The latest Overwatch patch has declared war on cheaters. Many aimbots no longer work due to a simple color trick.
The fight against fraudsters and cheaters in online games is often exhausting, and most of the time, one feels that the developers of cheat software are always one or two steps ahead of the game manufacturers.
The latest patch of Overwatch (1.12 / 2.14) delivers a significant blow against cheating software, which is largely from the Korean region. Many aimbots utilize the RGB code of the outlines of the opposing heroes – namely the “red outline” on enemies – to pinpoint their exact location. This is then used to position the crosshair precisely over the enemy’s head.
Wrong colors confuse aimbots
The latest patch now includes a change. The color around the opposing heroes is slightly adjusted and altered in every match. These differences are not perceptible to the human eye, yet most aimbots struggle with a modified spectrum and numerous errors occur.
Furthermore, the exact width of the outline lines is also slightly changed, resulting in further fluctuations.
For honest players, nothing changes at all. The changes are essentially invisible and so minimal that only computer programs react to them – such as forbidden aimbots or other cheat software.
In recent months, Blizzard has intensified its efforts against fraudsters and hacks from South Korea. PC bangs, the equivalent of internet cafes, have already been significantly restricted. Koreans can now only create a single Overwatch account and must log in with it instead of using “public” accounts as they did previously.
