300 GB of free storage? Yes, it’s possible if you forget about junk under Windows for years. This happened to a user. There’s a trick to avoid this forgetfulness.
Storage space is particularly valuable right now, and anyone needing a new SSD has to pay several hundred euros quickly. A user on Reddit has now realized that he forgot to empty the recycle bin under Windows for years. Over 10 years, some files accumulated, as he reports: In between, he not only updated the operating system multiple times – he has been using the system since Windows 7 – but also installed a larger SSD.

In the end, the user deleted around 300 GB from his junk under Windows, totaling more than 500,000 files. Most of the files were game and mod files, with the largest chunk being mods for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (about 120 GB).
With a keyboard shortcut, you can delete files directly and bypass the recycle bin
How did he notice the full recycle bin? The user reports in a post that he accidentally deleted a file and wanted to recover it. But that led to a peculiar problem (via Reddit.com):
Half a million files, 302 GB of storage. I accidentally deleted something and wanted to restore it from the recycle bin, but opening [the recycle bin] took almost five minutes because the folder contained so many files.
Can you avoid the “forgetting”? Yes, there is a fairly simple trick. If you press the delete key (Del in English) while holding the shift key, you delete the file directly without the stop in the recycle bin.
However, be aware that restoring will no longer be possible through the recycle bin, but requires more effort. This can either be done via the file history under Windows, which you must have activated beforehand, or with external recovery tools. It is important that you do not save new files on the corresponding partition, as this would permanently overwrite the previously deleted files.
RAM is becoming increasingly expensive. A user was very lucky and upgraded months ago. For this reason, he now thanks the community for the recommendation.
