In Pokémon GO can completing battles in the PvP league take quite a while. However, some players may be pleased about a bug that significantly shortens it.
What is this bug? A user “bsobrun07” reports an interesting bug on the Pokémon GO subreddit. The user was apparently out and about as usual in the battle league and won a duel against another trainer. So far, so normal.
However, what happened after the victory was unusual: Instead of being able to report just one “Win”, the victory was counted hundreds of times. In his post on reddit, the user shares his diary entries from Pokémon GO, where the corresponding victory entry appears over and over again.
“I don’t really know what happened, but I had less than 200 Master League wins before this fight,” the user reports in his post. A screenshot of his Master League medal shows: He now has 325.
So instead of just being able to record one victory, over a hundred wins were counted on the user’s account. Why this error occurred is currently unknown. However, it is clear: This is not the first time it has appeared.

Battle League Shortcut Affected Several Users – They are Happy
Not the first case: For example, a user wrote just a few days ago that a match had lagged for him and while watching TV he absent-mindedly continued to tap on the screen. A little later, after the fight, he noticed that he had also been credited with about 70 wins (via reddit).
Another user also reported that he received numerous wins after a lagging match because he hadn’t paid further attention (via reddit).
In recent weeks, there have been several posts in the Pokémon GO community that depicted a similar error. One post in the “pokemongo” subreddit received particularly much attention:

Here, a user also shows that he received simply 100 wins after a single match in the battle league.
The exciting thing about this bug: It seems to count for both the battle league medal and the “Limited GO Battle League Research,” for which players can pick up a free ticket in the shop.
This research has a very long duration and rewards players in various stages for their victories in the battle league. There is always plenty of valuable stardust for 10 won matches – sometimes 1000, sometimes 1500, sometimes 2500. Additionally, there are items like TMs or balls for page completions.
Completing this research would normally take hours, for example, if aiming for 100 wins. Players who were affected by the bug could instead enjoy the rewards in a very short time.

Everyone needs passwords in their everyday life. A group of researchers now explains that most codes are not as secure as you might think.
Pretty much everyone here probably uses passwords in their everyday life. Whether it is to unlock your computer or access social media or your bank account – such codes are found everywhere in daily life.
It is not surprising that many users hardly take the time for decent passwords. And this plays into the hands of hackers, as a group of security researchers has now found out.
Many passwords can be cracked in just a few minutes
What kind of report is this? Hive Systems is a security company specializing in cyber security and solutions against hacking. The company is based in Richmond, Virginia. In a detailed report, it is explained that many passwords are not as secure as some would assume.
Simply put: Hackers “crack” your passwords by creating a list of all character combinations on a keyboard and then hacking them. By finding matches between this list and the hashes of the stolen credentials, hackers can discover the correct password.
How quickly can passwords be solved? This entirely depends on how long and complex your password is. Passwords of 5, 6, or 7 characters can be solved in a few minutes and are no real barrier.
If you not only use uppercase and lowercase letters but also incorporate symbols, then the time increases significantly: A password of 10 characters, consisting of lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols takes at least 5 years. But what else should I consider?
Passwords under 10 characters remain insecure
How long should my password be?
If your code consists of less than 10 characters, it will be cracked in about 3 weeks.
From 10 characters, you can significantly extend the time, keeping hackers occupied for about 5 years.
Already with passwords of 11 characters, consisting of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols, hackers need about 400 years.
Furthermore, the researchers point out that users should refrain from using personal information in passwords: Things like your birthday, your wife’s name, or your place of birth can be quickly uncovered and should ideally be avoided. Especially if you want to secure your social media profiles with them.

The affixes in the new WoW week can be quite bad. We will tell you how to still look good in “Mythic+”.
As every Wednesday, a new week in World of Warcraft also began on January 11, 2023, and this means new challenges, especially for dungeon visitors on the “Mythic+” difficulty. Because players will face new affixes they need to deal with each week. We will reveal what those affixes are and how to make them a little easier.
Fortified – From level 2
Spiteful – From level 4
Grievous – From level 7
Thundering – From level 10
We have some tips and tricks to make your runs in the dungeons easier and how to deal with the corresponding affixes.
Fortified: Fortified ensures that all non-bosses have 20% additional health and deal 30% more damage. This bonus is in addition to the general buff that enemies have due to your keystone level. Basically, this means that in this week, the “trash mobs” are the bigger threat. You should pack more talents that improve your AoE abilities and allow you to take down multiple enemies at the same time. So-called “single-target DPS talents” are less in demand this week.
So that the healer doesn’t complain: go out of the fire more often.
Spiteful: When non-bosses are defeated, a spirit will rise from their corpse after a short delay. This spirit targets a random player (except the tank). The spirits automatically take damage every second and die after a few moments. However, they deal extremely high damage and can kill many characters in 2-3 hits at higher levels.
Depending on the group composition, it might make sense to simply keep the spirits in crowd control (CC) until they die on their own (roots, fear). Alternatively, you can stun them and take them out in an AoE fireworks display before they can deal serious damage.
Therefore, talents for crowd control are worthwhile, whether stuns, slows, or fear effects.
However, note that you count as “in combat” with the spirits. So if you want to mount up or your healer wants to drink before the next pull, you need to get rid of all spirits first. Then, it might make sense to kill the spirits quickly.
Grievous: Grievous is, in a broad sense, a “healer affix”, but you shouldn’t neglect it. Every time a player drops below 90% health, they are afflicted with the “Grievous Wound” debuff. This effect causes damage and additional stacks of the debuff are added, up to a maximum of 4 stacks. The “Grievous Wound” is removed when a player is fully healed. Additionally, 1 stack is removed every time the player receives a direct, non-periodic heal.
Especially in fights with a lot of area damage, the affix can become very unpleasant. Support your healers with smart defensive cooldowns, avoid taking damage more than usual, and, if in doubt, use a healing cooldown on yourself or injured colleagues.
This week, it is even more important to avoid negative effects, otherwise the healer won’t be able to keep up.

Thundering: This is the “signature affix” of the season and the same every week. Approximately every minute in combat, all players are afflicted with one of two debuffs – either a positive or a negative charge. For 15 seconds, all players with a debuff deal additional damage. However, when the debuff ends, the corresponding characters become stunned and take damage. Make sure to run into a player with the opposite charge just before the debuff expires to clear it. One player will be left behind – if they are the only one, this is not a problem, as they will not be stunned.
Note that immunities (Divine Shield, Ice Block) can also remove the debuff and might cause there not to be enough partners to remove enough debuffs.

With the release of the new patch 6.3 in Final Fantasy XIV, a new stylish outfit was also introduced to the game that you can easily obtain. We will briefly explain how to do this.
This is the outfit: The new clothing is an eastern outfit that was implemented with update 6.3. It consists of 5 pieces and can be worn by both male and female characters.

This is how you get the outfit: To obtain the Dogi, you simply need to follow the quest “Dizziness in the Ruby Sea”. You unlock it in Alt-Sharlayan (X:11.8 Y:9.8). It is part of the questline around Tataru’s Prosperity Workshop and sends you to Kugane, where you participate in a fun side story.
However, if you haven’t completed the necessary pre-quests, it will take a while. To make the quest accessible in Sharlayan, you need to:
Complete the pre-quest “Prosperity that Connects the World.” It is located in Alt-Sharlayan (X: 12 / Y: 10).
Complete the quests related to the 4 Beast Tribes. It is a long questline that includes 3 trial battles and many cutscenes. You find the starter quest “The Inner Demon” in the Ruby Sea (X: 6 / Y: 16).
If you have met all the prerequisites, you can calmly complete the quest. It contains no battles or instances. In the end, you can then collect your new outfit. Have fun with it!

Those who started playing Minecraft before 2019 are likely to remember the name Notch well. Notch is the Swede who created Minecraft all by himself. Nowadays, hardly anyone talks about the developer, and there is only a reference to him in Minecraft itself. What is Notch doing today?
This man created Minecraft: Markus Alexej “Notch” Persson is a developer from Sweden who released the first version of Minecraft in March 2009 – back then in the form of a private alpha that only invited testers could play.
Persson is said to have played his first video games and learned to program on his father’s Commodore 128 at the age of 7 or 8 (via gamedeveloper.com; now unreachable).
According to his statements, he got his first job as a game developer around 2005, back then at King.com (via YouTube). The site is primarily known for browser games that are usually just played in passing. The biggest hit of the studio is Candy Crush. Today, King belongs to Activision Blizzard.

Notch doesn’t want to be a CEO, sells Minecraft for 2.5 billion dollars
The launch of Minecraft: Minecraft started as a one-man project under the name “RubyDung” and Persson never expected a great success. At least, that was not the plan. He created Minecraft in his free time as a hobby.
In May 2009, Persson offered his project through an IRC channel and improved the game based on feedback from testers. In 2010, after enough sales, the Swede finally left his job behind and developed Minecraft full-time.
Minecraft became successful too quickly: As the French website jeuxvideo reports, PayPal froze Persson’s account in September 2010 when he suddenly had 600,000 euros to his name. He first had to justify that all of it came from Minecraft. The game cost 15 euros per copy at that time and soon reached over 1 million sales.
To support his project, Persson eventually founded Mojang, which is still responsible for Minecraft today, but belongs to Microsoft. Minecraft was finally released in November 2011 as a full version and has since become the most successful video game of all time.
With over 238 million copies sold, Minecraft stands far ahead (via Xbox.com), followed by the already distant GTA 5 with 170 million copies (via GamesIndustry.biz). The 1984 developed old game Tetris from the Soviet Union is said to have sold over 500 million units, but due to frequent changes of developers and versions, this number cannot be reliably verified.
How did Minecraft end up with Microsoft? In 2014, Persson announced that he no longer wanted to lead Mojang. In a post on his website, he wrote: “I am not an entrepreneur. I am not a CEO. I am a nerdy developer who likes to voice opinions on Twitter.” (via Archive.org)
Just months earlier, he had offered Mojang for sale – with a tweet. Several large companies reportedly applied for the strange offer, including Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, and Microsoft.
Microsoft eventually won the bid for a hefty 2.5 billion US dollars. The deal is still regarded as one of the largest in video game history and made Persson an instant billionaire.

Controversial opinions on Twitter lead to Notch’s downfall
What happened to Persson next: Persson supported charitable projects like Doctors Without Borders and together with Mojang the Humble Indie Bundle, for which the studio developed a game. This brought in over 450,000 US dollars at the time (via Eurogamer). After that, however, Persson withdrew from development.
In his farewell speech, Persson stated that he did not see himself as a game developer and had not created any noteworthy games since Minecraft. In 2015, Persson purchased a villa in Los Angeles for 70 million US dollars.
Shortly after, reports surfaced that the billionaire was unhappy. However, he denied this with the statement that he was just having a bad day and vented about it. Later, his tweets became noticeably stranger.
Where did the controversy come from? In the years following his separation from Mojang, Notch was very active on Twitter. After all, that’s something he enjoys doing, as he mentioned in his farewell to Minecraft. He still had a proud 3.6 million followers in January 2023.
However, he attracted attention here with controversial statements. Comments like: “It’s okay to be white,” “Most people who claim to be feminists are just excessively sexist against men,” or demands for a “Hetero-Pride-Day” were apparently poorly received (via TheMarySue).
He also made statements about conspiracy theories surrounding “Pizzagate” and QAnon (via DenOfGeek). Furthermore, he allegedly stated that trans women are not women and equated transgenderism with a mental illness (via Variety).
A particularly spicy dispute with another user on Twitter lasted for a while and reportedly involved transgender issues.
As a result of the debates, Notch was excluded from the celebration of Minecraft’s 10th anniversary. Microsoft went a step further.
Minecraft deletes (almost) all references to Notch
Until 2019, all versions of Minecraft still contained a reference to the original maker. Directly in the “Splash” when the game started, the phrases: “Made by Notch!” or “The Work of Notch!” could be found until then.
However, these were completely removed after the Twitter controversy. There is only a reference to the creator of Minecraft in the credits. Microsoft has never commented on this step, however.
Persson himself made a counterattack in 2021. After a crossover event of Minecraft with Sonic, the creator declared the game dead: “I don’t speak ill of the dead, but yes, Minecraft is a little dead. (If it still lives for you, cool! Rocket Arena 3 still lives for me as well.)” (via Twitter)

What Notch is doing today: After Notch temporarily deleted his Twitter account in 2020, he is now quite active again on the platform. He posts almost daily about video games or discusses various topics. Recently with quite bad puns about Christmas:

For the jungle role, there are numerous changes again. Junglers will receive an AI companion at the start of the game, jungle monsters have new aggro zones and further changes have been made to make it easier for newcomers to get started.
The Chemtech Dragon returns revamped. Just a few weeks after its introduction in Season 12, the Chemtech Dragon was removed from the game again due to various issues. Now it’s back and brings new elements into the game.
Additionally, various items have been revised, removed, or brought back.
For the start of the season, further balancing changes have already been announced. The exact patch notes have not yet been released. As soon as the official changes are public, we will update the article accordingly.
Riot employee Phlox has announced changes to champions, along with some buffs and nerfs to items. Champion Jax will also be “adjusted”, and the same applies to the tank item Jak’Sho, which is seen as far too strong by many in the community. However, we will only learn the details of the changes in the upcoming patch notes.
What happens to the rank? As in all previous seasons, the rank of all players will be reset at the start. However, not completely; a so-called “soft reset” takes place. This means you only lose part of your current rank. This prevents high and low-ranked players from being matched together at the start of the new season and yet everyone has to work their way back up the ranking.

The big TOTY event in FIFA 23 is approaching and the community has the opportunity to vote on the composition of the Team of the Year. But not everyone is satisfied with the selection of candidates.
What is the TOTY anyway? “TOTY” stands for “Team of the Year” and represents one of the biggest events of the year in Ultimate Team.
The event brings extremely upgraded cards of the best players from the past year into the game. But who the best players are is determined by the community. Anyone can vote in the big TOTY voting and decide who among the 100 nominees makes it into the Team of the Year.
However, some players have an issue with this. Important top stars are missing from the community among the 100 candidates selected by EA.
Ronaldo and other top stars are missing from the community
It is not surprising given Ronaldo’s performance in 2022, but still quite unusual: Cristiano Ronaldo is missing from the 100 nominated players for the TOTY in FUT 23. This is the first time since the introduction of the TOTY in FUT that the Portuguese superstar is not part of the candidates.
The end of an era, as Twitter user “macartneyyt” also notes:
“Breaking! Cristiano Ronaldo is not even a candidate for the Team of the Year. Crazy to think that Ronaldo will never receive a TOTY card again.”

But Ronaldo fans might still be lucky. First leaks show the introduction of completely new TOTY cards. According to the leak (via Twitter), they are called TOTY Icons. Maybe a way to bring a Ronaldo card into the game after all?

MSI invites 8 teams from the 4 major regions – Double-Elimination
These will be the changes at MSI:The MSI (Mid-Season-Invitational), in the middle of the year, will focus more strongly on the 4 major regions than before:
In 2023, 2 teams from the major regions will fly to MSI. 5 of these 8 teams are directly qualified for the main tournament: both teams from Korea and the champions of the other 3 regions. South Korea receives the extra spot because they became world champions in 2022.
The 3 other teams from the major regions and 5 teams from smaller regions must fight their way into the tournament in a preliminary round. 3 teams from these 8 will reach the playoffs
This is what the play-in phase of the MSI looks like.
In the playoffs, 8 teams will compete against each other in a “Double-Elimination” system. There will be a “Loser’s Bracket.” This had never been seen before at an international tournament in LoL.
This will be how the main round of the MSI looks.
What does this mean? The MSI will place a stronger focus on the 4 major regions and, as a result, should offer more series between the absolute top stars in the main round.
Bonus match USA vs. Europe and the complex Swiss system at the Worlds
This is how the Worlds are changing: The Worlds will get another preliminary round: The 4th team from the LEC will duel with the fourth-best team from the LCS in a Best-of-5 series for a spot at the Worlds. This apparently aims to fulfill the fans’ desire for more frequent matchups between the USA and Europe.
The “Play-In Stage,” where weaker teams compete for the right to be at the Worlds, will be completely revamped.
Previously, there were group matches; in 2023 there will be Best-of-Three series.
The main round of the Worlds was previously played in groups; this will also change completely.
