A new milestone for Blizzard’s team shooter: The developers boast about 30 million players in Overwatch and thank the community.
Overwatch is a shooter from Blizzard that is well received by gamers around the world. That Blizzard is proud of the high player numbers and the large community was recently shown with a tweet revealing the player count: There are already more than 30 million players in Overwatch. A rapid increase when comparing this announcement with the figures from January.
As big as Destiny and Rocket League
With this high number of players, Overwatch now sits in the same boat as Rocket League and Destiny, both of which have also reached this milestone. Overwatch is therefore a worthy competitor in the online multiplayer games landscape and can definitely take on other popular titles.
About 5 million new players in just three months is a remarkable growth. At the end of January, Blizzard stated that the shooter has more than 25 million players . Considering that Overwatch has only been available since May 24, 2016, making it not quite a year old, the achieved 30,000,000 players is a milestone that the team rightfully celebrates.
It is important to note that this does not refer to 30 million sold copies of the game, as for example in Korea, the game is free (You pay for the playing time in internet cafes). It is possible that registered accounts that can play the game for free are included in the 30 million. Additionally, there are players who own multiple versions of the game – unique players are therefore not necessarily meant here. How exactly these 30 million players are composed remains Blizzard’s secret.
