Mimikyu had a much-anticipated release in Pokémon GO. However, the Pokémon is not allowed to battle – it would be really strong.
Where is Mimikyu banned? Currently, Mimikyu is banned from any kind of battle in Pokémon GO. Initially, it could still be used against Team GO Rocket, but even there Mimikyu is no longer allowed to participate.
What does Niantic say about this? In the announcement for the release event around Mimikyu, a paragraph was added addressing the issue. It states:
At first, you cannot use Mimikyu in battle. But beware, as this could change in the future – and Mimikyu could unexpectedly turn your strategy upside down! Stay tuned, as more information about battling with Mimikyu will follow soon.

So we can only hope that you can indeed use your Mimikyu in battles. As soon as that is the case, we will keep you updated here!
How strong would Mimikyu be in Pokémon GO?
This is Mimikyu: Mimikyu is a Ghost-Fairy Pokémon that disguises itself as Pikachu with rags. These rags give it a special ability: Mimikyu essentially has a free shield in battles.
This is how strong Mimikyu would be in battle: As it currently stands, Mimikyu would be an extremely strong Pokémon for the Great and Ultra Leagues. In an analysis, the PvP expert JRE47 concludes in the Pokémon GO subreddit that Mimikyu not only offers a strong type combination but would be an outstanding Pokémon due to its special ability. JRE47 even mentions an 80% win rate in the Great League. But currently, that’s just not possible.
Only in the Master League would Mimikyu likely be lost. It just can’t gather enough CP.
What’s next in Pokémon GO? The Shockingly good time
, during which Mimikyu debuted, is now over. But the next event is already just around the corner: This coming weekend, you can look forward to the Community Day with Forgita. There are also more dates on the calendar that bring Pokémon and bonuses. What are they? You can read about them in our overview of all events in April 2026 in Pokémon GO.
