This week, you could rack up a crazy amount of XP in Pokémon GO. Our author Max used it for his best throw of all time. But there was still more to get.
Pokémon GO celebrated its anniversary and announced an event during which you could collect ten times the amount of XP for catching Pokémon. With good planning, there was the opportunity to rack up a ton of XP with a single throw.
And that’s exactly what I did: I wanted to maintain my 7-day streak so that it would count for the tenfold event. Additionally, I had my eye on a new Pokémon and wanted to throw well. Did it work out? Well! Check it out here – my result:
Let’s look at the XP distribution:
- I used a Lucky Egg, which doubles all XP.
- For the catch, I received 1,000 XP, so with the egg, 2,000.
- The first catch of the day got me 15,000, so 30,000.
- The streak bonus brought a total of 120,000 XP!
- And the Curveball added another 400.
In total, I earned 152,400 XP for my best throw in over 8 years of Pokémon GO, and I actually think that’s really cool.
But there could have been even more.
How could I have made my throw even better?
There are some points I wanted to improve but didn’t manage to.
- New Pokémon: That would have brought another 2,000 XP. I also thought I didn’t have a Shuppet, which I caught that morning from the GO Pass – at least none was in my collection, and it was only displayed as a shadow. But that was probably due to the special coin it carried during the event, and I must have caught Shuppet before. Oh well!
- Wonderful throw: That would have been another 20,000. I just didn’t throw well enough, unfortunately.
- First throw: If Shuppet had stayed in on the first try, I would have received another 1,000 XP. But it didn’t.
- Additionally, there are bonuses for active Mega Evolutions or the Catch Expert if you sneak up on the Pokémon in AR mode. But I simply didn’t do that.
How to really do it right was recently shown by user 22lava44 in the Pokémon GO subreddit. They managed to get a total of 181,500 XP with a single throw. You can find the post on Reddit here.
Overall, I’m happy that the 7-day streak worked – because in between, I almost forgot to catch my daily Pokémon. But since the conditions for a throw with over 180,000 XP were possible, I’m still a bit dissatisfied. Oh well – next time!
