In Monster Hunter Wilds you need to catch Escunites or Wapponites for a quest, but they are very rare, especially the large, glowing specimens. We show you an effective method to farm them.
What do I need Wapponit for? In the base camp of the Crimson Forest, you will find the NPC “Kanya”, who has a passion for fishing. She will introduce you to the basics of fishing and will eventually send you on a side quest to catch her a large Wapponit. This is easier said than done, as this aquatic creature is hard to find and, above all, very rare.
Finding and farming Wapponit
Where do I find Wapponit? You can find Wapponit in limestone caves in the Crimson Forest and in the surrounding lakes. These limestone caves are hidden behind waterfalls that you can easily pass. We recommend two locations if you want to find Wapponit:
- North of Area 12 behind the waterfall at the marked spot
- North of Area 8 behind the waterfall at two marked spots
How do I farm Wapponit? If you want to get Wapponit quickly, you should choose the farming spot at area 8. Go into the limestone cave and discover the location of the field camp “Underground Lake”. Here you should set up a field camp.
Now you can quickly travel there to fish for Wapponit. However, since this sea creature is rare, you probably won’t encounter it on your first visit. Feel free to check both locations in Area 8. If there is no Wapponit available, you can fast travel to another location to reset the area.
You can recognize Wapponit by its appearance resembling an ammonite, a prehistoric snail with tentacles. There are two types: the normal ones that do not glow and the large ones that glow bluish.
For the quest, you should ideally catch the Escunites with a fishing rod, but once you have completed this, you can also use your net and shoot at the respective Wapponit from a distance. This makes catching the sea creatures and fish much faster. The bait is irrelevant for fishing Wapponit; you just need to be able to use it.
To do this, pull the bait back and forth to imitate wave-like movement patterns. Do this slowly and episodically, not quickly one after the other. Wapponites like to take their time, so you will probably need to cast your bait several times and play with it until one bites.
