In a Twitch stream, Maximilian “HandOfBlood” Knabe tried out a horror game with his colleagues. The gameplay had a special twist that scared the three players quite a bit.
What kind of game is this? The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in games is often discussed. But the horror game Mimesis has found a particularly creepy way to integrate AI into its gameplay: It mimics you and your teammates.
Up to 4 players can play this horror survival game together. During the day, the goal is to gather resources to secure your survival and get a tram running again. You need the tram to escape to the next areas.
At night it rains. You must protect yourself from the rain because it robs you of your identity and turns you into creepy beings. These beings look like your characters and sound like them, as they imitate your voices.
But as soon as you turn your back on one of these beings, they will kill you. So you always have to be on guard about who you are playing with: a human or an imitation?
HandOfBlood does not know what to expect
How does HandOfBlood find the game? This experience and the gameplay is faced by the Twitch streamer HandOfBlood together with his Twitch colleagues Jennifer “JenNyan”, Michael “Kapuzenwurm” Dorror, and Leon from “Bonjwa”. The special thing about their gameplay: None of them know that skinwalkers may be among them.
So the surprise is even greater when the first imitators appear and speak with the voices of their teammates. HandOfBlood states in the intro to his YouTube video: “We just blindly started this game, and it took us apart. It became hilarious. (…) No game in this world has taken me by surprise like this at the beginning. It was very, very cool.”
The word “Güldisch” seems to have particularly fascinated the AI, as it imitates this term from HandOfBlood:
Finally, HandOfBlood also enjoys pretending to be a skinwalker. He repeatedly utters the same phrases and wanders aimlessly, as if he were a bot. This adds to the confusion among his teammates.
The Twitch streamers set an additional rule that if they hit someone, they are not allowed to jump or use an emote to prove they are the real ones. They should only convince each other with their voices, to make the game more challenging.
The game not only creates creepy moments, it can also be very funny due to the peculiar items. HandOfBlood concludes that the game is perfect for streaming to provide light-hearted fun.
HandOfBlood is known for trying out various games, even if they are smaller indie titles. The game Megabonk was also well received by the Twitch streamer: HandOfBlood praises a new action game on Steam that is so successful that it sold 1 million copies in just 2 weeks
