A level 60 warrior experienced what is probably the bitterest hardcore death so far within the Sauercrowd project in WoW Classic. Hardly anyone else has probably invested so much time and gold into their character.
How did it come to an end? The Twitch streamer xHankyy fought the local desert walkers in Tanaris with his level 60 warrior to farm water sacks for the repeatable quest Water Sack Bounty. From level 40, each of these bags provides 380 experience points.
As guild mate Sieglinde explains on YouTube, xHankyy was not part of the “ultimate tubing” crew that farmed hoses for Papaplatte. Instead, he probably wanted to support his girlfriend while leveling. With a character at max level, the desert walker camps are usually not a big challenge…
What went wrong? xHankyy had probably already spent 6 hours in Tanaris farming the water sacks. This apparently affected his concentration. The streamer pulled enemy after enemy after enemy. He only realized late that his health points were slowly but surely reaching a life-threatening level.
With 188 health points remaining and several enemies on his tail, xHankyy noticed the danger: “Uh, guys, we have a problem.” 119 health points. His health potion was on cooldown. However, there were still some other emergency measures available, such as a target dummy.
However, he chose the Goblin Pioneer Explosive. Here is the tooltip for the grenade: “Use: Explodes upon activation and deals 450 to 750 point(s) of fire damage to all nearby hostile units and 375 to 625 point(s) of damage to you. (5 min cooldown)“
xHankyy unintentionally dealt the final blow to his warrior with his desperate attempt. The player probably wanted to select the Limited Invulnerability Potion, which was positioned right next to the explosive in the bar (which is never a good idea – one saves lives, the other causes self-damage).
“The Worst Level 60 Death So Far”
Why is this so bitter? xHankyy had not only completed the long leveling phase to level 60, but he had also already acquired the first epic gear pieces in preparation for the Molten Core. This included, among other things, the Handguards of the Blade Master, which are among the most expensive, yet strongest items from the WoW Classic era.
On many Classic servers, the Handguards of the Blade Master change hands for a four-digit gold amount. For context: Most players can’t even afford normal riding at level 40, which costs about 100 gold. So behind all the worn handguards lies either a lot of luck (as it is a random world drop) or a long grind.
The equipment is so good because it promises +7 weapon skill for axes, daggers, and swords. This allows the wearer to strike much more frequently with the mentioned weapon types. This benefits especially offensive warriors, in whom the potentially strongest damage dealers of the Classic era lie dormant.
The experienced WoW veteran Sieglinde summarizes the hardcore death as follows: “He blew himself up. You can still see the handguards nicely. And that really hurts. I think that was the worst level 60 death I have seen so far in the project.”
The death clips of the German Twitch scene from WoW Classic Hardcore have also not gone unnoticed by international players. On the contrary, the event has already made its way into the vocabulary of some players: German Twitch event from WoW Classic becomes a global meme: “Are you Sauercrowding us?”
