Should exclusive skins in Overwatch really remain exclusive? Or is it good if they become more accessible?
Overwatch, Blizzard’s hero shooter, has been around for a little over a year now. In a few days, the Summer Games will return on August 8, 2017. With that, many skins that were available last year will also be back. Even better: This time the skins can even be purchased with credits – last year this was not possible.
The “old” skins from 2016 are even available at a reduced price. Only the new skins have “event prices” – meaning the regular credit costs multiplied by 3.
However, on Reddit and in the official forum, the announcement is received mixed.
Should event skins remain exclusive?
A (at least loud) part of the players believes that their skins lose exclusivity when everyone gains access to them again. They earned or bought these skins last year with the assumption that the skins would remain exclusive. They feel “cheated”, even though Blizzard never said that the Summer Games would be a one-time event.
Other players, on the other hand, are happy to finally have a second chance at the skins they couldn’t get the first time. Many players particularly miss “Swiss Mercy”.
Newcomers who only started playing Overwatch after the Summer Games in 2016 feel similarly. They had no chance at all and are now looking forward to earning a huge range of new skins, emotes, and highlight intros that had been locked for them since they bought the game.
