The new expansion Witch Queen has also enabled access to interesting exotic weapons in Destiny 2. The next desirable weapon exotic is the All-in-One grenade launcher Dead Messenger. MeinMMO tells you how to get it and especially where to find the catalyst.
In Destiny 2, Guardians are currently quickly scoring the new weapons from the Throne World and are completely immersed in the exciting content. So it’s no wonder that you already see many players playing in the Throne World with the new exotic weapons. The first exotic was available directly in the season pass. Other weapons became available after completing the grand and impressive “Witch Queen” campaign through various quests.
These exotics have already been used by players:
- “Big Overture” was available for season pass holders at rank 1, for everyone else at rank 35.
- “Osteo Striga” is received by those who complete the Witch Queen campaign. This unlocks a blueprint in the “Crafting Menu” in the Enclave. If you have extracted enough materials, you can craft the weapon yourself.
- You also receive the exotic grenade launcher Parasite only after completing the campaign. After that, Ikora will give you the quest “Of Queens and Worms”.
What has been discovered now? Meanwhile, the first Guardians have already discovered and unlocked the fourth exotic weapon. The 1-shot grenade launcher “Dead Messenger” in stylish rainbow-like oil puddle design.
After that, the next weapon exotic is likely waiting for you in the new Witch Queen raid “The Oath of the Apprentice” . This starts on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 7 PM.
What makes the weapon Dead Messenger so special? This weapon, besides Parasite, is another exotic grenade launcher. It belongs to the season of the Reclaimed and has a few clever special abilities.
- Trinary View: When firing and upon impact, the weapon unleashes a wall of three energy waves that obliterate everything within range as soon as they hit the ground.
- The Basics: The perk allows you to change the energy type (Solar, Arc, or Void) of the weapon flexibly, similar to Hard Light.

How to obtain the weapon exotic Dead Messenger in Destiny 2
Who can earn the weapon? Only season pass holders can enjoy this new exotic. All other players do not have access to it.
How do I get the exotic weapon quest? To get started, you must play the introduction to season 16 “Growing Tensions”. You receive it during your first visit to Ikora Rey in the Enclave.
After that, there are several mission steps to complete. When visiting the H.E.L.M., you will then receive a new quest at the War Table named “Operation Elbrus”. It is something you can only complete over several weeks.
The good news is that you won’t have to wait until the end of the quest to get the exo-weapon quest for “Dead Messenger”.
The quest progression is self-explanatory and you simply complete the first six steps of “Operation Elbrus” until you can speak with Lord Saladin at the War Table. In the further course, you will then receive the exotic quest “Death for the Messenger” from Empress Caiatl in the H.E.L.M., granting you access to the mission “Vox Obscura”.
Complete the exotic mission “Vox Obscura”
With the mission in tow, your path now leads you to a bunker on Mars. From there, psionic anti-Caiatl propaganda is spread.
- The activity has a power level requirement of 1550.
- Use the artifact mods, as you will encounter unstoppable champions during the mission.
- You will also find a few special mechanics that need to be cracked.
- You will receive the exotic at the end of the “Vox Obscura” mission from the loot chest.
The mission is definitely enjoyable. The well-known PvE player Esoterikk has already completed “Vox Obscura” – and of course solo.
Get the Masterwork Catalyst for Dead Messenger
We can already tell you that there is a catalyst for the grenade launcher Dead Messenger. This adds the perk “Turnabout”. However, it is currently time-gated – so not yet available.
When can you earn the catalyst? You will likely be able to grab the catalyst already next week, on March 1, during the weekly reset at 6 PM.
What makes the catalyst better?
- The catalyst activates when you break the shield of an enemy or a opposing Guardian while they are using their Super.
- The weapon then grants you a handy overshield, thereby providing more protection.
How do you obtain the catalyst? Similar to the old exotic missions, for example for “Tale of a Dead One”, you receive the catalyst when you complete the mission “Vox Obscura” again, but on the higher difficulty “Grandmaster”. Whether there is a time limit here is still unknown.
