the celebration has such different implications for both players seems to leave the community questioning.
