A gamer wanted to build a computer and used a modular power supply. But that almost led to his downfallto become.
Anyone who wants to build a gaming PC has to avoid many pitfalls and stumbling blocks so that everything works smoothly in the end. Other users need to find a hidden error before they can use their PC.
A user has now encountered a particularly annoying error. He had only replaced a power supply. But in doing so, he made an unintended small mistake.
Gamer installs modular power supply and uses cables from another power supply
What exactly did the user do? The builder said on reddit that he replaced the power supply in a computer. He used a modular power supply. The advantage of a modular power supply is simple. You can connect the cables to the power supply yourself and thus ensure better cable management.
But those very cables almost led to the user’s downfall. Because he replaced the power supply but used the old cables from the previous power supply. As soon as he started the computer, it already smelled of burnt plastic.
He describes his post with the sentence: “Don’t change power supplies without changing the cables.”
There is no official cable standard for power supplies
What exactly is the problem? The cables from power supplies are not standardized. Many modular power supplies use different cables that you can then connect to the power supply. A user explains on reddit that this is the biggest problem with such power supplies:
Modular power supply (PSU)? That is due to the fact that there are no standards for modular power supplies. We need to fix that.
When you buy a modular power supply, it usually comes with the right cables for the device that you can and should use directly.
Manufacturers are free to design their power supplies as they wish. This means that, in the worst case, you might plug a connector into your power supply that has totally wrong pins. One user describes the resulting outcome on reddit: “Trying to plug a power connector from the 24-pin connector into a ground connector = Smoke.”
Community believes that the cable problem could be easily solved
The community discusses the problem: Some users believe that power supply manufacturers could easily solve these issues: If the manufacturers instead used proprietary connectors, such “accidents” when building PCs could not happen. Because proprietary connectors could then only be plugged into the specific power supply of the corresponding manufacturer.
There are also such protections for other components, so that no one gets the idea to plug DDR3 memory into a DDR4 slot or an AMD CPU into an Intel socket. It seems that no one has thought of the possibility of accidents occurring with power supply cables until now.
Some users claim in the thread on reddit that a few thick warning stickers would suffice to prevent worse incidents.
Wrong cables can be dangerous: How dangerous seemingly harmless looking cables can be is also shown by a YouTuber. He installed a small cable in his gaming PC to demonstrate how much damage can be caused by doing so:
At gamescom 2022, there was a scuffle among German Twitch streamers such as Tanzverbot, Scurrows, and orangemorange. Afterward, there were calls on Twitter for Twitch to ban the streamers for their aggressive behavior at gamescom. However, one of the participants, Casino streamer Scurrows, is confident: Legally, that’s not possible. If Twitch really bans him, he will sue to return to the platform.
On Friday, August 26, several videos of the incident circulated on Twitter, causing public outrage. Many people wrote that gamescom should be about games, not such behavior. There were also calls for Twitch to ban the involved streamers.
Twitch clause regulates “behavior outside of Twitch”
This was the demand after the incident: A widely noted tweet after the incident came from Twitch streamer Dracon. He referred to a clause in Twitch’s rules regarding “behavior outside of Twitch.” These are relatively new rules: They were updated in April 2021.
The rules state that crimes by Twitch users also pose a safety risk to the Twitch community, even if they are committed entirely outside of Twitch.
A clause that Dracon highlights refers to “actions that directly and clearly threaten the physical integrity of the Twitch community.”
A member of PietSmiet calls for a Twitch ban – receives much support
In a tweet, Twitter user “Don Jay” from the gaming group Pietsmiet called on August 26 for Twitch to ban the involved streamers like orangemorange or Tanzverbot (via twitter).
The tweet received 15,880 likes.

“Twitch is not the Internet police”
This is what one of the participants says about it: The Twitch streamer Theo “Scurrows” Bottländer has extensively commented on Twitter regarding the demand for him to be banned.

To be clear: Twitch is not the Internet police. They can’t ban you on Twitch for your behavior, for example, on YouTube. And certainly not for incidents that occurred offline.

Regarding the clause in the rules, he says: These rules would not withstand court scrutiny. Twitch could also write in the rules that someone would be sentenced to death. That would still not be effective.
Scurrows seems confident that there will be no consequences for him. If he is banned, he has already threatened to sue. When reminded that such a trial could take years, like with streamer Phantomlord, he referred to the possibility of filing an application for injunction to stream again immediately.
Streamer Scurrows considers Twitch’s rules to be ineffective.
Scurrows sees himself as a victim, as he explains in a recent video on YouTube. He believes that the public sentiment against him is so negative only because he is criticized as a “Casino streamer.” The aggressor was Tanzverbot, who behaved “like a wild boar” (via youtube).
However, Scurrows’ tweets are currently no longer visible, his Twitter account is marked as “No longer exists.”
Scurrows is certain: The German constitution protects him.
Streamer successfully sued back to Twitch after 3-year ban in 2021
Why is Scurrows so sure? Scurrows knows from personal experience what it’s like to sue back to Twitch. Because he was banned from Twitch for 3 years starting in 2018.
He went to court against the ban.
As reported by Streamrant, after losing at the district court, Scurrows reportedly managed to lift the ban and return to stream on Twitch with a lawsuit at the higher regional court (via streamrant).

Will there be consequences for the involved Twitch streamers? Probably not. There seem to be high barriers before Twitch intervenes and punishes behavior that did not directly occur on Twitch.
It is known that Twitch responds sensitively to public pressure, but in the past, it has always been about clips from incidents that occurred on Twitch, such as the famous “Uiiii” video from MontanaBlack.

Twitch only bans in rare, very extreme cases outside the platform
Has Twitch ever punished someone for behavior outside of Twitch? There are few known cases where streamers were banned for behavior outside of Twitch. These are often very extreme examples.
The streamer Leafy was banned from Twitch in September 2020 after being involved in a dispute with YouTuber Ethan “h3h3” Klein. He had shown a video on Twitter in which Leafy had gone to a protest with a hidden weapon. This could have led to a ban on Twitch.
There is an incident from June 2019: The Twitch streamer “Methodjosh,” from the leading WoW guild Method, was permanently banned from Twitch. At that time, no one really knew why (via dotesports). Because no behavior was observed on Twitch that would have justified such a harsh penalty.
Later it turned out that the streamer was accused of raping a woman. The police found no results during their investigation, but the streamer was permanently banned from Twitch. The ban likely also included media reports that were published 4 months earlier and were not that serious (via kotaku).
Later, additional women accused the streamer, and there was an incident in June 2020, which led to a temporary dissolution of the guild Method.

The Game Director of Guild Wars 2, Joshua “Grouch” Davis, raves that Guild Wars 2 is currently doing better than at the launch of the expansion, “End of Dragons”, on February 28, 2022 (via mmorpg.pl):
The game is already doing incredibly well; Steam is just the cherry on top. In the weeks leading up to the Steam launch, more players played Guild Wars 2 than at the launch of End of Dragons. The game developed even before the Steam launch. Steam is now just a bonus.

How is the Steam launch going from the director’s perspective?
Game Director Davis says it’s too early to talk about the success of the Steam launch. Because it is important to observe how many players stick around and play consistently: the so-called “retention” rate.
This rate is measured after one day, after 7, 14, and 28 days. The “14 days” number is particularly important: How many players who start with Guild Wars 2 still log in after 2 weeks?
To evaluate this, it is still too early.
However, before the Steam launch, “significant improvements” in retention were noticed. Guild Wars 2 apparently manages to keep players who check out Guild Wars 2 engaged with the MMORPG.
Can the statements be substantiated in any way? Yes, the data supports Davis. When we look at the global Google interest in Guild Wars 2, we see that in the current year, the interest in the week the expansion “End of Dragons” was released was the highest (100%).
The Steam launch, although it looked “relatively weak”, has now brought interest back to a similarly high level (91% of the peak).
The Steam launch has significantly increased the relevance of Guild Wars 2 again. This is particularly important for ArenaNet because they have struggled for years to create such “attention peaks”.
Players apparently find it hard to jump into an ongoing season if they’ve missed the beginning.
As Google Trends shows, Guild Wars has struggled to achieve peaks in relevance in recent years. In 2022, it succeeds.
Other MMORPGs like ESO or WoW use DLCs and expansions to continually set triggers to bring players back or gain new ones. Guild Wars 2 lacked this in recent years.
It seems that Guild Wars 2 has managed to create two such entry points in 2022 with the expansion and the Steam launch.

Now the YouTuber duo RKade has done the opposite and built an especially large keyboard that actually works. However, in practice, it’s not that easy to type letters or whole words.

What kind of keyboard is this? The two YouTubers built the keyboard in their video. The keyboard itself is a frame made of wood, on which the individual keys are mounted. To make the keys work and send the inputs to the computer, they have installed a small control board. This detects the pressed keys.
How does it work in practice? The YouTubers tested the keyboard with a game. The aim is to type words as quickly as possible. In fact, one of them is then allowed to climb around the keyboard and press the corresponding keys. It is very chaotic, as the keys are much further apart than normal.
They stretch and press, and in the video, you can see that they are having a lot of fun. It is also exhausting, as it requires full-body involvement. By the way, you can watch the entire video on YouTube.

The keyboard is not the largest keyboard in the world, but it works
Where is the largest keyboard in the world? The largest keyboard in the world is the “Keyboard Monument” made of concrete by Russian artist Anatoly Vyatkin, installed in 2005 in the city of Yekaterinburg.
The total area of this keyboard is 16 × 4 m and consists of 104 concrete keys. Each regular key weighs about 80 kilograms, and the space bar weighs around 450 kilograms (via wikipedia.com). However, the artist’s keyboard has no real function: you cannot use it to send commands to a computer.

The chances are quite good because, based on experience, you frequently get stronger monsters from the rewards than you would normally find in the wild.
And you should not miss out on the additional bonuses in the form of more stardust and a premium battle pass. With the latter, you can complete additional raids on-site or secure yourself premium access to the GO Battle League.
However, shiny hunters will not benefit from this research breakthrough at all, which is very unfortunate because there is already a shiny version of Meditite in the game.
What does the community say about the new breakthrough? The research breakthrough with Medicham currently receives little acknowledgement in the reddit community. Many find it unfortunate that Medicham will not be available as shiny, which devalues the reward in their opinion.
In addition, Medicham is only interesting for the GO Battle League, and its pre-evolution is also frequently found in the wild. Compared to previous breakthroughs, some consider it less worthwhile. Reddit user thelaziest998 summarizes the opinion of these trainers as follows:
It may be just a small part of the game, but it’s kind of annoying when the rewards used to be legendary Pokémon. For example, when the research came out, there were legendary birds and beasts. At an event for Guild Wars 2, we had the chance to speak in a very small group with two developers of the MMORPG. They told us how it all started back then and that a Guild Wars 2 was actually not planned at all.
During a Guild Wars event near gamescom, not only did some players come together. There was also a small roundtable for the press with the developers.
We were invited to this by MeinMMO along with two colleagues from international sites. We could talk together about the creation of Guild Wars 2. Primarily, it was about the past of the MMORPG.
In line with the 10th anniversary, the developers have gathered many memories and let us share in them. But they also talked about the future and the current Steam release. Particularly interesting was the story that Guild Wars 2 actually should not exist at all.
Who did you speak with? The roundtable was led by two long-time developers at ArenaNet.
Aaron Coberly has been with ArenaNet since 2003 and was involved as the Lead Character Artist in Guild Wars Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, and Eye of the North. Since 2017, he has been the Art Director for Guild Wars 2, primarily responsible for how the MMORPG looks today.
Bobby Stein has been working at ArenaNet since 2005 and was initially involved in the first Guild Wars as a writer. Over the years, he worked his way up to Narrative Director, a position he has held for Guild Wars 2 since 2021. He is responsible for how the story of the MMORPG continues and is told.

Guild Wars 2 was not planned but happened
What were the beginnings? Bobby Stein tells us that Guild Wars 2 was not actually planned as the MMORPG we know today. It was primarily envisioned as a new expansion for Guild Wars 1. To underscore this, he shows us early screenshots of what we now know as Lion’s Arch.
These were still in the GW1 engine, but one can already roughly see where the journey is heading. Even Shaemoor Keep, which stands in the starting area of the humans, was already finished before Guild Wars 2 even existed.
After the first areas and a rough plan of what one intended to do with “the new expansion” for Guild Wars, it became clear that the old engine could not support the existing plans. A new one was needed, and why not just make a new game? That was the birth of Guild Wars 2.
Charr as a unique feature: As a small reminder: In the first Guild Wars, you could only play as humans. These were in conflict with the feline-like Charr. As one of the first ideas, the former enemies of the humans were now chosen as a playable race.
Among humans, Sylvari, Norn, and Asura, they are the only race that is not more or less humanoid. When we asked how much longer it took to animate armor for the four-legged Charr, the developers could only smile. About 40-50% longer it would take, Aaron Coberly reveals to us.
To counteract this time-consuming task, ArenaNet deviated from the concept in GW1, where each class received its own armor. Therefore, in Guild Wars 2, there are now “only” three different armor classes for all playable classes. But it is worth it, because the Charr are still seen by ArenaNet as a unique feature and trademark of Guild Wars 2.
From the Icebrood Saga, the Charr are at the forefront of the story.
The inspiration for the MMORPG was GTA 4
A vibrant world: Besides the Charr, they needed something that would set them apart from the competition at the time. They did not want to be just another MMORPG on the market, as Bobby Stein says.
The brilliant idea actually came from GTA 4. Because there, the world just felt alive, he reports. One could walk through the streets and simply listen to dialogues. Following NPCs, experiencing their daily routines, and even overhearing them talking about trivial things contributes to the feeling of a truly vibrant world.
And exactly this feeling was wanted in Guild Wars 2, and they have succeeded. Thousands of voiced NPCs now provide a lively world in GW2, and if one wishes, they can even chase Charr children playing tag all around Lion’s Arch just to see who wins.
This vibrant world was then further brought to the forefront in Season 1 of the “Living World”, as the story events in this episode changed the entire world of the MMORPG. Lion’s Arch, the starting point of GW2 and one of the largest cities in the game, was completely destroyed by Scarlet and was inaccessible to all players for a long time.
However, since this was simply impractical for everyone who started with the game later, they deviated from this concept after Living World 1. Nevertheless, a large world remains with countless NPCs and hundreds of fully voiced quests, which also turned out to be a problem.
Scarlet changed the world in the early days of Guild Wars 2
Too much dialogue: Because this vibrant world with all its dialogues took a lot of time. In one language alone, the base game Guild Wars 2 had over 90,000 spoken lines of dialogue. This then had to be translated into several languages and re-recorded.
Especially at the beginning, this posed problems for the developers. But over time, they learned to deal with it. They even created a technical possibility that dialogues can be integrated into the gameplay.
While at the start of GW2, all dialogues took place in small cutscenes, now your player character can speak with other NPCs in the open world and even turns their head to the character that is currently speaking. A small detail for many, yet it contributes to making the entire MMORPG feel more alive. For the same reason, by the way, one can today sit on chairs in the world. This was not possible at launch.
Meanwhile, thanks to the removal of technical limitations, there are over 200,000 lines of spoken dialogue in Guild Wars 2 and its expansions. And that is only in English.
Mounts and capes were never supposed to exist
Technical limitations forbade capes: The same went for capes in Guild Wars 2 for a long time. While today hundreds of players run around with fluttering capes, that was unthinkable for the developers for a long time, Aaron says.
It was not that ArenaNet did not want capes in the game. But if they were to be brought in, they had to be good. They did not want capes that clip through mounts and armor, but a nice way to customize their characters.
Aaron kept asking whether capes were finally possible, he animatedly recounts. Until a few years ago, the technical team finally said not “no” anymore, but “You know what, I think we could actually make capes.”
A similar story occurred with the mounts, which are today one of the highlights of Guild Wars 2.

Mounts are now a highlight: Aaron also recounts at the roundtable that mounts were never supposed to exist in Guild Wars 2. They simply did not fit. And besides, the technical limitations were too great to implement mounts the way they really wanted.
With the release of Path of Fire in 2017, it finally happened. The various mounts made their way into the MMORPG five years after release. Furthermore, they were so well received by the community that they are now considered one of the main highlights of Guild Wars 2.
Even outside their own community, the mounts in GW2 are admired. They rank among the best the genre has produced and shine through various uses and maximum freedom. Each mount is useful for different situations, and none is completely useless.
Only with the latest expansion, End of Dragons, even a mount for two players was introduced into the MMORPG. One can ride the enormous battle turtle while another player shoots from its cannons. It plays just as well as it sounds.
When we asked whether the horses also succumbed to the technical limitations to this day, the developers could only laugh. So it remains a mystery where the horses in Tyria have gone.
Steam release 10 years after launch – Also for the SteamDeck
Where does Guild Wars 2 stand today? After 10 years of Guild Wars 2, the MMORPG is one of the most popular representatives of its genre in Germany. Unfortunately, it is not possible to say exactly how many people play GW2. However, according to the developers, there are over 16 million registered accounts.
For the 10th anniversary, the game was also released on Steam, but can currently only reach an average of 4,650 players there. This is also because one cannot link their old account to the Steam version.
Play GW2 on the SteamDeck: The roundtable with the developers concludes with Bobby Stein showing us that Guild Wars 2 can even be played on the SteamDeck. While it has not been officially verified yet, it works well anyway.
The community has already uploaded various control templates that can be simply downloaded and used via Steam. We were able to play GW2 for a few minutes on the SteamDeck ourselves. And thus experience the game in a whole new way. For fans of controllers who are lucky enough to have snagged a SteamDeck, this is certainly a nice opportunity to experience Guild Wars 2 in a different way.

In the positive reviews, several players say that the game is better now and it is worth playing again. One player, rjhess6, writes: “Much better than at launch, worth playing now”.
