LEGO is voting on the next official Pokémon set. The finalists look really stylish, but as soon as the price is announced, many fans might be disappointed. Because already with the first sets, LEGO has shown that Pokémon is not a cheap brand.
What kind of action is this? LEGO offers the opportunity to submit your own set creations through its Ideas platform. The set with the most community upvotes will have the chance to become a real official LEGO set that you can then buy in the official shop.
Currently, there is an action on “Pokémon Trading Cards” directly on Ideas.Lego.com and 5 different sets are in the final selection. One of them will eventually become an official set. This is called the “Grand Prize Selection.”
By the way, the selection includes a set with Rowlet, Electrike, Mew, Arceus, and one with Gyarados.
A stylish set, but the price could spoil many fans’ fun
What will it cost? So far, we know nothing about it, but the set is unlikely to be cheap. With the high prices of the first official Pokémon sets, LEGO has already scared away many players:
- For the large set around Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise, 649.99 euros will be required.
- For the smaller Pikachu set, you’ll have to pay “only” 200 euros.
- For the smallest set around Eevee, the price is around 60 euros.
In addition, the prices of these sets are usually quite stable, as these sets are sold exclusively in the LEGO store and major discount events are rather rare.
When comparing other fan creations that make it to the official LEGO shop under the tag “Ideas”, such as “The Botanical Garden”, the pricing policy there doesn’t look much better: For the botanical garden, you pay 329.99 euros. For the new “Ideas” set on the topic of Pokémon, it is likely to be hardly different in the end.
But LEGO fans among us have long known that you have to be brave when it comes to the prices of the Danish manufacturer. Especially in light of the ever-increasing prices, many fans will probably think twice about whether they will really buy such an expensive set.
However, you don’t have to spend much if you want to buy great building block sets. Other manufacturers have been showing for a long time that their sets can easily compete with LEGO and in some cases are even significantly better.
