The Boys has many absurd characters, but the comics take it to another level. One Supe was apparently so exaggerated that they didn’t include him even in 5 seasons – yet he is particularly important for Hughie.
The Amazon series of The Boys adapts the comics by Garth Ennis. Instead of sticking strictly to the story, the series loosely uses the world and interprets the characters in its own way – often surpassing the comics. To tell a coherent story, not every character is included.
For example, a member of the Seven was replaced. But that’s not the only case. Queen Maeve actually had a son in The Boys, with whom Hughie clashed twice. However, if you look at Blarney Cock, you probably understand why he is absent.
Hughie’s First Mission
Who is Blarney Cock? In the comics, Blarney Cock is a member of the Teenage Kix. He is the child of Queen Maeve and The Legend, who in the series was the Senior Vice President of Hero Management at Vought. It is publicly unknown that Blarney is the son of Queen Maeve since she put him in a Vought orphanage. Apart from flying and super strength, he has no special abilities.
You get to know him early in the comics, during Hughie’s first mission with Butcher and Co. There is a fight with the Teenage Kix, during which Hughie accidentally kills Blarney. Just before that, Butcher had infected Hughie with Compound V, giving him super strength. In the course of the fight, Hughie finds a hamster that was in Blarney and takes it with him.
However, that wasn’t the end for Blarney. Comic-Vought can revive dead Supes with Compound V, but they are only comparable to zombies. They are alive, but cannot speak or act humanely. This also happens with Blarney Cock.
One day, he suddenly appears at Hughie’s home to retrieve his hamster. Blarney seems to realize that Hughie killed him. Hughie even apologizes tearfully until Blarney tries to grab the hamster. In doing so, he ultimately kills him.
Could Blarney Cock still appear? The series isn’t finished yet, but it’s still quite unlikely. The Teenage Kix were introduced in the 2nd episode of season 5, but without Blarney or a character resembling him.
Furthermore, it wouldn’t fit Queen Maeve’s character in the series to have a son. Aside from that, Ryan is always portrayed as the only born
Supe, which would be denied by Blarney Cock. Also, thematically he does not fit into the series, which also uses the Supes as social criticism. Blarney is just a joke in the comics, with hardly any substance.
One shouldn’t completely rule it out, as more spin-offs are said to be coming. However, such a character probably wouldn’t fit into the upcoming finale. Before the end, even the showrunner of the series is afraid: The creator of The Boys defends Game of Thrones, fears for his own finale
