Lies of P has been available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC since September 18 (Steam, Game Pass). After strong reviews from the press, however, the developers added the controversial copy protection Denuvo shortly before release. The program is hated among gamers.
What kind of game is this?
- In Lies of P, you play as a puppet of the famous inventor Gepetto codenamed “P” – obviously, this is Pinocchio.
- In the city of Krat, puppets were supposed to serve humans, but now they are running amok and have slaughtered almost the entire population. You need to ensure that the city doesn’t completely go under and must lie, something that puppets are typically neither allowed nor able to do.
- In doing so, you fight bosses and enemies in classic Souls style with various weapons and can level up to create your own builds.
Here’s how Lies of P is performing: On Steam, the game currently has a rating of 91% and is considered “very positive” (as of September 19). The reviews from the press on Metacritic are also impressive:
- 81 for the PS5 version
- 82 for the PC version
- 84 for the Xbox version
The colleagues from GameStar gave Lies of P an 82 in their review. Great praise was given for the intense boss fights, the parade system, and the beautiful game world. Deductions were made for the story and some frustrating parts.
GamePro even awards 83 points and praises the game design with various weapons as well as the extensive content with different playstyles, campaign, and New Game+. Criticism is directed at the steep learning curve, somewhat repetitive visual content, and the lack of coop.
In the community, it is often said that Lies of P is the Soulslike that comes closest to Bloodborne on PC. The dark, Victorian setting of Bloodborne distinguishes this entry from all other Soulsborne games, and Lies of P seems to capture this theme well.

Developers add Denuvo 3 days before release
As the tracking site SteamDB details, Denuvo was added as copy protection to Lies of P at least in the Steam version on September 15. This change was not communicated in advance by the developers and came after the embargo for reviews was lifted.
Denuvo theoretically ensures that games cannot be pirated. In practice, however, it often leads to problems. GameStar, for example, has already shown that the program itself can throttle even powerful systems.
In general, Denuvo ensures that many users experience games and even entire systems running less smoothly. Consequently, gamers are quite upset when the program is used, as earlier reports have shown:
Why exactly Developer NEOWIZ decided to use Denuvo and did not communicate it beforehand has not yet been revealed. MeinMMO has inquired, and a response is still pending.
