There, players can also obtain good gear if they haven’t played for a while. This “Catch-Up Gear” has some special features.
The equipment items are called “Benthic” and are equivalent to the equipment tokens that were available on the Timeless Isle or in Tanaan.
How to get the equipment? The tokens for the equipment can be found in Nazjatar in different ways. They can either be found in treasures or from world quests, or they can be directly purchased from a vendor. This costs “Prismatic Manapearls” – a new currency that only exists in Nazjatar.
Less RNG thanks to fixed stats: If you don’t like randomness, you’ll likely be satisfied with the “Benthic” equipment. This gear has predefined stats and always the same secondary attributes. So you don’t have to buy the same item three times and hope that the right stats will come out. The result is already determined in advance.
Upgrading the items with Prismatic Manapearls: As in previous patches, it is possible to upgrade the items gradually. They start at item level 385 and can be upgraded to a maximum of item level 430. However, this increasingly costs more Prismatic Manapearls. So, if you want to upgrade all items this way, you will spend a lot of time in Nazjatar, kill some rare mobs, and complete most world quests.
Interesting passive bonuses in all slots: Another cool feature of the Benthic equipment is that it has interesting bonuses and small perks that cannot be found on other gear. Some of them are useful in combat, others more for exploring the area. Here are a few examples:
Shadow resistance: Shadow damage taken is reduced by 2% in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace.
Damage to aberrations: You deal more damage against “Aberration” type enemies in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace. This includes the raid boss Orgozoa or the world boss Ulmath.
Merchant’s supply: You have access to special supplies from Murloc vendors.
Fishy friends: When looting creatures in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace, there is a chance to receive a random fish.
Such and other bonuses can only be found on gear with the “Benthic” modifier.
What do you think of the system with fixed stats? Is it a better solution to allow everyone to work towards exactly what they want? Or should it be random, as it was on the Timeless Isle or in Tanaan’s Jungle?
Currently, things are a bit quiet in The Division 2. Many are thirsty for new content. This is also expected with Title Update 3. Here are 3 new features that our author Tarek is looking forward to the most.
Title Update 3 brings changes in nearly all areas of The Division 2 and is eagerly awaited by players.
Many want to finally get started again, optimize their builds, and try out the new features. There will be both new content and many adjustments to the balance.
I’ll show you which of the 3 new features I am looking forward to the most.
I can’t wait to dive into the raid
Raids have always been a topic in The Division. But larger-scale raid activities, like in MMORPGs, have been absent. I was all the more excited when “real” raids for The Division 2 were announced.
I personally hope that the raid will indeed be as challenging as the developers have announced. At the same time, I wish that it doesn’t go the same way as during the incursion “Falcon Lost” in The Division 1.
Here, the difficulty was artificially increased by bullet sponge enemies and rushers (NPCs with shotguns). However, it doesn’t seem to be the case this time:
Building builds has been unmotivating lately. Those following the news regarding The Division 2 already know many of the upcoming changes.
PC players can even test these on the PTS (Public Test Server) and share their feedback.
So, not only do you have a good idea of the changes, but you also know exactly what’s coming. So why grind to the limit if better items are coming soon?
There are several factors that influence your gear.
With the new update, players can finally focus on building their builds again, knowing that at least until the next update, no major changes are expected.
Changes to recalibration are a step in the right direction
A change that may seem insignificant to some is, for me, a first step towards a fair loot system. With the update, values can now be transferred one-to-one from one piece to another.
Currently, values drop lower after recalibration than they were before. This can occasionally be frustrating. Additionally, recalibration is relatively expensive and consumes a lot of materials.
The change represents an unnecessary limitation in an already quite complex equipment system that has 3 different talent categories and includes several attribute rolls per piece.
However, this is just the first step, as I believe there is still much to improve:
Talents and attributes should be evaluated separately during recalibration. This means: One should be allowed to roll both a talent and an attribute.
Furthermore, I would like to be able to replace attributes of different categories as well. I would like the freedom to replace skill power with weapon damage if that’s necessary for a build.
I am curious to see what else happens on the PTS and whether the update undergoes even larger changes.
After all, one must keep in mind: A lot can still change. However, I strongly doubt that the raid will suddenly be canceled.
Moreover, the change to recalibration has been received positively by the community.
What do you think of the new update? Are there any features you are particularly looking forward to?
A fan kept a journal for 76 days about how he played Fallout 76 . He then sent it to the headquarters of Bethesda. In response, he received a whole package of great stuff.
What kind of journal is this? The reddit user Shia_Drunkfu came up with a small project shortly after the release of Fallout 76. Shia kept a journal about the experiences of two characters in Appalachia: Shia and Turtle.
He (or she) wrote down everything that the two experienced and adorned it with self-drawn pictures for each day. The journal was kept for a total of 76 days.
In the end, it resulted in a proper, bound version as a notebook with a cover, many pages, and original drawings. Shia published many of these pages in a short photo series on imgur.
What rewards were there? Shia eventually sent this small project to Bethesda. After some waiting time, on the night of May 3rd to 4th our time, Shia received a package. Inside were:
a Fallout coffee mug
a Aggressotron as a Funko-POP figure
a “Sheepsquatch Ate My Brother” poster with signatures from the employees
a Nuka-Cola Quantum bottle
The “Sheepsquatch” poster corresponds to the posters needed to start the new Sheepsquatch quest line in the game. However, it is highly limited and according to Bethesda, Shia is the first person outside of Bethesda to possess such a poster.
How are other fans reacting? Other fans and reddit users are excited with Shia. They find both the action with the journal itself and Bethesda’s reaction very good. There are congratulations and also a bit of envy over the poster, which many other fans seem to want as well.
Users particularly highlight that they appreciate the actions the Fallout 76 community is putting together. It is nice to see how players take such good care of each other and stand up for something.
The journal itself is also often a subject of discussion. It seems to be received so well that several players and Fallout fans want a copy of it themselves. Shia has already confirmed that the journal is available from a print-on-demand service. It currently costs €26.35.
What do you think of the journal and Bethesda’s reaction?

In recent months, Epic has drawn the ire of many gamers with exclusive deals for their store. In response, fans have bombarded the games with poor reviews. Has it made a difference?
Why are players angry at Epic? After announcing their own online store for games, Epic set out to fill it with titles.
In doing so, they managed to snag some highly sought-after games as exclusive or time-exclusive for their store. With these games, Epic aims to compete with the current market giant, Steam. Among the games that will not appear on Steam for the time being are:
Borderlands 3 is just one of many time-exclusive titles in the Epic Store
This, along with the store’s weak security measures, has caused a great deal of upheaval among PC gamers and often led to full-blown shitstorms.
How are players fighting back against Epic? To express their frustration, many players have started bombarding the relevant games with poor reviews.
However, since the Epic Store does not offer a review option, this occurred on other platforms such as Steam or Metacritic. The initial targets of the bombing were the Metro series games: Metro 2033 and Last Light received 600 to 700 negative reviews each within a few days.
Although the developers assured that Rocket League will continue to be supported by Steam, they were inundated with poor reviews. After the release in the Epic Store, however, the sale of Rocket League on Steam will be halted.
How are developers responding? The head of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, responded on Twitter to the shitstorm caused by the exclusive deal for Borderlands 3.
Pitchford stated that the review bombing on Steam somewhat confirmed his opinions, and he believes that switching to Epic was a good idea.
In the case of Borderlands 3, the decision for the deal probably did not rest with the developer Gearbox, but with the publisher 2K Games, as Pitchford explained on Twitter. This would mean that the wrong people were targeted.
Ironically, that this misuse is possible and that Steam has no interest in correcting this misuse makes me kind of happy about 2k’s decision and makes me want to reconsider Gearbox Publishing’s current posture on the platform.
Epic’s CEO, Tim Sweeney, has also addressed the criticism of their exclusives. In a tweet, he stated that Epic would immediately stop making exclusive deals as soon as Steam lowers the revenue share from game sales to 12%. It is currently at 30%.
He also stated that short-term deals like those for Metro Exodus will never be made again, as they are extremely frustrating for the players.
Has the review bombing made a difference? The strategy of review bombing seems to have yielded little for the angry players. The developers and publishers who decided to switch to Epic have not changed their opinions so far because of this.
Even with Metro: Exodus, the protests and calls for a boycott had little success. The game achieved double the number of sales at launch in the Epic Store compared to its predecessors on Steam. So it has not significantly harmed the title.
In response to these bombing actions, Steam introduced a new filter to counteract the sharp increase in negative reviews.
This graph shows the sharp increase in negative reviews for Borderlands 2 on Steam
On a special graph, players can now see when a review bombing occurred and how it affected the game’s rating. This allows them to form their own opinion about the situation.
There will surely be more shitstorms and review bombings in the future that will follow as responses to Epic’s exclusive deals. However, their actual impact and the likelihood of changing anything are questionable.
A new action RPG is now available on Steam: Last Epoch. This indie project combines many features from well-known representatives of the genre like Diablo 2 and Path of Exile and is now playable in Early Access.
What is Last Epoch? Last Epoch is a classic hack & slash game that draws inspiration from some well-known predecessors of the genre. After six months of development, it has been available in Early Access on Steam since April 30th.
What Last Epoch borrows from Diablo 2: Many designs of classes and skills strongly resemble the classes already present in Diablo 2. The Primalist is similar to the Druid, while the Acolyte resembles the Necromancer.
The skills and skill tree also have some aspects of Blizzard’s ARPG classic. You continuously develop spells in the talent tree, occasionally learn new abilities for the specialization, and enhance what you already have.
The Necromancer looks almost like he is from Diablo. Image Source: PCGamer.
What Last Epoch borrows from PoE: What is reminiscent of Path of Exile is the depth that classes and items provide. The spells and abilities in Last Epoch are connected in large trees, which are, however, more organized than in PoE.
The crafting and equipment system also resembles that of PoE to some extent. In Last Epoch, you gather resources and use them to improve your items. You can enchant items that are not unique to a certain extent and thereby strengthen them.
What makes Last Epoch unique: What sets Last Epoch apart from other ARPGs is the way the classes function. You can choose one of five starter classes, each of which receives three specializations for further development.
In total, there are 15 specializations available, each with its own unique skills. Each of these specializations is supposed to differ from the others.
The class wheel of Last Epoch
Is there a multiplayer? Yes. Up to five players can play together in a group. However, the feature is still limited at the moment and is set to be implemented later. Online and offline characters will be separated.
Are there microtransactions? Yes, Last Epoch plans to offer skins for weapons and armor, pets, and alternate visual spell effects in a cash shop.
Where can I buy Last Epoch? Currently, you can get Last Epoch for €29.99 on Steam. The price is set to fall to $10-$15 before and at release. A free demo up to level 20 is also planned. More information about the game can be found on the official Last Epoch website.
Interested in ARPGs? Currently, another new release is also attracting attention:
On April 22nd, Pokémon GO mobilized 17,000 players worldwide, who, together with regional organizations and communities, cleaned up 145 tons of garbage. How did this come about?
That’s why thousands gathered to clean up: The reason for this gigantic event was Earth Day 2019, which took place on April 22nd.
Worldwide, all Pokémon GO players were encouraged to go out and collect litter.
Developer Niantic worked together with organizations and communities worldwide for this day. Now, Niantic has published the results of the actions.
How Pokémon GO got 17,000 players to clean up the world
What is Earth Day? Earth Day is a day organized by Earth Day International German Committee e.V. along with other organizations such as the U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt.
According to the program on the official site, the motto of Earth Day 2019 is diversity and species protection.
Pokémon GO, in collaboration with the organization Playmob, called on all players worldwide to go out and collect litter. The litter was then collected by local organizations and communities.
These were the locations where Pokémon GO players participated in the actions. Source: Niantic website
These are the results of the actions:
176 NGOs and 300 player-organized events were involved
These are spread across 41 countries and 6 continents
17,000 players were active for a total of 41,000 hours
145 tons of garbage were collected
It’s hard to say how many tons were collected by the players alone, as they cleaned up together with all participants.

The event ran from May 13th to April 28th, significantly longer than Earth Day. To participate, one must register and join the clean-up operation. Such an initiative also took place for Earth Day 2018.
The more players that participated, the more bonuses were unlocked by the community during the events.
At one point, it looked like the new raid was in danger. Because 7,000 players needed to participate for it. In the end, this goal was also significantly exceeded.
Developer praises the players’ commitment
Niantic itself says about the figures: “Players worked together in groups of 1-2500, along with government officials, non-profit organizations, and community members, and made an incredible contribution.”
According to the developer, the initiative brought thousands of players worldwide together with other people. For example, in Taiwan, a group of players educated several children about environmental protection.
By 2019, dozens of MMORPGs are already on the market and many more are currently in development or are set to be released. This often raises the question: Which one should I play? One of the older, more developed ones or one of the new ones? MeinMMO attempts to answer this question and invites you to participate in the survey.
[toc]
What is this overview for? Due to the increasing number of MMORPGs on the market, it is often difficult for fans of the genre to decide which one to play. There is a lot of choice and new MMORPGs are constantly appearing, although the trend is moving in a different direction.
Moreover, even new releases with expensive production do not always succeed. Big names are therefore not a clear indication of the quality of a game. Instead of opting for a new game, it might be worth choosing an old MMORPG, even as a newcomer.
With this article, we aim to help interested players decide which MMORPGs might be suitable for them. We do not focus directly on players, but rather want to make the general direction clearer: New, fresh MMORPG or an established successful title?
The old MMORPGs
Which ones are there? MMORPGs have been around for many years. Accordingly, the number of games that are still played despite their age is significant. Among the largest and most popular titles are:
they usually have more content than new releases, as a lot has been added over the years
Bugs and errors have been minimized through constant work
they have been around for a long time, so they will likely continue to exist for a while
fundamental changes are unlikely to occur. Most will remain as they are, and players can get used to it
there are already many opinions about the games that can guide players
These are the disadvantages of old MMORPGs
the worlds offer a lot to discover for newcomers, but due to their long existence, much is already known through news or reporting
no innovative, new gameplay or mechanics, as the games have been around for so long
without some form of catch-up mechanic, it will be difficult to enjoy the endgame or play with more experienced friends
Games like WoW offer level boosts to catch up – but only for money
Conclusion: Old MMORPGs may be best suited for complete newcomers to the genre who have little or no experience with MMORPGs but want to take a look at them. They will find fully developed games that do not deter due to an excessive number of bugs.
Additionally, they are offered large worlds to explore and discover with naive eyes. Players who grew up with MMORPGs like WoW Classic may often know many stories and worlds, making them “blind to the wonders” that the environment has to offer.
Those who have played WoW since Classic may overlook many things in the world
New and Upcoming MMORPGs
Which ones are there? Although the MMORPG genre seems to have little room for growth and is at best stagnating, there are still notable titles in development. These include:
the opportunity to help shape the future of the game through feedback with the developers
everyone starts anew, there are no “pros” yet
These are the disadvantages of new MMORPGs
servers are often overcrowded at the beginning before a player base settles in
hardly any MMORPG release goes without major bugs and errors that take some time to fix
the future is uncertain. If not enough players are interested in the MMORPG, it may be shut down
Ashes of Creation offers a unique feature with its “Nodes”
Conclusion: MMORPG releases may be better playgrounds for veterans of the genre. They can already estimate whether they like what they see and decide if they want to play the MMORPG long-term.
Camelot Unchained is still being developed, with the help of the community
Important Points: Community and Economy
Two points that should be addressed separately are the communities and the economy of new and old MMORPGs. Both are important for enjoyment and long-term motivation but may not be immediately visible at first glance.
The community in old MMORPGs is usually well-established. Players know each other and the game. As a newcomer, it can be difficult to find connections – but there are definitely players available. In new MMORPGs, communities have to find each other first, making new acquaintances potentially easier to forge.
The economy in games, meaning the availability of items and currency, is often player-driven. In new MMORPGs, you have the opportunity to get involved and help develop the economy.
You can create economic foundations for the course of the game. In old MMORPGs, you often need some form of “kickstart” since you may lack gold or silver to participate.
Economy is important for many players and games
Now it’s your turn: Play immediately or wait?
Now it’s your turn. Do you prefer to play MMORPGs right at release? Do you wait a few months until the bugs are fixed and development is foreseeable? Or do you even wait until new content has been added?
Comment below how you voted and what your reasons are.
On May 4th, it was Star Wars Day (May the 4th) and around the world, the universe of Star Wars was celebrated. In For Honor there were even lightsaber duels, much to the delight of the fans.
This is what happened on Star Wars Day: To celebrate Star Wars with the fans, For Honor quickly brought lightsaber duels into the game.
The event was very well received by fans and led to some memes and cool moments.
How long did the event last? Unfortunately, it has already ended. It was probably only active on May 4th. There was a bit of confusion about this because the event was never really announced and no times were given.
This is how the event went: In each fight, players’ weapons get a lightsaber look. Depending on which fighter you play, you also have dual weapons and short lightsabers.
There are blue, red, or green as colors, which are the most typical lightsaber colors.
But that’s not all. The typical sound effects were also added. So, in For Honor, it was possible to host real lightsaber duels.
How cool the event is can be seen in this video by Mc Chubbz:
This is how the community reacts: The fans are very positive about the event. Many celebrate For Honor as the best lightsaber game currently on the market.
Many now wish that Disney, the owner of the Star Wars rights, would grant a license to Ubisoft. They should develop a Star Wars game in the style of For Honor.
Some fans hoped that the lightsabers would have stayed in the game a bit longer. For many, they could even be integrated as a permanent option in the game.
This is what Grimm_Reapah writes on Reddit: “Honestly, I would play this game all the time if it stayed in forever. There are really no good lightsaber games, except maybe Movie Battles 2.”
On Reddit, there are now tons of reports from players reenacting famous lightsaber duels from the movies. This funny image was also created:
In this, a famous dialogue from the duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker from Episode 3 is reenacted:
The mechanics of the NPCs have been extensively revised for Borderlands 3. They differ significantly from the NPCs in Borderlands 2. Why this is the case was explained by developer Matt Cox in an interview with our author Leya.
What role do NPCs play? In Borderlands 3, there are different types of NPCs. There are characters from whom you receive missions or with whom you can only have dialogues. They often drive the story forward. Likewise, there are of course enemies in Borderlands 3 that you fight against.
Then there are the so-called Combat NPCs. These can also provide you with missions, but can additionally accompany you on certain missions. They fight by your side.
The assassin Zero is one of the playable characters from Borderlands 2 and is now returning as a Combat NPC in the third installment.
NPCs have been specially adapted for single-player
This is why NPCs are now so important: The Combat NPCs have been adapted for Borderlands 3 so that they can revive you in combat. They are now also stronger in battles. The NPCs have been equipped with more useful skills and weapons.
Why were the NPCs adapted? Borderlands is designed for a coop experience among friends. However, it also has an exciting and gripping story.
There are players who prefer to play the story campaign alone as a single-player. With this thought in mind, the Combat NPCs were accordingly adapted.
Where does this information come from? On May 1, Gearbox invited various media representatives to Los Angeles to try out Borderlands 3 for the first time. We from MeinMMO were also invited. On site, I spoke with Matt Cox, the Lead Boss Designer of Borderlands 3. He is simultaneously responsible for all NPCs in Borderlands 3. Matt explained why he introduced this new feature:
Reviving by NPCs is one of the features that I introduced relatively early. I didn’t expect it to become as big as it is now. If you die, Lorelei can revive you, and if Lorelei dies, you can do the same.
I always play alone when I first play the story campaign. I wanted people who play alone not to feel alone. That’s why we gave Combat NPCs more abilities now. When Lorelei or Zero fight by your side, you are not alone.
Matt Cox, Lead Boss Designer of Borderlands 3
Borderlands 3 is now more enjoyable to play alone
In recent weeks, I have played a lot of Borderlands 2 again. I was mostly out on my own, which is much less fun for me than in coop. When the synergies of the different character classes come together in Borderlands, it brings me the most joy.
Lorelei is a new NPC in Borderlands 3 and can accompany us on missions.
This is my impression of the adjustment of the NPCs: While we were trying out Borderlands 3, it was only possible to play in single-player. Right from the start, I noticed that I enjoyed Borderlands 3 alone much more than I had previously with the second installment.
Why that was the case became clear to me only after the conversation with developer Matt Cox. The fact that NPCs can now revive you makes a huge difference to the solo gameplay experience. Additionally, NPCs and your own character now act “smarter” towards each other. This is part of the 7 changes that make Borderlands 3 directly better than its predecessors.
Whether Mordecai, Brick, and Tiny Tina are among the NPCs that accompany us in combat is still uncertain. But they are back.
Do the adjustments affect coop? How useful this new feature will be in coop play remains to be seen. But I can also imagine that the revised Combat NPCs are a pleasant addition and simply an extra buddy.
In Destiny 2, there is an emblem that only 5 players worldwide have: “After the Nightfall.” Now Guardians have discovered how to obtain the emblem. You must complete the 14 Nightfall Strikes in Destiny 2: Each Strike must be mastered within an individual time limit.
What makes the emblem special: For months, no one knew how to obtain the emblem “After the Nightfall” in Destiny 2. Only 5 players worldwide possessed the emblem, and even they didn’t know how they had obtained it.
There was much speculation and experimentation.
A few days ago, Guardians came together at “Raidsecrets” to figure out how to obtain the emblem.
They have since found out.
The player Hoon is one of the few Guardians who possess the emblem. Source: Imgur
This was the secret: For each Nightfall Strike in Destiny 2, there apparently exists a secret timer that runs alongside and must be beaten.
Each of the 14 Nightfall Strikes has its own time limit that players must meet to obtain the emblem.
The exact time limits are not yet fully clear, but players have found approximate values.
How to obtain the emblem: To get the emblem, it is necessary to complete the 14 different Nightfalls in Destiny 2 under their individual time limits.
In a table on Imgur , you can see the “slowest time” known to still be fast enough for the time trial to be considered “passed.” We have documented the table and added the English names of the strikes.
Garden – 0:10:05 – “A Garden World” on Mercury
Exodus – 0:10:10 – “Exodus Crash” on Nessus
Lake – 0:06:07 – “Lake of Shadows” on Earth
Savathun – 0:12:31 – “Savathun’s Song” on Titan
Strange – 0:07:26 – “Strange Terrain” on Mars
Arms – 0:07:59 – “The Arms Dealer” on Earth
Inverted – 0:09:47 – “The Inverted Spire” on Nessus
Pyramidion – 0:11:46 – “The Pyramidion” on IO
Tree – 0:10:13 – “Tree of Probabilities” on Mercury
Will – 0:10:17 – “Will of the Thousands” on Mars
Insight – 0:09.51 – “Terminus of Insight” on Nessus
Hollowed – 0.9:30 – “The Hollowed Hideout” in the Tangled Shore
Warden – 0:11:57 – “Warden of Nothing” in the Tangled Shore
Corrupted – 0:08:49 – “The Corrupted” in the Dreaming City
This helps you in the hunt: The creators of Nightfall Report have updated their site to assist emblem hunters in their search.
How many have it now? Before it became known, according to the site light.gg, 0.06% of Guardians had the emblem. Now it is 0.08% – so it is still likely a very rare emblem.
In the Stormblood expansion of Final Fantasy XIV, the low difficulty of the bosses has often been criticized. Our author Irie believes that a good fight requires more.
The primal and trial fights have always been one of the central aspects of FFXIV. The often spectacularly staged bosses shine not only with their appearance and variety but also with their combat mechanics and backstories.
In the Stormblood expansion, the developers tried out some new things with mechanics and battle design. Some of these were really cool, while others were less so.
However, they were all primarily criticized for the difficulty, which was kept low compared to earlier expansions, even in extreme versions. The following three trials show that difficulty is not the only thing that makes a good fight.
Warning: From now on, there are major spoilers regarding the FFXIV story!
Dragon Shinryu
The dragon summoned by Ilberd initially had no name. The shinobi from Doma called him “Shinryu”, after a powerful dragon from their legend.
Who is Shinryu? Shinryu is a huge dragon that players must fight throughout the Stormblood story.
He first appears at the end of the Heavensward expansion when he is summoned by Ilberd Feare through immense hatred and with the help of magical eyes from the dragon Nidhogg. Ilberd hails from Ala Mhigo, which has been occupied by the Garlean Empire for a long time.
To achieve his goals, he did not shy away from murder nor betrayal and certainly not from summoning the primal Shinryu, for which he sacrificed countless lives. He is one of the characters in Final Fantasy XIV that I would personally love to slay if I could.

Shortly after his summoning, Shinryu is embroiled in a fierce battle with the super weapon Omega, which was previously specifically used as an anti-primal weapon. Both overpowering beings unleash all their power against each other. Due to the force of the explosion, they crashed into Gyr Abania and vanished for the time being.
When players reach the end of the first part of Stormblood, they discover that Shinryu has been found by the Garlean and Prince Zenos yae Galvus merges with the primal to fight against the player character.
The Crown Prince of Garlemald, Zenos, merges with the primal Shinryu to fight against the player character.
What makes Shinryu special? Shinryu is cool in many ways. His birth was triggered by one of the most brutal scenes in Final Fantasy XIV, and his first real appearance was accompanied by an action-packed cinematic. The battle between him and Omega is definitely one of my favorite scenes from the game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAHFZR0D9ss
As a player, you had to witness the creation of this monster and could do nothing about it. That was a really cool moment for me.
Although Shinryu did not possess as much character as some other primals and, for example, never spoke, he is still deeply rooted in the story of FFXIV.
The actual fight against Shinryu is also impressive. In terms of size, few opponents can measure up to him.
In battle, Shinryu gradually destroys the arena with his tail.
When a player runs onto the platform high above the royal palace of Ala Mhigo for the first time, it feels epic. I still remember watching the cutscene back then and thinking, “Now this could be something…”
Although Shinryu was a challenging encounter at the release of Stormblood, it is primarily the strong “Wow!” factor and the setting that make the battle so unforgettable. It is a worthy final battle that concluded the first chapter of the expansion.
Tsukuyomi
Asahi sas Brutus, the envoy of Garlemald and brother of Yotsuyu, managed to summon Tsukuyomi through a cunning trap.
Who is Tsukuyomi? Tsukuyomi is also a primal who plays an important role in the Stormblood story. The NPC Yotsuyu, who transforms into Tsukuyomi, is introduced early in the game as one of the antagonists of the Stormblood expansion.
As the deputy regent of the nation Doma, which was long oppressed by the Garlean Empire, she spread fear and terror. At first, Square made me really hate the character, only to later transform that feeling into pity.
Throughout the story of Stormblood, the player learns more about how Yotsuyu became the merciless and cruel tyrant she is.
The vice-regent Yotsuyu was known to all for her cruelty and sadism, also dubbed “the witch of Doma”.
Her story is quite tragic. Despised by her adoptive parents and brother and regarded only as a tool, she was sold to a brothel while still a young girl. Through sheer force of hatred and defiance, she worked her way up and became the vice-regent of Doma.
It was clear from the beginning that this character would not get a happy ending. It was all the more difficult to watch as she builds a close relationship with the NPC Gozetsu after a memory loss. I knew something really bad was going to happen.
In the end, tricked by her adoptive brother, she transforms into the primal Tsukuyomi with the intent to take revenge on all those who made her the monster she has become.
Throughout the story, Yotsuyu loses her memory and becomes a very sweet young woman who likes sweets.
What makes Tsukuyomi special? Besides the sad story of Yotsuyu, which leads to the fight against Tsukuyomi, the primal shines primarily through its design.
The Japanese development team has really put their muscles into play here. I was genuinely amazed to see that the battle seamlessly connects FFXIV’s story elements with the symbolism of Japanese Shinto religion and the language of flowers Ikebana.
The entire design of the fight harmonizes perfectly with its individual elements, and I am sure I have overlooked many subtle details.

The design is based on two strong motifs. The first is the moon. In Japanese Shinto religion, Tsukuyomi is the god of the moon, and this is reflected in the battle design:
The battlefield splits for one mechanic into a dark and a light side, similar to the moon. In the extreme version of the fight, the arena even randomly switches between full moon and new moon.
The primal Tsukuyomi itself is also half black and half white.
She also has bunny ears, which are a symbol for the Japanese story of the rabbit in the moon (similar to how we have the man in the moon).
The second motif is the spider lily, which forms part of Tsukuyomi’s dress and is used multiple times as an attack animation in the battle.
In the Japanese language of flowers Ikebana, the spider lily represents death, abandonment, and loss of memories. All three are characteristics that perfectly apply to Yotsuyu.
The roots and leaves of the plant are toxic. This symbolizes that Yotsuyu was not only corrupted on the outside but also deeply within her soul, and that there could be no happy ending for her.
The flower typically blooms at the end of the summer rainy season in Japan, a season also referred to as “Tsuyu”. Tsuyu was the nickname given to Yotsuyu by the samurai Gosetsu.
In Japanese, the spider lily is called “Higanbana”, which translates roughly to “the flower from the other shore”, i.e., the flower from the realm of the dead.
Honestly: Isn’t that awesome? These elements give the fight an added depth, and you can tell the developers really put a lot of effort into this, even though it is not that difficult.
It is certainly not the only fight where such elements occur. Sephirot is another good example of this, but with Tsukuyomi, the devs have taken it to a new level.
Beast God Suzaku
Suzaku begins the fight as a fire bird and transforms into a humanoid being in the second phase.
Who is Suzaku? In contrast to the two primals, Suzaku plays only a supporting role in the Stormblood story. She is one of the four beast gods who sealed the evil being Koryu together with her human friend Tenzen a long time ago.
Suzaku fell in love with Tenzen but never revealed her feelings to him. When he died in the fight against Koryu, she could not forgive herself for being too weak to protect him.
Many years later, when she meets the player character, she is on the verge of breaking down. To prevent her from transforming into a monster, players must engage her in battle.
Suzaku remembers the good times and the journey shared with Tenzen and her friends.
What makes Suzaku special? The story of Suzaku is beautiful, but it definitely does not reach the drama of the two primals on our list. For me, the strengths and distinctions of Suzaku lie in the mechanics of her fight.
Suzaku’s humanoid form has a flute that she plays during the fight. The mechanics are therefore reminiscent of rhythm games like the “Dance Dance Revolution” series.
I remember shouting “No way, how cool is this!” during my first battle against Suzaku when I realized how the mechanics worked. It was a really funny moment.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u20Py_d2aI8
On the battlefield, arrows appear that determine the direction players must look to execute the mechanic correctly. Later in the fight, the battlefield changes, along with Suzaku’s rhythm game.
She sends out a firebird that circles the arena and causes individual colored fields to explode. This also happens to a preset rhythm that players must adhere to.
Even though Suzaku is not the hardest boss, these “mini-games” within a boss fight are exclusive to her and unique in their own way.
Additionally, the woman has very high meme potential, which has been extensively utilized by the FFXIV community. This has also caused quite a few laughs during the farming of the extreme version.
After much farming, I can now recite the monologues Suzaku delivers during the fight by heart.
I am also a big fan of battles with a high challenging difficulty level, but that’s not the only thing that makes a good fight.
What do you think are the coolest trials from Stormblood? Did you find other boss fights particularly well done? Let us know!
Yesterday, a major event with a volcanic eruption and item selection took place in Fortnite. In the end, there was a new Fortnite map and the Drum Gun returned. However, not everyone could see the event: Therefore, Epic is now giving away the Arcana Glider as compensation.
Who gets the Arcana Glider? Players who have played the “Open Vault” mode. are supposed to receive the glider.
The mode was only online shortly before 9 PM on Saturday, May 4th. It hosted the big live event at the end of Season 8.
In this mode “Open Vault”, you must have played on Saturday evening to receive the glider.
What does the Arcana Glider look like? The Arcana Glider is an epic glider that normally costs 1200 V-Bucks in the Epic Shop.
We have embedded an image of the Arcana Glider here.
The glider was part of new sets that came to Fortnite on May 3rd.
When will the glider be available? It is not clear yet. Epic only mentions that players will receive it “in the next few days”.
It will probably happen over the course of next week.
This is what happens if you already have the glider: If you have already purchased the glider in the Fortnite Shop, Epic will refund the 1200 V-Bucks in Fortnite.
What was the problem? Apparently, not all players could experience the event with the opening of the vault and the volcanic eruption as planned. We received some complaints at MeinMMO as well.
A MeinMMO reader, Finn_Kgr, writes:
“Unfortunately, many players could not experience the event due to a glitch, including me. The timer simply stayed at 0, disappeared, and did not reappear. This repeated endlessly. After 15 minutes, all players left the match without anything happening. Really frustrating; I’ve been waiting for this for days.”

If you want to see what happened in the event, we recommend this article:
Guild Wars 1 has received a patch with minor updates to celebrate its fourteenth birthday. Although the developers are focused on the successor Guild Wars 2, the game still has an active fan base.
What’s in the new patch? The patch from May 1 did not bring new content, but focused on “Quality of Life” changes. These include among other things:
A master volume slider for sound
The ability to prevent compass rotation
An in-game clock
The option to limit frames in the game
A borderless window mode
Many bug fixes
Even though the patch itself did not contain huge innovations, it has a symbolic meaning for the players. The developer ArenaNet has not forgotten its first game and the community. Since May 2018, there have been such updates from time to time.
Guild Wars 1 remains very popular among players
Although the last content update was more than seven years ago, there are still many players who stick to Guild Wars 1. And there are various reasons for that.
Do you need a lot of players in Guild Wars 1? MMORPGs usually rely on social structures and group formation. However, Guild Wars 1 has created a system that offers a home to both group and solo players.
While you can meet, chat, and form groups with players in cities, you fight in instanced areas. Thanks to the heroes and henchmen, you always set out with the maximum possible number of players, regardless of whether you have real players with you or not.
That’s why the game still works well 14 years after its release. You can interact with other players, but you don’t have to. Not even in PvP, where especially in the Heroes’ Ascension game mode, individual players with heroes as support currently dominate.
How extensive is the crafting of builds: In Guild Wars 1, you can only bring eight skills to an adventure. These are changed at an outpost. The selection of skills is immense. Each class has about 250 skills, and thanks to the secondary class, every character theoretically has access to all these skills.
If you then equip your heroes, you can easily spend several hours just perfecting the group build. The skill system is still considered by many players to be one of the best.
These are the titles in Guild Wars 1: ArenaNet has created a title system with Guild Wars 1 that is incredibly rewarding. There are titles for nearly all tasks in the game, and many can be achieved quickly.
But there are also titles that require months or years of work. The pinnacle is the “God Among Mortals” title, which you earn for obtaining a total of 30 different titles.
Those who ran around with the God were especially admired by many people in the first years after its introduction. ArenaNet even managed to transfer some bonuses to the successor with the Hall of Monuments.
These are the major differences to Guild Wars 2: Guild Wars 1 still has so many fans because there is no comparable game. The successor, Guild Wars 2, has done many things differently.
It focused on an open world, a different skill system, increased emphasis on PvE, and implemented storytelling in a completely different way. Not every fan of the franchise agreed with these changes. Some simply remained loyal to the predecessor.
Is it still worth buying Guild Wars 1 today?
Are there still many players in Guild Wars 1? The question of player numbers is difficult because there are various districts in the cities, and active players usually find themselves in instanced areas.
In the capitals Kamadan and Lion’s Arch, several American districts tend to develop during peak times. Most players currently gather there, regardless of their language. Appropriately for the current birthday event, even six districts can be found in the Monastery of Shing Jea, the first city in the Factions chapter.
So there are still players, and if you look in forums like Wartower, you will see that even German guilds are looking for new players.
Thanks to the heroes and henchmen, one can experience the story and meet many of the title requirements even without needing other players.
Is Guild Wars 1 worth it for Guild Wars 2 players? Those who already play Guild Wars 2 but have not yet checked out the predecessor have two good reasons to do so:
The lore
Special rewards for Guild Wars 1 players in Guild Wars 2
Of course, you experience Guild Wars 2 differently if you know the backstory. You will recognize areas, meet descendants or spirits of already known NPCs, and understand many references better.
Additionally, there are various armors, titles, and even achievement points if you use the Hall of Monuments from the expansion Eye of the North.
But be warned: Guild Wars 1 plays very differently from its successor. This starts with dodging roles, jumping, or casting skills. A guide for getting into the game can be found at the colleagues at Guildnews, for whom the author also writes.
How much does Guild Wars 1 cost? Guild Wars 1 is buy-to-play. You pay once for the game, but have no monthly fees. Additionally, there is a shop with clothing sets and account improvements like character and bank slots.
In the official store, you pay €39.99 for the Complete Collection with all 4 chapters. Each chapter costs €19.99 individually.
However, until May 7, there is a 50% discount for players. There, you only pay €19.99 for the complete collection and €9.99 per chapter.
Alternatively, you can also buy Guild Wars 1 on Steam. There, the trilogy without the Eye of the North expansion costs €29.99.
But not only in Guild Wars 1 are there updates. The successor is currently waiting for a very important one:
Some aspects of World of Warcraft: Classic were mean, nerve-racking or simply unfair. We will show you some things that will drive you up the wall.
The anticipation among many players is great, as World of Warcraft: Classic is supposed to be officially available again in just a few months. But aside from all the cool nostalgic moments that players have been looking forward to for a long time, there are also a few things that drove us crazy back then.
We will show you 5 different situations from classic World of Warcraft that will drive some players back into frustration.
[toc]
1. Blood of Heroes
Those wandering through the large areas of the Western and Eastern Plaguelands for the first time and keeping their eyes open will sooner or later spot some glowing red spots. Upon closer inspection, these red points turn out to be “Blood of Heroes,” lying in small puddles on the ground that can be clicked.
A click grants the item “Blood of Heroes,” but it also has another effect: An elite enemy is summoned, who immediately attacks the player character. If you are a cloth wearer, it often happened that the opponent knocked the player out of life with just one or two hits.
The Blood of Heroes was always tempting – but a click often led to death.
The Blood of Heroes was a rare resource needed for quests with the Shen’dralar or in the raid of Zul’Gurub, so it is quite a noble crafting material.
However, summoning the elite enemy comes as a surprise for every player, teaching the lesson in Classic: Don’t click on anything you don’t know – unless you can live with the consequences.
Azerothian Diamonds
Farming materials was an essential part of the Classic experience. Anyone who wanted to do something with their professions had to farm vast amounts of materials. Not just for hours, but sometimes for several days. Especially blacksmiths and thus miners are likely to remember a very special gem, the “Azerothian Diamond.”
The Thorium Ore was sought after – only it could contain the Azerothian Diamonds.
This diamond could only be obtained from Thorium deposits (later also from Obsidian chunks) with a very low probability.
Since Thorium itself was extremely sought after and resources in an area were highly limited (consider: back then, only one person could gather materials), it could take several evenings before one owned an Azerothian Diamond.
The fact that some recipes consumed several of these lumps did not exactly improve the situation.
However, the result was even more satisfying. Anyone who could finally craft their “Arcane Champion” after long days of farming was quite proud of that weapon. Anyone who comes into possession of such a diamond and cannot use it with their professions can at least fetch a nice sum in the auction house.
Son of Arugal
If you, as a player of the Horde, still sometimes panic and move the camera around today, fearing to be attacked from somewhere, the origin of that likely lies in Classic. More precisely, in Silverpine Forest. Here, there was an enemy named “Son of Arugal,” who is responsible for many low-level traumas.
The Sons of Arugal were elite opponents scattered throughout Silverpine Forest. They were not only much stronger than the ordinary enemies of the area, but also had 10-15 levels more on their counter. Thus, it often happened that a fresh undead hero from Tirisfal ventured into Silverpine Forest to explore the new area. During the first quests, one would then hear the howl of a worgen, only to be killed by a critical hit a second later.
The Sons of Arugal did not serve any real gameplay purpose. They were not part of any quest, nor was there any special reward for killing one of them. However, they contributed perfectly to the atmosphere of Silverpine Forest and ensured that every step was planned carefully.
Respawn of Trash Mobs
Nowadays, if you are in dungeons and raids of World of Warcraft, you live with many comfort features that you might not appreciate. Back then, respawning enemies was a real problem – even within dungeons and raids!
Almost all enemies (except bosses) had a respawn timer of about 2 hours in dungeons. Since dungeon visits in Classic could easily take 3 to 4 hours, or one could spend the entire autumn break in the maze of Maraudon, many groups of enemies had to be fought multiple times.
Today, there are many “checkpoints” that prevent the respawn of trash mobs. For example, if you have killed the 4th boss in a current raid, you will not experience a respawn of trash mobs up to that point.
If you didn’t defeat a raid in Classic on one evening and only wanted to kill “Ragnaros” in the Molten Core the next evening, you had to fight through trash mobs for 30-45 minutes to challenge the Firelord.
Crafting Restrictions
If you think that professions in the current World of Warcraft are of little use, you are certainly right in some way. But it’s often forgotten how annoying professions could be in Classic!
Many professions had strange and sometimes downright nonsensical restrictions.
Only in moon wells could tailors create moon cloth – a well was often far away.
For example, tailors could only create “Moon Cloth” every few days and had to visit a moon well to do so. These could only be found in a few places in the game – for example, in Darnassus. So one had to either make a long journey or ask a mage for a portal.
Portals were still quite costly back then, as they consumed runes. Anyone who wanted to create moon cloth “just quickly” could soon say goodbye to that idea.
Even more strenuous was it for alchemists wanting to create potions. They had to go to a specific lab, which only existed in two places in the game.
One was found in the dungeon Scholomance, at the boss Ras Frostwhisper. The second lab could be found in the raid “Blackwing Lair” (BWL).
A “normal player” could only find such a lab in Scholomance.
So, if you wanted to stock up on potions before a raid night, you had to not only gather rare materials like Black Lotus but also find a dungeon group.
Overall, it was a very time-consuming undertaking. But for many, that is exactly what makes Classic appealing.
Are you looking forward to revisiting these situations? Do these and other moments make up the charm of Classic? Or could you do without one or the other moment?

For years, players in Europe and North America have been waiting for great, new PvE MMORPGs that bring back the allure of the past. Thus, the hype is huge when a new online role-playing game is released. We take a look at 3 MMORPGs from recent years that many were looking forward to but that have brutally failed.
Hardly any fanbase is currently longing for a “new game” as much as fans of classic theme park MMORPGs. Well, maybe fans of Diablo.
Today we want to look at three online role-playing games that players were incredibly excited about at the time, but that ultimately failed miserably.
What do the games have in common?
All three MMORPGs are characterized by being developed with a “high budget” over a long period and by large teams, thus they were considered AAA titles – however, the exact development costs are rarely known
all three games were eagerly anticipated and generated high expectations
all games are considered to have failed dramatically – not “it was actually going quite well and then slowly declined”, but rather games that had a loud and hard crash
WildStar
What WildStar wanted to be: The SF MMORPG WildStar wanted to be the better World of Warcraft, a WoW like it used to be before Blizzard “caved in to the casuals” and made everything so easy.
Thus, the studio Carbine made it their mission to be a “hardcore MMORPG.” It was supposed to be developed closely with the fanbase and provide a fascinating gaming experience at launch.

After videos like this one, MMORPG fans were incredibly excited for WildStar.
Why was the hype so big? The team said all the right things in advance. The videos were humorous, well-produced, and just wonderfully made.
The plans sounded fantastic:
The team wanted to work on multiple content patches simultaneously to ensure that new content was always coming. This was intended to compensate for the major weakness of WoW.
the combat system active and interesting – unlike the usual tab-targeting in the genre
the world of WildStar displayed a quirky and bizarre SF look – not in the classic fantasy guise
All features that were supposed to clearly distinguish WildStar from WoW and similar games to bring fresh wind into the stagnant MMORPG genre.
Additionally, there was an extensive beta for WildStar, during which players could test and play everything for months.
The plans paid off – the hype at launch was tremendous. In Germany alone, two major fan sites had emerged to accompany “the next big thing” from the very beginning.
Just for the Chua, one had to love WildStar.
This is how the launch went: WildStar had a relatively good and smooth launch. The game sold very well.
The atmosphere in the first weeks was positive – although many players already knew the game up to the endgame due to the beta. But more would be coming soon.
However, it quickly became apparent that the “hardcore” aspect was too strenuous for many, as one had to qualify laboriously for the raid.
In the beginning, there was still good grinning, but problems piled up in the background.
What went wrong? The good mood faded after a few weeks. WildStar relied on a subscription model, and many evidently did not renew their subscriptions.
The promised constant content updates did not materialize. Difficulties arose:
Suddenly, the loot didn’t feel that interesting
the PvP was hardly used
there were construction sites and bugs that were not repaired.
Disappointment quickly set in: Carbine gradually retracted its promises.
What ultimately caused WildStar’s failure? The lofty plans of WildStar collapsed after the launch. Carbine apparently never managed to transition from a team developing an MMORPG to a team supporting a live MMORPG.
The departure of Stephan Frost, the figurehead of WildStar, was a major blow.
Later, it was rumored: The plan to work on multiple patches simultaneously turned out to be a catastrophic mistake for Carbine. It significantly blocked the further development of WildStar.
In hindsight, much dirty laundry was aired publicly, the management was blamed, it was said by supposed former developers who anonymously posted their complaints.
WildStar never really had a chance, it was alleged, that it had been doomed from the start, said one who claimed to be a former developer.
Anyway: WildStar never managed to find its footing. After the good start, the MMORPG ran out of steam. A switch to free-to-play a year after the launch couldn’t bring a resurgence, and ultimately, NCSoft pulled the plug in 2018 after many years.
Gearbox showcased gameplay of Borderlands 3 for the first time at an event. Our author Leya was able to play Gearbox’s new loot shooter for a total of 3 hours. She thinks: It’s Borderlands 2, just more extreme and better.
What kind of event is this? Gearbox invited various media representatives to Los Angeles on April 30 to test Borderlands 3 for the first time. Along with us were Maurice Weber for our sister site GameStar.de and myself, Leya for MeinMMO.
When is the release? Borderlands 3 will be released on September 13, 2019.
How long and what could we play? I played for a total of 3 hours. We had two characters to choose from for testing: Amara and Zane.
In the demo, we were able to play a part of one of the first quests and were a bit further into the beginning. The first skills could be unlocked, and we already had good equipment available to start shooting right away.
Our first impression in the video with gameplay
What is this video about? The GameStar video editor Christian Fritz Schneider interviewed Maurice and me right after we played Borderlands 3.
We describe our first impression, and you will get to see freshly recorded gameplay material. The game was played on PC with an Xbox controller.
Below the video, you will find a personal conclusion.

This is my connection to Borderlands: The franchise is one of my favorites. I played every Borderlands title and spent quite a few hundred hours in Borderlands 2.
I feel at home in Pandora, and Borderlands 3 was able to give me that feeling too. The heart of Borderlands has remained, and Gearbox does not change anything drastically about the formula.
Borderlands 3 retains, as usual:
the dark, absurd humor
the absurdity
the MMO shooter feeling through co-op focus and fun loot grind spiral
the lovingly crafted characters and game world
guns, guns, and more guns
The green enemy being shot here is one of the stronger ones and certainly gave me a hard time!
This makes Borderlands 3 more extreme than its predecessors: The game overall will be bigger, more colorful, and even bloodier. The entire atmosphere now leans towards a stronger cyberpunk direction, and much is bathed in vibrant neon colors.
It might be that Borderlands 3 feels bloodier to me because the graphics have improved significantly. I can now observe in detail how heads explode or how an NPC crawls out of an animal carcass, dragging a huge puddle of blood with them.
There are multiple planets that we travel to in a spaceship, which is also our home base. For the first time, we are leaving Pandora.
There are many more weapons and bosses to fight against. How many specifically has not been revealed yet.
The weapons can receive individual upgrades.
The bosses are now two in number and have a complete cult under them: The Calypso twins Tyreen and Troy. Tyreen directly absorbs life energy from her opponents and wants to do the same with vault monsters.
No Borderlands without psychos as enemies!
This is what I particularly liked: While playing, I often had to laugh and was just happy that the dark and absurd humor has made its way back to Borderlands 3.
It’s the little moments when one of the NPCs sends me on a super important mission to get their coffee because otherwise, they would be too grumpy to fight. When I arrive with the coffee, a robot with a mustache and an ideology about ecological coffee, which an authentically hipster bartender could not convey better, is already waiting for me. In such moments, I love Borderlands 3 right away, because there is so much love in these details.
This robot knows what he is talking about when it comes to ecologically grown coffee. His mustache already reveals it.
The gameplay feels fantastic! It’s simply fun to run around with the Brawler Siren Amara and beat enemies with her strong arms. Blood is spraying, everything explodes in a spectacular fireworks display, it’s just great fun.
This still worries me: It’s cool that there are now more planets to explore. However, I wonder what that will look like in detail. Is there a line to follow, or does everything split too much across the planets? What about loading screens? From spaceship to planet and back? Other testers I spoke with shared this concern, as it’s not clear-cut.
The first boss I fought, a flying brain, was a bit bland. There are smaller enemies in the demo that have more exciting mechanics than Gigamind, the boss enemy. Unfortunately, we have not been told much about further bosses yet, and this is one of the first opponents. I’m waiting patiently here.
FL4K remains just as much a mystery as the later bosses in Borderlands 3 – He could not be played.
The outlook is good: So far, I am confident that Borderlands 3 could be a hit, attracting both fans and newcomers alike. The loot shooter genre has been well established and popular, especially since Destiny 1 – even if Borderlands is actually the mother of it.
the story looks promising
there are lovable NPCs in it
the gameplay with characters and weapons is fun
it looks good if you like the shading cell style
4 DLCs are already planned, which speaks to longevity
the comfort improvements and modernizations are well thought out
In the release window (September 13), there are no other major releases.
On Fortnite , a live event took place on Saturday, May 4th, starting at 9 PM. It delivered what was promised, says our author Schuhmann. Players have brought the Tommy Gun, the drum gun, back to Fortnite. Additionally, the volcano erupted, significantly changing the map: Fortnite has a new map after the event.
For weeks, speculation has been running about how the season end for Fortnite’s 8th season would play out – and indeed, all speculations and datamining findings turned out to be true. It was a grand spectacle.
This is how the event began: The event took place in the “Open Vault” mode. This was a team battle, with the eye of the storm brewing over Loot Lake.
However, at 8:59 PM, the mode was switched to “pacifist”, meaning no attacking was allowed and the weapons fell silent.
Players could enter a sort of other dimension: a room with 6 pillars, each symbolizing an item that was once in Fortnite but was then removed from the game.
This is what the room looked like that players entered – 6 pillars rose from the ground, each representing an item.
Fortnite introduces democracy
This is how the ingame voting went: Players hit the pillar with the item they wished to bring back with their pickaxes.
In my instance and likely in most others, the “drum gun” was the clear favorite, and here the pillar steadily rose.
Hardly anyone hit the planes, the Infinity Blade, or the Grappler.
As it became apparent that the Tommy Gun was the favorite of the masses, more and more switched to the weapon’s pillar to boost the progress.
The voting lasted only a few moments.
Quickly, most players gathered around the drum gun and hacked at it.
When the pillar was “full”, this phase of the event ended, and the players were launched into the air.
Volcano erupts, destroys Tilted Towers, brings a new Fortnite map
This is how the event continued: In the air, players were able to observe the eruption of the gigantic volcano in the northeastern part of the Fortnite map. It threw at least three large debris pieces into the air.
The volcano erupts.
I have already seen that Tilted Towers was almost completely destroyed.
What can the Drum Gun do in Fortnite? The Drum Gun is an assault rifle with 26/27 damage and a magazine size of 50. (via fortnite.gamepedia)
The drum gun is considered a good weapon for mid and close range. It originally appeared with patch 4.5 in July 2018 and was removed with update 5.40 in September 2018.
Meanwhile, a countdown has appeared in Fortnite which is counting down. This countdown is located above Loot Lake.
It is clear that something big is happening tonight, Saturday, May 4th.
When is the Live Event in Fortnite today?
When does the countdown end? The countdown ends on Saturday, May 4th, at 9:00 PM our time.
Then the Fortnite event should start today.
What happens when the countdown ends? We do not fully know yet, but there are hints about what is likely to happen:
All game modes will likely be disabled again, except for one option, similar to the Marshmello event. Anyone wanting to play Fortnite will have to do so in this event mode.
How might the map change?
It is highly likely that the volcano in the northeast of the island could erupt.
Under Loot Lake, there is said to be an “alien structure” underground. Apparently, Epic is planning an event where players can vote on which of 6 items that once were in Fortnite but got removed will come back to the game.
Currently, one should be more cautious near Loot Lake than usual, as Epic has already warned on Twitter. Otherwise, one could end up like Tfue in this clip (via dexerto):

Even over 3 years after release, For Honor still has some loyal players – recently, the number of players even increased again. What is the reason for this?
This is what has happened with For Honor so far: Since its announcement in 2015, For Honor has had a turbulent history.
Then For Honor revealed some glaring issues and drew much criticism. Numerous bugs and glitches occurred, players complained about steel prices, and there were many other weaknesses.
Additionally, the “Marching Fire” update was released. Player numbers on Steam rose significantly again.
There is a roadmap for 2019. Every month there is a new season with new fighters, events, and other content.
How did For Honor manage to stay afloat?
Although the stars did not align well for For Honor in 2017, Ubisoft continued to support the developers.
Many other publishers would likely have simply let the game “die.” The developers have made efforts in recent years to address the game’s weaknesses.
Furthermore, starting in 2018, there were regular new, motivating content like new fighters, events, and the “Marching Fire” expansion.
The numbers say: On Steam, the numbers of the last months remained stable. Rarely did the peak number of players online in a day drop below 8000 players.
The other platforms like Ubisoft’s Uplay service or the console versions are not even included here. Ubisoft does not provide any more precise numbers.
Nevertheless, the data shows that For Honor is managing to retain a solid player base.
What does it look like now? Thousands of players are playing For Honor on Steam every day. Recently, the trend has been increasing again. In the last 30 days, the average number of players has risen again.
Although only minimally by about 5%, For Honor is still managing to attract players after over 3 years.
What’s in Season 2: The start of the new season is also responsible for this. It started on May 2 and ends in July and brings:
another new fighter, the samurai Hitokiri and the female variant Sakura.
a new map
a new seasonal event
further changes (balance optimizations, steel prices)
What comes next?
The roadmap for this year only includes the upcoming seasons so far.
The third season begins in August and ends in October. You will get access to another character from the Vikings
This yet unnamed season will introduce another hero for the Wu Lin. The season is scheduled to take place from November to possibly January 2020
Whether For Honor can continue to keep its players engaged remains to be seen. So far, no major add-on has been announced.
Do you actively play For Honor? What do you think about it?

The actor who portrayed Chewbacca, Peter Mayhew, passed away on April 30. In the spirit of the new Star Wars motto “No one is ever really gone,” many players from the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic are honoring the actor with huge memorial celebrations.
This is how fans are honoring the actor: After Peter Mayhew passed away at the age of 74 in his home in Texas, some Star Wars fans in The Old Republic organized a sort of requiem for the actor.
