In Pokémon GO it is not that easy to get a route unlocked. The community is now discussing a particularly irritating route that has been unlocked.
What are routes? Routes are a feature in Pokémon GO where trainers can submit interesting paths as a route. If these are approved by Niantic, trainers can then follow them and meet among other things the new NPC Mateo.
Getting a route approved is not that easy. Niantic wants to have only high-quality routes in the game. This leads to many submitted routes not being checked for weeks and then being rejected.
What kind of route is the community currently amused about? A route that likely meets Niantic’s quality standards and was found by a trainer in the game is currently causing confusion and laughter. This route does not lead past beautiful nature, landmarks, or interesting points – but rather through a grocery store.

That it is not that easy to get routes approved is confirmed by another comment: Nevertheless, I have been trying to get an approval since August
