1. Hit Reset through abilities

What is it? When you swing a melee weapon for a light or heavy hit, there is a short time after the attack before you can strike again. You can interrupt this “cooldown” between your attacks by using an ability.

How does it work? Hit an opponent, then immediately use an ability and hit them again. This way, you can bypass the small delay between your attacks and deal more damage per second in a prolonged fight.

What does it achieve? Not only can you deal more damage over time, but you can also create unpredictable maneuvers in PvP. After your strike, your enemy assumes that much more time must pass before you can deal the next heavy blow. However, that’s not the case with this trick.

2. Switching weapons makes you faster

What is it? Switching weapons also allows you to interrupt an animation and thus perform a new action faster. This is particularly effective with the dodge roll that you can perform while wearing light and medium armor.

How does it work? When you perform a dodge roll forward, your character has a brief delay when getting up. In English, this is referred to as the “Stagger Step”. So you cannot move for a short time when getting up from the roll.

However, if you switch your weapon or sheathe it at the end of your dodge roll, you interrupt the animation and the annoying Stagger Step disappears. You can then immediately continue running and follow up with the next dodge roll.

What does it achieve? This trick actually helps not only in combat but also in the normal environment, as you can move considerably faster when you interrupt this Stagger Step.

Of course, this is also sensible in combat, as you are not tied to a position for as long as you would be when dodging normally. However, you should be cautious about coordinating your weapon switch effectively, as an interrupted Stagger Step is of little use with a weapon that has all abilities on cooldown.

3. Guaranteed critical hits

What is it? A critical hit deals more damage. This is the case in almost all MMOs and is also true in New World. Your general chance of critical hits can be increased through attributes and various values in the game.

However, two ways lead to guaranteed critical hits, regardless of your attributes. One is for ranged weapons, and the other is for melee weapons. Therefore, there is always a way to hit your opponent especially hard.

How does it work? First, let’s look at ranged weapons, because here the trick is actually quite simple – A headshot on your opponent always automatically results in a critical hit. So our tip here is to always aim for the heads.

With melee weapons, it’s a bit more complicated, and strikes only deal critical hits when you catch your enemy from behind. Additionally, another tip can be provided that revolves around stuns in the game.

If you stun an opponent, the next strike on them will break their stun. You can therefore stun your enemy to circle around them and then hit them critically from behind.

What does it achieve? Now the answer is quite simple and short – more damage. Additionally, if you focus on applying these tricks more often, you automatically concentrate more on your opponent’s movements, which could also benefit you in other areas.

4. Never consume all your stamina

What is it? If you consume all your stamina in New World and reach 0, a phase of stamina regeneration begins. Then, you cannot use any stamina again until it is full.

However, if you do not reach the value of 0, you can still use your stamina, and it regenerates even faster than if it had been completely depleted beforehand.

How does it work? As an example, let’s take the dodge roll of light armor. It consumes exactly 50 stamina out of the 100 you have. If you perform two dodge rolls back-to-back, your stamina is empty, and you must wait for a while before you can dodge again.

However, if you wait just one second before engaging in the second roll, you have 51 stamina before the jump and 1 stamina afterward. The difference is significant. Not only does your stamina regenerate faster, but if things get critical, you can even execute 3 dodge rolls in a row in this way.

You can always dodge as long as you still have stamina, even if it’s just one point. By waiting just about one second before the second dodge, you can source a third roll from your stamina reserve.

What does it achieve? Faster stamina regeneration helps you move quickly through the world and allows you to act more flexibly in combat. If the situation arises where you must urgently escape, the third dodge roll is a great ace up your sleeve.

5. Riding the axe in close combat

What is it? Admittedly, the name is a bit misleading, and it also works with other weapons. Furthermore, you are not really riding on the axe, but with the axe, but that’s splitting hairs.

If you perform a light attack with a melee weapon immediately after a dodge roll, you can increase your weapon’s range and even surf a few meters over the ground until you reach your target. This is especially a good extension of mobility for heavy weapons.

How does it work? The trick only works with melee weapons and only when you can target an opponent. Without an enemy in immediate proximity, this tip is of no use to you.

You must target your enemy, “dodge toward them,” and initiate a light attack on your opponent during your dodge roll. This light attack is then executed as soon as you come out of the dodge roll. This results in seemingly overcoming the remaining distance to the opponent while surfing along the ground.

The range at which this trick works depends on the weapon you are using. It is particularly effective with the great hammer and the war axe, while the hatchet and rapier have little to no significant effect.

What does it achieve? This trick is especially helpful for heavy weapons, like the hammer and the war axe, as it grants you valuable mobility, which is otherwise scarce with large weapons.

This way, you can bridge several meters and have no drawback from this approach. So what are you waiting for? Grab your axe and surf away.

6. The musket and reloading

What is it? Anyone who has played the musket can surely remember the annoying reloading. There are several tricks that work well with the musket, making your life easier and can even lead to more damage.

Most of them deal with interrupting certain animations, as was the case with the dodge rolls and weapon switch tricks. But we will explain this in more detail here.

How does it work? The first trick deals with the ability “Tactical Reloading.” If you have learned this passive skill, your musket automatically reloads when you dodge. That’s already pretty cool, but it’s not quite a trick yet.

The trick becomes apparent when you know that you can interrupt dodging with simple aiming in order to shoot again immediately. And it gets even better: if you simply hold down the aiming button, you automatically interrupt the dodging.

You can press the right mouse button to aim, then shoot without releasing the right mouse button, and then dodge. If you don’t press in any direction, you automatically dodge backward and stay more or less on target. You can easily land two headshots in quick succession this way.

Things get a bit more complicated, as the trick also works if you have not yet learned the tactical reloading skill; it just makes it a bit trickier. You can also interrupt the normal reloading animation by switching weapons.

So if you shoot, switch your weapon, attack with your other weapon, and then switch back, your musket is ready to fire again. If you can combine this knowledge with tactical reloading, it gets really wild.

A possible combination could look like this: You shoot with the musket, use the aiming trick from tactical reloading to shoot again immediately, switch your weapon to throw a spear in your opponent’s face, switch back to the musket and shoot again.

There’s a little bonus trick that works for both the musket and the bow. If you fire these weapons from the hip, i.e., without aiming with the right-click, you will move slower for a short time afterward. Dodging removes this status for both weapons.

What does it achieve? The ability to skillfully interrupt these reloading animations opens up completely new ideas for combos and can be extremely beneficial in a build that relies heavily on ranged combat. The otherwise slow musket can therefore do much more damage before your opponent reaches you.

It might be a bit challenging to get used to the sequence of required clicks and differs from your normal intuition in combat, but it can definitely be worth it.

7. Faster casting thanks to dodge roll

What is it? Once again, the dodge roll plays a central role (sorry, I had to). By interrupting an animation and dodging, you receive a temporary bonus to your attack speed.

It is still unclear whether this trick was a bug in the beta or if it is intentionally functioning this way.

How does it work? After you have executed a light attack with the staff or the ice glove, you move slower. The same phenomenon occurs with the bow and the musket. Your behavior should now be similar: you need to roll.

This causes you to return to normal speed with the bow and musket. However, for magic weapons, it results in a significant increase in your ability to quickly perform light attacks for a short time.

This does not work with melee weapons or heavy attacks. However, with the combination of medium armor and the dodge roll, you get a nice boost to your damage per second due to this trick.

What does it achieve? By increasing the rate of fire, your damage per second logically improves. You can use this effectively to take out slightly stronger opponents before they reach you.

Additionally, you can quickly heat up other players in PvP with this. However, it is still unclear whether this is just a bug that could be fixed soon.
