With the next patch of Fallout 76, an area underground in Appalachia will become accessible. A new “Out of the Vault” from Bethesda gives a small insight. Apparently, there is a kind of town awaiting you there.
What kind of town is it? With the latest “Out of the Vault”, Bethesda has introduced the upcoming underground dungeon “The Caves”. “The Caves” are a branching dungeon just below Harper’s Ferry.
Originally, the cave system was created for the drainage of Harpers Ferry. However, after the war broke out, people sought refuge down there from the new dangers created by the bombs.
From the drainage system emerged a “welcoming community”. Before the opening of Vault 76, some members of the Steel Brotherhood were sent into the caves because strange signals were coming from there.
The members did not return, and now dangers are suspected down there. It almost sounds like “The Caves” are a kind of Underworld (Fallout 3), where ghouls dwell. Only that the ghouls are no longer very welcoming.
What will I find in the town? There are no specific statements yet about what you can find in the caves. However, it is said that there should be “plenty of loot” to gather.
“The Caves” are designed for players level 50 and up and are said to be so dangerous that at least two players should tackle them together. However, Bethesda indicated that well-equipped players can also master the co-op dungeon alone.
How to enter the dungeon: According to the report, there are two entrances to the new dungeon:
- a manhole cover near the armory
- a manhole cover at Highway 65
When you enter the dungeon, you will receive the quest “Waste Disposal”. While this can only be completed once, the dungeon itself is repeatable.
“The Caves” are to be made accessible with the patch on April 16, 2019.
This is what fans say about the dungeon: So far, there have been few reactions to the caves. However, players are very positive that the dungeon is suitable for both co-op gameplay and solo players:

Raids for four players will come in the future in the form of various vaults that can be tackled by player groups. Challenges for even more players are offered by events like the new boss, the Sheepsquatch. This approach is generally well received.
However, players are talking more in the corresponding reddit thread about the upcoming in-game camera. This is supposed to come as a modifiable item, as a kind of “weapon” to enable instant snapshots.
