Even though the world of The Boys is full of villains, not every Supe is a secret rogue plotting for world domination. One of Butcher’s best allies has, however, turned into the villain in the series and particularly stresses one main character.
Butcher and Co. have to deal with many Supes in The Boys who abuse their powers. But there are also a few who actually carry the spirit of a hero and help them. The most well-known representative is probably Starlight.
One of their biggest allies has, however, been changed in the series and is one of the villains: Love Sausage. Although they share the name, he is portrayed quite differently in the comic source material by Garth Ennis.
A good colleague of Butcher and Co.
Who is Love Sausage in the comics? His real name is Vasilii Vorishikin, and he is a Russian ex-superhero from the team Glorious Five Year Plan. Early in the comics, Butcher relies on this contact for a mission in Russia to act against Little Nina, who collaborates with Vought.
Love Sausage closely resembles the Marvel hero Red Guardian, who is also not exactly the poster hero. In the films Thunderbolts and Black Widow, he is portrayed by David Harbour. Unlike his series counterpart, he does not have a special ability but possesses the three basics: superhuman endurance, strength, and speed.
The bar of Love Sausage serves as their base, and in fact, the vodka from Love Sausage saves the Boys from death. As Hughie and Love Sausage get drunk, an assassin’s poison fails to work, and they save their squad.
Later in the story, he also helps the Boys in their fight against the powerful Supe Stormfront (in the comics, he is a man). However, he later dies in the comics after Butcher begins to kill all Supes on Earth.
The series has taken Love Sausage very literally
What makes the series’ Love Sausage? In the series, Love Sausage is first introduced in Season 2, at the Sage Grove Center. This is a closed clinic where Vought conducts crude experiments to give Compound V to adults as well.
So one can assume that the Supe also gained his powers in this clinic. Unlike his comic counterpart, however, in the series, one of his abilities is his long genitals, with which he can beat or choke people.
In the series, he is a villain and essentially the arch-nemesis of Mother’s Milk. Love Sausage’s last appearance is in the first episode of Season 5. There, he is one of the guards of the Freedom Camp, where MM, Frenchie, and Hughie are imprisoned. When the breakout occurs, he fights against Mother’s Milk, who ultimately chokes him with his own genitals.
In the series, Love Sausage is portrayed by Derek Johns, who has two approaches when people ask him about his role. On TikTok, he explains that for those who know The Boys, he simply says he is Love Sausage or the penis guy
if they don’t know the name. If someone hasn’t seen The Boys, he simply says without much explanation that he plays a superhero.
The Boys changes some things from the source material in the Amazon series. That’s not surprising, as some characters and groups are even worse than one can imagine in the series: Against a villainous group in The Boys, even Homelander seems friendly like Superman
