Soon you will be able to play the demo for a new action RPG on Steam which throws you into a completely destructible game world and is likely to be particularly interesting for Diablo fans.
Which game is being referred to? This refers to Darkhaven. The action RPG is being developed by Moonbeast Productions and has now been announced with a gameplay trailer. A playable demo should be available on Steam in February.
Why should the game be interesting for Diablo fans? Darkhaven sends you into a dark fantasy world that immediately reminds you of the Diablo series. Even more: Many former Blizzard developers who have worked on the games are behind this project.
One of these developers is Erich Schaefer, the former art director of Diablo and former project lead of Diablo 2. He was responsible for the design of the old Diablo games, which fans still love today.

A “Diablo” with a completely destructible game world
What makes the game special? Darkhaven does one thing very differently than Diablo and other ARPGs, namely concerning the game world. It’s not just a backdrop where you walk from A to B while slaying enemies, but part of the action.
The game world of Darkhaven is completely procedurally generated and reacts dynamically to what you do: If you attack a piece of rock or a wall, you destroy it. Some powerful attacks even blow the ground from under your feet and create craters.
This interaction with the game world can be used to your advantage. For example, you can carve out new paths through walls. Or, you can let a lava field cool down by redirecting water from a nearby source to it.
Although the environments are generated, they are not meant to be conventional “corridor” levels. You explore an open world that is designed to feel seamless and you navigate not only on the ground but also swim, climb, jump, and even glide through the world.
