Is Junkrat from Overwatch fit to be a TV star? At least in the latest episode of Agents of SHIELD, he made a quasi-appearance.
The numerous heroes of Overwatch have some lines that stick quickly in your mind. Who doesn’t immediately recall Mei’s “A-Mei-Zing!” or Pharah’s “Justice Rains from Above!” – both clearly lines that you would instantly assign to these characters. However, a completely different hero has now achieved television fame: Junkrat.
In the current season of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”, a Marvel series, much revolves around a master of explosions. And those who listened closely could notice some lines that were taken 1:1 from Junkrat in Overwatch.
The YouTuber CherryTF has compiled the “borrowed” lines into a video, making the parallels clearer.
Matt Owens, the writer behind the episode, has now even confirmed these references.
“I can confirm these allusions. I also borrowed a few from Tracer for Simmons. But only small ones, as her lines would be too obvious to slip in secretly. Long live the crossovers!”
But beyond the lines, there are more parallels between “James” and Junkrat. For instance, James throws around an object that looks quite a bit like Junkrat’s ammunition. Furthermore, Junkrat’s “real” name is actually “Jamison Fawkes” – so essentially James.
Why Owens included these allusions was also revealed:
“Procrastinating with Overwatch is a big part of my writing process.”
Cortyn says: Hey, at least the last sentence sounds familiar to me. In general, I would love a typical “superhero” movie with the Overwatch characters. But no, that will probably remain a dream for a long time. And even if something like that ever were to come, it would probably be 5-6 years too late.
