A particularly frugal trainer has managed to collect over 10,000 coins in Pokémon GO, and that without spending real money on the game. However, the community is amazed about something entirely different.
How did the player collect 10,000 coins? The trainer Mediocre_Station_835 proves to the Pokémon GO community with a screenshot on Reddit that he currently possesses exactly 10,052 coins in the game. The impressive part: He hasn’t spent a single cent on the app and earned all the coins himself. He calls it his “greatest free-to-play achievement.”
He earned the coins solely through gyms, and according to his own statement, also “only” in about 200 days. However, he has earned his 50 coins almost every day for the past 3 years.
Earning 10,000 coins is not as impressive as another skill of the player
What is the community amazed about? While 10,000 coins is an impressive amount, which many players can only dream of based on the reactions on Reddit, they consider other things much more intense. Earning the coins is one thing. What is much harder is saving them.
In response to a player who can’t save coins because he needs more space for even more Pokémon, the collector writes that he has “only” space for 850 Pokémon in total. And with that, he still has 100 free slots.
“Staying at 10,000 coins and only having space for 850 Pokémon is absolutely wild to me,” writes Botorfobor. However, the collector explains that from his perspective, he cannot understand keeping thousands of “unnecessary” Pokémon that cannot be used in gameplay. He justifies this attitude with “quality over quantity.”
What do the accounts of other players look like? The community recognizes from the player’s example that their own efforts to save coins are not as impressive as they initially thought:

A player explicitly asks for tips to quickly earn coins through gyms. In summary, the collector explains that one should focus only on the gyms that already belong to their own team to save time.
However, this only works because he drives a lot in his everyday life and thus gets around a lot. However, it could still be a good tip for players who live in cities or in areas where many gyms are present.
