Pokémon GO brings rare Shiny and also a new monster

The next event has been announced in Pokémon GO. Included is a time-limited Shiny and a completely new monster.

What kind of event is this? The event is called “Steel Determination” and will take place from Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM to Monday, May 4, 2026, at 8:00 PM.

One of the highlights of the event is likely to be a Shiny that you can rarely obtain. You can also catch a brand new monster during the event – and even receive it directly as a Shiny.

Which Shiny is time-limited? During the event, you can obtain Meltan as a Shiny when you activate the mystery box. Since the release of Pokémon HOME, you don’t even need a Switch to obtain the mystery box in Pokémon GO.

Additionally, the cooldown of the mystery box is reduced during the event, allowing you to activate it more frequently and thus have more chances to get a Shiny Meltan.

Which monster is making its debut? You can also obtain Slurm for the first time in the game during the event. The monster has been around since Generation 9 and is of Steel type. It has no evolution. You can also receive it directly as a Shiny upon its debut if you are lucky.

You will find the monster in 3-star raids during the event.

What other monsters are there? Additionally, various event monsters are roaming in the wild, in raids, and in field research. These include the following:
In the wild:

• Magnemite*
• Stollunior*
• Kastadur*
• Gladiantri* (rare)

In 1-star raids:

• Gramokles*
• Schilterus*
• Tanhel*

In 3-star raids:

• Slurm*

In field research:

• Magnemite*
• Tannza*
• Nasgnet*
• Bronzel*
• Rotomurf*
• Kastadur*
• Tanhel* (rare)
• Schilterus* (rare)

All monsters marked with an * can also appear as Shiny if you are lucky.

What’s in the GO Pass? During the event, there will again be a separate GO Pass. This will be active for the entire duration of the event and is available in both a free and a paid version (GO Pass Deluxe). From Saturday, May 2, at 12:00 AM to Monday, May 4, at 7:59 PM, you can earn as many points as you want.

In the free Pass, you can expect the following rewards:

• Encounters with event Pokémon like Tanhel, Gladiantri, Gramokles* and Meltan*
• Super Rocket Radar
• Crypto shards and mysterious parts

In the paid version, you will receive in addition the following rewards:

• even more encounters with Steel monsters
• another Super Rocket Radar

Additionally, there will again be 2 major milestones where you can unlock bonuses that will be active until the end of the event:

  • more stardust when you defeat Team GO Rocket grunts
