What kind of event is this? After Kanto and Johto, it is now the third region’s turn: As in previous years, Pokémon GO is hosting a “tour” event. This time, the region “Hoenn” is in the spotlight.
This year, there are two variants of the tour:
- A locally bound event in Las Vegas, which took place on February 18 and 19
- A worldwide GO tour that all players can participate in
In this article, we will look at the contents of the worldwide Hoenn Tour.

Global Hoenn Tour in Pokémon GO – Times, Tickets, Shinys
When will the worldwide Hoenn Tour take place? The Hoenn Tour will run on February 25 and 26, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM local time.
Is there a ticket? According to a report by Eurogamer, Niantic confirmed that there will be no major event ticket for the worldwide Hoenn Tour. Only the Jirachi research will remain as a paid ticket, while the rest of the event should be free.
The local version of the event in Las Vegas a week earlier, however, required a paid ticket.
What about the shiny rate? According to Niantic, the shiny rates of certain Pokémon species will be boosted for the worldwide Hoenn Tour, but not all. Which ones are still unknown.

Special Research on Proto-Groudon and Proto-Kyogre
Update on Proto-Groudon and Proto-Kyogre: The proto forms of both monsters work similarly to mega evolutions, with “proto energy.” They also receive new special attacks and will be absolute top attackers. Moreover, the proto forms can enhance the attacks of their raid teams if the types match.

This is the research: The event will bring a special research called “Legend Hunt,” in which Professor Willow and Rhi will send players to search for the “Red Gem” and the “Blue Gem.”
These gems are associated with the new forms of the legendary Hoenn Pokémon: Proto-Groudon and Proto-Kyogre.
Players will be able to encounter both monsters during the GO Tour. They will also be featured in the new “Proto Raids.”
Since Groudon and Kyogre can both be shiny, the proto forms can also be obtained in shiny – Here is how they look:
Choose a side with special research “Proto-Rumbling” – Ruby or Sapphire
Update on the side choice: As of now, on February 17, 2023, the special research “Proto-Rumbling” has been added. It allows you to choose a side when you complete it.

Two options: For the GO Tour, you can choose one of two variants: Ruby or Sapphire.
Depending on your decision, you will receive a corresponding medal and specific event features will differ.
New Masterwork Research with Shiny Jirachi
Update on the Masterwork Research: Trainers can purchase a ticket for the “Masterwork Research: Fulfilled Wish” from February 20 to March 20. It will cost 4.99 USD (or the corresponding price in local currency).

This is the Masterwork Research: After Mew and Celebi in Kanto and Johto, the mysterious Pokémon Jirachi is getting a Masterwork Research. As part of this research, you will be able to obtain the shiny version of the Pokémon.
The previous Masterwork Researches were long and not entirely easy to complete. Niantic announced that there will be two versions of the research:
- A variant for players with a ticket from the Las Vegas event, where Jirachi appears after fewer research steps
- A worldwide variant for everyone, which is longer
Spawns in different habitats, raids, and field researches
Which monsters will spawn? The monsters from the Hoenn region, meaning the third generation, will be in focus. It can be expected that nearly all monsters from the generation will be available – However, there is a special case with the notoriously absent Kecleon, which is not quite clear yet.

- Swablu (+ evolution Altaria)
- Shuppet (+ evolution Banette)
- Jirachi

These are habitats: Participants of previous tours or GO Fest know the principle: Hourly, habitats will change in the game, bringing different monsters. Some spawns are already known.

Which monsters hatch from the eggs? During the event, there will be a modified egg pool. In the eggs, you will find the following Pokémon:
- 2-km Eggs: Pichu*, Fluffeluff*, Geckarbor*, Flemmli*, Hydropi*, Azurill* and Isso*
- 5-km Eggs: Swablu*, Shuppet* and Tuska*
- 7-km Eggs: Knacklion*, Barschwa*, Kindwurm* and Tanhel*
- 10-km Eggs: Qurtel*, Tropius* and Relicanth*
What do the field researches for the global GO Tour bring?
What’s in the research: In the field researches for the global GO Tour, there will be ghost Pokémon, but also mega energy.
It is conceivable that you could get mega energy here for the starters Blaziken, Swampert, and Sceptile. This energy was first available at the Hoenn Raid Day, but since then, there has been no further opportunity to obtain mega energy for the three through raids or tasks.
During the Raid Day, it was also mentioned that the mega energy for the 3 monsters would be available again at the Hoenn Tour. It is quite possible that the field researches will provide mega energies here.
