In the “Warcraft” team, alongside Goblin Engineer Junkrat, are the Pandaren Frostmein and the impressive Fire Lord Ragnaros, who would surely storm across the battlefield with a loud “TOO EARLY!”
In the Diablo version, Roadhog stands out as Butcher and Mercy as Angel Auriel, but Reaper manages to be even more of an Edgelord as Malthael than he already is.
Fans of StarCraft get D.Va with the look of a mighty Thor and Soldier: 76 in the typical garb of a Space Marine. That Widowmaker would perfectly pass as a Ghost should be obvious.
A crossover like this with skins is conceivable for several reasons. Firstly, such a “mishmash” already exists in Heroes of the Storm, where characters are often given a completely foreign design (like X as Y or A as B). The second reason is that “Blizzard” actually exists in the world of Overwatch, so it is quite possible that there are still people with memories of iconic figures from the Warcraft universe.
The secret winner, by the way, is Genji – as Leeroy Jenkins. Because who else would “just run in”?
Image source: DeviantArt Wildcard24 Furthermore, it has already been considered at BlizzCon after a fan’s question to think about this skin. So it seems to be only a matter of time before you can actually squeeze into such outfits. It would be amusing if there were soon an ingame event for BlizzCon 2017…

For all beginners in ARK Survival Evolved (PC, PS4, Xbox One), our beginner’s guide contains a few useful tips to survive the first levels.
New survivors get a quick introduction to ARK here to survive the first steps as safely as possible. Danger lurks everywhere, from aggressive dinosaurs and your environment. You also need to provide your character with the basic necessities of life. Otherwise, you might end up starving, thirsting, or freezing to death.
This guide contains tips on
Servers
Starting areas
Food and water
Death and respawning
Leveling
Useful items
Weapons
First base
Taming dinos
Start on a PvE server
On the PvE server (Player vs. Environment), you will first only play against your environment, which is already quite challenging without human opponents. It is recommended to start on a PvE server.
On the PvP server (Player vs Player), you will also encounter other players who may not be friendly and could rob, capture, or kill you. Spend some time on the PvE server and get to know the game and its basics.
Best starting areas in ARK for beginners
Once you log in for the first time, you need to choose a spawn area where you appear almost naked and without tools. There are areas where you would be torn apart right from the start. In the north, there are dangerous creatures like the Sabretooth, deadly birds, and the feared T-Rex.
It is advisable to start on the southern coast. There are slightly less deadly creatures like the small Dodo and the climate is much friendlier. On the east coast, you will find a decent beginner point and can build your first base well in the southeast. Nearby there is enough forest where you can find plenty of resources.
First food and water
In ARK, you need to provide yourself as a survivor with enough food and water. Especially at the beginning, when you don’t have any clothing yet, you will get hungry quite quickly.
Berries are your first food
The beginner in survival against the dinos first feeds on berries. They fill your food bar slower than a cooked piece of meat, but come without claws and teeth. Just walk through the bushes and gather them. Berries also fill your water bar a small amount.
You can find these berries in bushes:
Amarberry (food)
Azulberry (food)
Mejoberry (food)
Tintoberry (food)
Stimberry (dramatically reduces water supply -> thirst risk)
Narcoberry (stuns player and dino, does not fill water supply)
Dodos make a good first source of meat
On the beach, you will find plenty of Dodos that make for excellent first prey. With just a few punches, you can take down the birds and easily harvest some meat.
Drinking in ARK
Getting water is quite simple, just walk to a water source and submerge for a moment or just drink. If you are standing in the rain, your water supply will also fill up again.
Once you can craft water bottles, you will no longer be dependent on finding a water source nearby to quench your thirst.
Avoiding first dangers in ARK
There are several dangers in ARK that can unexpectedly cost you your life right at the beginning. You should avoid these dangers.
Running: By sprinting, you reduce your stamina and increase your food and water consumption. It’s better to walk, don’t sprint.
Carnivores: Carnivores see you as a welcome snack and attack you as soon as they see you. Sneak up on every dino carefully and try to find out whether it is a friendly herbivore or an aggressive carnivore. If you lie down or crouch, the dinos can see you less well, giving you time to observe them at your leisure.
Running away: Running away usually doesn’t help. If a dino is chasing you, try to get to the water and submerge.
Alpha dinosaurs: Alpha dinos are found among Raptors, Carnos, T-Rexes, and Mosas. They are much stronger than their counterparts and can easily take you out at the beginning. They stand out with their reddish color.
Death in ARK is not the end
The likelihood is high that you will die relatively early in the game.
If you die, you lose all your items that you had with you. You can either start with a new character or choose “Respawn”. Upon respawning, you will appear randomly in the region where you died. Within 10 minutes, you can retrieve items from your corpse if you can find it. If your corpse has been eaten, there will be instead of the corpse a small backpack at your death point.
You only lose your items when you die, not your level and learned engrams. Engrams are permanent crafting recipes that help you survive.
A sleeping bag serves as a spawn point after death
Once you reach level 3, you should immediately craft a sleeping bag. If you die, the sleeping bag serves as a one-time spawn point for respawning. The sleeping bag must first be placed. Later, you can build a bed that allows you to respawn infinitely.
To craft, you need Hide and Fiber.
Fast leveling in Ark Survival Evolved for beginners
Play in a tribe for additional experience points.
Kill small dinosaurs: Dodos, Dilos, Meganeura/Titanomyrma, Raptor.
Explore the island: Just walk around, craft small items (especially wood items), gather some berries. You’ll earn experience points and discover ARK while doing so.
These items should be your first crafts
You should definitely not miss the following items at the start of ARK: Survival Evolved.
Pike – It is the most important tool at the beginning
The pike should be your first tool, as it will make your work much easier and is not difficult to craft. With the pike, you can harvest thatch, wood, flintstone, metal, ore, a little meat, and hide. For the pike, you need:
1x Stone
10x Thatch
1x Wood
You can gather stones from the ground, and thatch and wood from your fists by hitting tree trunks.
Simple clothing – Keeps you warm at the start
No one wants to run around in their underwear forever. That doesn’t help anyone survive. With clothing, you can better withstand the changing temperatures in ARK. From level 2, you can craft pants and a shirt, and from level 3, a head covering, shoes, and gloves. Later, there are clothing made from leather.
To craft the first clothing, you need Fiber and Hide.
Learn quickly to make a campfire
You can craft the campfire from level 2, and it has two advantages:
Provides warmth at night when you are freezing.
Serves to cook raw meat. With cooked meat, you can restore health points.
These weapons are useful at the start
The following weapons can already be crafted at a low level. They help you with defense and hunting.
Spear – You need: wood, flint, fiber to craft
Wooden club – To craft you need: wood and fiber (can stun small dinos)
Sling shot – You need: hide, wood, and fiber to craft. (Can stun dinos from a distance)
Building your first base in ARK – Straw hut is for early levels
A straw hut can be built already at level 5. Straw is easy to farm either by collecting it with your fists or a tool from trees. Make sure that enough resources are available near your base, such as wood, straw, stone, and water. Additionally, you want to have enough open space and no carnivores or other players nearby.
Building a straw hut
For the straw hut, you need the following materials:
4x Thatch Floor (foundation)
1x Thatch Doorway (door frame)
1x Thatch Door (door)
4x Thatch Roof (roof)
7x Thatch Walls (walls)
ARK – Taming dinos
Taming dinos is one of the core elements of the survival game. The dinos serve as mounts, gatherers, or guard dogs for your base.
Stunning dinos for taming
To tame a dino, you first need to stun it and ensure that it remains unconscious. You can knock it out with your fists or use weapons. Suitable weapons are:
Fists
Wooden club
Sling shot & stones
Bola to hold
Bows & tranquilizer arrows
Crossbow & tranquilizer arrows
Feeding dinos during taming
Once you have successfully stunned the dino, you need to feed it afterward. The dino must not wake up during taming, or else you will have to start over. Place the desired food and narcotic berries or a crafted narcotic in its inventory.
Different dinos prefer different food. You can effectively tame a carnivore with meat and a herbivore with berries. You need the narcotic berries to keep the dino from waking up.
The time it takes to tame a dino depends on the dino’s level and “taming effectiveness”.
Will the twinking with Patch 7.2 in World of Warcraft be easier with heirlooms? The Community Manager gives a clear answer.
Although Patch 7.2 is still some way off and is not expected to hit the live servers until early summer, players are already actively discussing the content. One point that many players desire is the upgrade of heirlooms – the “leveling gear” that grants additional experience – to level 110. Currently, this armor only scales up to level 100 and loses its effect thereafter.
In the official forum, the user Kwarmerang asked whether “Patch 7.2 will offer the possibility to upgrade heirlooms to level 110?”
The Community Manager Josh “Lore” Allen gave the short and sobering answer: No.
Why the heirlooms are not yet being upgraded to level 110 with Patch 7.2 is not further explained. The reasons for this may be varied, but particularly the world quest system would likely need an overhaul to support “faster” heroes at level 110. Many of the world quests are tied to a certain story progression. Anyone who has never completed the main campaign in Highmountain will not be offered many world quests.
Another criticism is that scaling the heirlooms in the new environment would be detrimental because rewards from quests would always be redundant – however, this was not a major issue at least in Warlords of Draenor.
On the other hand, there are already some easements to level faster from 100 to 110 – signing up for “Random Dungeons” now grants significantly more experience points than at the start of Legion.
Those hoping for a faster level-up will still have to be patient. Perhaps Blizzard will also discard the concept of heirlooms or wants to fundamentally revise it for a rework.
In Destiny we are looking at the videos of the week. It’s going into the Glass Chamber!
What is currently happening in the Glass Chamber? For months and years, hardly any Guardian wanders into the legendary “Year 1” raid, but lately it has been making headlines again.
So it is in this week’s videos. However, there is a little dampener for attentive Mein-MMO readers: We already reported on two of the three videos last week.
Finally, there is another video that takes place in the Glass Chamber. The Templar was taken down in a special way: by his own minions! How the Guardians managed this, you can see here:

The fast-paced arena brawler game Battlerite is getting new updates and heroes in February. With this, the developer is preparing the title for its soon-to-be-launch as a free-to-play game.
Battlerite is an arena brawler, meaning it’s a game with MOBA gameplay but without lanes, jungle, minions, levels, and other frills. What remains is pure action with skill shots and effective use of hero abilities. It’s a ton of fun, but until now only paying customers have been able to play the early access as a buy-to-play game.
Major patches in February
According to the developers’ plans, Battlerite will soon be available as a free-to-play game. An important step towards this goal is two major patches in February. The first update will arrive on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. In addition to the obligatory Valentine’s skins, a new hero is also planned. Furthermore, new titles, mounts, and Season 2 in the ranking system will be introduced.
The second February patch will arrive on February 28, 2017, and will introduce experimental gameplay changes this time. For example, certain skills will be adjusted by modifying their parameters such as casting time or cooldowns. Additionally, melee fighters, who have been slightly neglected until now, will be improved this time. New mounts will finally round off the second patch.
Further patches until the free-to-play release will also feature a new map and legendary skins, among other additions.
In For Honor , a user created an overview of the most popular classes of the beta. These heroes were the ones he encountered the most.
The open beta of For Honor ended on February 12th. Numerous interested fans took a look inside and tested the brutal melee combat.
The Redditor Moctuzuma examined the beta particularly closely: He noted the heroes he encountered from each match played. He wanted to find out which hero classes are the most popular.
Orochi are popular
The user states that he did not count bots or his own party members. If a player was replaced during a match, the hero choice of the new player was noted. This brought him to over 250 heroes across the four game modes.
His result:
The most popular class by far is the Orochi of the samurai.
The second place is shared by Peacekeepers, Berserkers, and Wardens.
The third place goes to the Nobushi.
The most popular fighter type is the assassin style. He illustrates his results in a chart:
Depending on the game mode, the Redditor created individual charts. The Orochi was obviously the most popular hero in all modes.
In the duel, the Wardens were also strongly represented – stronger than in any other mode:
In 2v2, there is a noticeable increase in Nobushi:
In domination mode, Orochi and Peacekeepers dominate. The remaining classes are balanced.
In elimination, alongside Orochi, Peacekeepers, Nobushi, and Wardens, the Kensei are also frequently represented:
However: The validity of this data has its limits. On reddit, this fan work is praised and found interesting, but 250 heroes are not very representative. Furthermore, the distribution in the full version will certainly be different than in the open beta, where players wildly switched characters – also over a longer period of time.
Nonetheless: It is no coincidence that Orochi, Peacekeepers, Wardens, Berserkers, and Nobushi are so strong here. They are also among the best hero classes of the open beta.

Cancel your subscription to make a statement! This does nothing, says one of the leading developers of World of Warcraft and League of Legends.
Many players might still know Greg Street, better known as “Ghostcrawler”. In his early days, he worked on Age of Empires, later he moved to World of Warcraft as Lead Systems Designer. He is now working on League of Legends as Lead Designer, but often talks about Warcraft or the gaming industry in general on his blog. In one of his latest posts, he spoke extensively about why “Canceling your subscription as a protest against design decisions” hardly brings any results.
The question from a user was:
“Canceling the subscription often seems to be the only “right” way for players to express their dissatisfaction in a way that affects the developers. But I have never understood how exactly the developers respond. Do you ramp up your efforts? Do you discard plans? Do you let the game deteriorate?”
We translated some passages from the blog and highlighted the most interesting points:
“Developers are interested in why you stop playing the game and they want to know why you do it. But for games like League of Legends or World of Warcraft, the answer is almost always ‘I have less time to play (job, school, family)’ or ‘My friends no longer play.’ (This is based on the fact that I have seen a lot of data – and is not really open for debate.)”
That people turn away from a game because they dislike a specific design decision (contrary to what is read in forums and Reddit) is actually very rare. I know it happens, but if you were to rank the reasons for quitting, this point would be so far down the list [that it hardly matters]. It is very rare to see ‘Wow, this change cost us 10,000 players. Let’s reverse it!’ Essentially, I would not advocate boycotting a game to make your point clear, especially when you actually love the game. It is very unlikely that this will lead to a change.”
Ghostcrawler still considers the best way to provide criticism and feedback in a constructive form on the forum of the respective game. He knows that this is often frustrating because there is no response for every post and there is never a guarantee that the desired outcome will occur.
In most major games, there are various trends over their lifespan. Sometimes the number of players decreases steadily for months, then it rises again over a quarter.
“And that’s interesting. When many players lose, say, over the course of half a year, this almost always triggers two completely opposite reactions in the development team. One side says ‘Players are getting bored – we need to be bolder and more innovative!’ and the other ‘We are changing so much about the game that we are losing our soul. We need to go back to the basics!'”
There is rarely a clear answer to this issue. It is often a mix of both directions that one must strive for to meet the needs of most (never all).
“In my perception, the players and developers in the ‘We have changed too much’ camp are usually those who currently spend less time with the game than they did in the past. Losing touch with changes usually happens to players who used to play every day and now only play once a week or even once a month. They remember when they used to know everything that was going on in the game. The fact that this is no longer the case saddens them and alienates them from the game. On the other hand, players who spend a lot of time in the game likely need something new and fresh so they still have things to do in the game.”
You can find the complete blog in the original English as usual in our sources.
Cortyn says: It will never be possible to make all players happy, but it is quite fascinating to see it all from the perspective of a developer who has worked on some of the biggest game titles ever. Personally, I find all the “When X comes, I will cancel” screamers quite annoying, just like the “The game is dead if you do Y” people. In most cases, the majority of players end up being satisfied, and if you are not – then you probably just don’t belong to the majority.
In For Honor , players discovered a funny Easter egg during the beta: A scene from Mortal Kombat 2 was reenacted.
Now to a curious find: Redditor Lacront discovered a questionable scene in For Honor that fans of Mortal Kombat might recognize. He immediately took a screenshot of it:
In the back corner of the map, there are apparently two people on a bridge: The figure on the right is on fire, while the figure on the left stands in a fighting stance opposite. For those who don’t recognize this scene: It is a reference to the stage The Pit from Mortal Kombat 2, where things get intense on a bridge. Apparently, a developer wanted to evoke some nostalgia.
Here is a comparison image:
The fiery guy is called Blaze, while the other is referred to as Hornbuckle by fans. Whatever these two are doing in For Honor – it’s definitely a nice Easter egg.
For Honor can be purchased in four different versions: There is the Standard Edition, the Gold Edition, the Deluxe Edition, and the Collector’s Edition.
From February 14th, Ubisoft’s melee game For Honor will officially be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. But which edition should you buy? The Standard version costs about 60 (PC) to 70 Euros (PS4, Xbox One) and includes only the main game.
The remaining editions are more expensive and come with additional content and exclusive in-game items. Benefits that affect gameplay cannot be purchased.

Niantic confirms that both the trading feature and PvP battles (Trainer vs. Trainer) are already on the way to Pokémon GO .
The content issues of Pokémon GO have been a major topic in recent days and weeks. For months, there were no significant changes in the augmented reality hit. John Hanke, CEO of Niantic, recently announced in an interview that there will be big innovations in the game shortly. Features that fans have been demanding for months are already on the way, and it’s only a matter of time before they are released. Get ready for battles against other trainers and the trading of Pokémon.
Trading feature and Trainer battles (PvP) on the way
In an interview with Vice, John Hanke recently spoke about Pokémon GO and the game’s future plans. The technical issues shortly after the release diverted attention from the planned features. Bug fixes and other important patches took precedence. Some features that Niantic considers essential were postponed due to these problems. However, they are still on the future plan of the app.
These features include trading Pokémon and Trainer vs. Trainer battles. Those who played Pokémon on the Game Boy may remember how they previously transferred monsters from one Game Boy to another using the Link Cable. Battling against friends was also possible this way. It’s only natural that players want such features in a modern Pokémon version.
According to John Hanke, these two features are already “on the way” and are expected to be available for players soon. If there hadn’t been so many issues at the launch of the app, today one of these planned features would already be available. Just like the arena battle system, which currently does not meet Niantic’s expectations for these battles. Improvements are likely to come in the future.
The developments of these features will be completed soon, says Hanke. The frenzy that the game caused meant that these features are being integrated into the game with delays. Hanke did not provide an exact date, but this is a long-awaited official statement regarding these features, which gives hope. Soon you will be able to duel against other trainers in the PvP mode in the game and send your strongest Pokémon into battle.
With the trading feature, you can complete your collection, even if you have no luck with wild Pokémon and only catch the same ones.
When is the release time of For Honor on PS4, Xbox One, and PC? At this time, the server will launch.
On February 14, 2017, For Honor will be released. To play, a permanent internet connection is required – even for the campaign. However, the servers are currently not accessible. This means that even those who already have a copy of For Honor in hand must wait until the release. Therefore, many fans are asking: What time can the matches begin? When does the server launch?
The official launch time is at 12am on February 14th. So it will start exactly at midnight. However, a tweet from Ubisoft Australia suggests that the servers will be available a few hours earlier.

Is the launch date of For Honor already on February 13?
Accordingly, the melee game will be available at 7am AEST. For us, that means at 9pm this Monday, February 13th. So, it is likely that you can already play For Honor tonight.
However, this time only applies to PS4, Xbox One, and PC if you already have the disc. The servers will be open from 9pm.
If you want to buy the game via the PS4 or Xbox One store, it will be available from 12:01am. The same applies to PC players via Uplay. Steam users will have to wait until 6am in the morning.
Will Bastion be a new tank in Overwatch? Thanks to the changes, he survives almost any situation with ease.
Currently, some changes to the Omnic hero Bastion are being tested on the Overwatch test server. He takes 35% less damage in his sentry form and can now heal while taking damage or moving.
On Reddit, the user Squidblimp shared his experiences with Bastion and published a very detailed list of what Bastion can now survive if he simply heals against it.
The list of things that Bastion can survive through self-healing in sentry mode includes the following situations:
The full ultimate of Reaper
All 8 shots from Reaper’s shotgun
Pharah’s entire magazine
Torbjörn’s turret at level 2 (he can endlessly heal against it)
Torbjörn’s turret at level 3 (he can heal against it until the healing runs out and then easily destroy the turret)
Symmetra’s laser deals no damage until the healing runs out
Genji’s entire ultimate
Soldier’s entire magazine + rockets
Tracer’s bullets (until the healing runs out)
Tracer’s ultimate
Zarya’s entire magazine with 100 energy
Junkrat’s entire magazine
Of course, these situations usually assume a “1 against 1” conflict, which is relatively rare in actual gameplay. In the future – when the changes go live in this form – significantly more effort will be needed from the team to take down an agile Bastion. It’s also important to remember that Bastion’s damage has been appropriately reduced.
The main problem here is the combination of armor and healing. Because armor (yellow health bar) works differently than regular HP. It reduces any damage taken by half, up to a maximum of 5 damage points per bullet/source.
What has happened in the world of MMOs in the last week? In our “My MMO Video News,” you’ll get an overview.
Refaser presents the key MMO news of the past week in the video. There are new leaks and information about TESO: Morrowind, Final Fantasy 14 was weaker in revenue in 2016 compared to 2015, Revelation Online will allow name reservations starting February 14, rumors about The Division 2 are emerging, and the rumors of a PC version of Destiny 2 are intensifying.
Here you will find timestamps and links to the reports for further reading:
In The Division the movie is taking shape. According to Ubisoft, it is “on a good path.”
Ubisoft provided an update on the upcoming “The Division” movie: During the last financial report, CEO Yves Guillemot stated that the film adaptation is on a good path. However, he emphasized that fans shouldn’t expect it too soon. Before the film shines on the big screens, several hurdles need to be overcome. Development is still in the early stages.
One hurdle is to find a suitable Hollywood studio first. Regarding a studio partner, Guillemot said that many people are interested in this film. However, he did not name any names.
In Destiny, many Guardians are calling for a revision of the artifact “Skorris Memory.” Why is that?
Just about a week ago, Bungie’s live stream for update 2.5.0.2. This balance patch will adjust some weapons and focuses and bring changes that are currently not known. During the Twitch stream, however, the user chat was not only about weapons and Guardian classes: It repeatedly read: “Nerf Skorri”, “Fix Skorri”. Why is that?
By “Skorri,” the “Iron Lord” artifact Skorris Memory is meant. It has the ability: When your Super is full, the Super attacks of nearby allies charge faster.
Skorris Memory breaks Osiris
If you play Destiny solo, Skorris Memory brings you little. However, if you play in a group, it is excellent in PvE as well as PvP, as you can trigger your Supers more often, thereby gaining important advantages. If you also use equipment that buffs the Supers, you have an excellent artifact.
Especially the Trials of Osiris prove to be a game mode in which Skorri shines. The members of a fireteam are usually close to each other to avoid opening weaknesses. Many Trials players therefore camp with Skorris Memory, collect their Supers, and use them when the opponent approaches.
In the Trials, you can be sure that one of the opposing Guardians wears this artifact. On reddit, a Guardian compares the status of Skorri to that of the Gjallarhorn from year 1: The Gjallarhorn used to be essential in every situation, now it is Skorris Memory – at least in the Trials. Those who do not have it equipped are at a disadvantage.
Artifacts are being examined
Shortly after the launch of “Rise of Iron”, the strong advantages of Skorri were discovered. Already in October, some users wrote: Skorris Memory will surely be nerfed soon!
However, the months passed and no balance adjustments came. The weapon balancing also took forever to arrive. Only about 5 months later will it be released on February 14. But Skorries Memory remains unaffected. Update 2.5.0.2 brings no new changes here.
However, the community manager DeeJ indicated: The next content update will also address the sandbox. He revealed that this update may have an artifact patch in tow. It is expected to be released in spring. We will see if Skorri will be weakened then.
Battleforge was one of the first representatives of online collectible card games, but the concept did not really take off at the time of its release in 2009. In late 2013, the game was discontinued by publisher Electronic Arts.
However, fans have been working for some time on a revival of the game. Battleforge Reborn was already well advanced last summer. A beta was just around the corner. But then it became silent again around the game.
Now the developers have returned and announced that they will release the game under the name Skylords Reborn. After negotiations with Electronic Arts, the company agreed to allow the developers to publish the game – however, not with the original name.
Developers are allowed to earn money
Additionally, EA made some further demands. While the team is allowed to develop new content, all DLCs must be free. Nevertheless, EA wants to allow the developers to earn some money with the game. After all, operating the servers, providing services, and developing new content will cost money.
However, the team has not yet disclosed how exactly this monetization will look. One way will be donations.
New content is planned
With this deal, it is now possible to operate the project beyond the original goal. This goal was only to restore Battleforge to the state it was in before the servers were shut down. Now the team can even develop additional content. The developers also promise that they will never turn the game into a pay-to-win or pay-to-play product.
The team intends to announce soon when a release of Skylords Reborn can be expected.

The release of the 2nd generation in Pokémon GO may include the changes that many trainers have been waiting for for months.
Pokémon GO is an augmented reality game that was released in summer 2016 and has captivated many trainers around the world since then. In the meantime, the number of players has significantly decreased, as the initial hype has faded. Reasons for the declining player numbers include missing mechanics such as a trading feature that would enhance the game.
New hopes for trainers arose during the Christmas season when Niantic introduced the baby Pokémon of the 2nd generation into the game. Since then, players have been waiting for more new monsters to find their way into Pokémon GO.
The hype of Pokémon GO caught the developers by surprise, especially in the first weeks and months. There were constant server issues that prevented smooth gameplay. Instead of enjoying exciting Pokémon adventures, there was frustration and smartphone restarts galore. As a result, Niantic had to push forward and improve the game in many areas. Such improvements take time and resources and can disrupt the game’s original plans.
After such significant problems, it takes time to recover. In recent months, players have not seen any “big” changes, but rather small improvements: the activation of the buddy Pokémon, daily rewards, and baby Pokémon of the 2nd generation. Niantic has been working to develop the platform for something big.
Pokémon GO has been tidied up
Dataminers have closely monitored and analyzed changes in the APK versions of Pokémon GO in recent months. In addition to the obvious changes, it was noticed during the analysis that the code has been reduced to its essentials. This means that redundant code has been removed and there are fewer factors for potential errors in the game.
Niantic’s server structure has been massively improved, positively impacting the game’s performance and reliability. The game uses less bandwidth and still achieves a better connection with lower latency. While many improvements may not be immediately visible, they are nonetheless active in the background and change the game. However, it takes time to rebuild a game that initially faced so many technical problems.
The release of the 2nd Gen could change a lot in the game
If Niantic announces the release of the 2nd generation in Pokémon GO, the game will change significantly. Because if 100 new Pokémon are unlocked in the game, the developers will likely not only celebrate this with a double XP weekend but also have reason for a big event. There is a possibility of unlocking many additional features and functions in the game that have already been discovered by dataminers in the code.
These could also be unlocked alongside the many new Pokémon.
While there are currently no direct hints regarding the trading feature requested by fans, the aforementioned features will also significantly change the game. For Niantic, these are not small changes. Incorporating 100 new Pokémon into the game, adjusting their rarity, and defining their strengths are steps that should be well thought out and prepared. Through the continuous improvement of Pokémon GO and its servers, a foundation has been laid for such significant changes.
Whether Niantic plans to implement the release of the 2nd generation in this way can currently only be speculated. When Nintendo introduced Pokémon Gold and Silver, there were many more changes in the games alongside the 100 new monsters. These included shiny Pokémon, genders, and new Poké Balls.
