In a documentary, the director of ‘A Goofy Movie’ mentions that a black dot almost ruined the film. In the end, they had to move the film’s release and redo everything.
In the 1990s, many people knew ‘A Goofy Movie’: It tells the story of Goofy and his son Max, who cause all sorts of chaos and experience many things along the way.
On IMDb, it has a rating of 6.9 out of 10 with over 66,000 reviews, making it not one of the best films released by Disney.
For its 30th anniversary, a new documentary “Not Just a Goof” about the film has now been released on Disney Plus. Here, director Kevin Lima shares that a black dot almost ruined the film. The English-language magazine Kotaku.com reports on this.

What is this black dot? When they looked at the film during production, someone noticed a small black dot that ran through the entire footage. At first, the flaw was not noticeable on small monitors, but when enlarged to cinema size, the error became apparent.
It became frustrating when the staff struggled through the footage only to find that a pixel was missing in every frame of the finished film material. Director Lima explained:
That was so discouraging. We had to go back and reshoot the entire film.
What happened next? They began to redevelop the entire film; this time, however, they checked each shot double and triple to ensure it contained no irregularities. For this reason, the official release of the film was postponed from November 1994 to April 1995.
Nevertheless, Lima explained that it was a relief to miss the first release date. The team was already at the end of their rope and didn’t know how to finish the film at all. The reshoots gave them more breathing room and provided the extra time they needed to make A Goofy Movie
as good as possible. Lima concluded:
That little black dot saved our asses.
