With Vampire Survivors, the small indie developer poncle had a real surprise hit on Steam, even though the title was still in Early Access until the end. Now the Roguelite celebrates its official release and brings new content with the 1.0 update.
Which game is it about? Vampire Survivors is a popular indie game on Steam. The Roguelite relies on a retro style and costs less than 5 €. Nevertheless, it can excite numerous players.
Out of a total of 126,000 reviews, a strong 98% are positive (via Steam). Current player numbers are also very solid with nearly 21,600 concurrent players (as of October 21, 11:30 AM via SteamCharts).
When is the official release? The official release of Vampire Survivors was on October 20, 2022, bringing the 1.0 update. Previously, the title had been available in Early Access since December 17, 2021.
Retro graphics meets Roguelite
What is the game about? Vampire Survivors offers more than just pixel graphics. The title describes itself as a gothic horror game with Roguelite elements.
You take on one of the various characters, fight against monsters approaching from all sides on an open field, and try to survive for 30 minutes. Along the way, you collect experience points and level up your character, which you control using the WASD keys.
In each new attempt, you can equip your character with different items, each having a different effect. This increases the replay value of the game, as you can tackle a map in different ways.
New modes and Twitch integration
What does the new update bring? The new 1.0 update of Vampire Survivors not only brings the official release but also some new content. This includes 4 new achievements and new skins, as well as a new weapon, a new event stage, a Twitch integration, and 2 new modes: the Inverse Mode and the Endless Mode.
The Inverse Mode: On Steam, poncle provides the following information about the Inverse Mode:
- The layout of the stages is flipped (can be disabled in options), and there are minor visual changes depending on the stage.
- Gold earnings are increased by 200%. There is a luck bonus of 20%.
- Enemies start with +200% maximum health points.
- Enemies gain 5% maximum health points every minute and 1% movement speed every 2 minutes.
- The merchant offers the following products: Skip, Banish, and Reroll, as well as 1 additional Arcana.
The Endless Mode: On Steam, poncle provides the following information about the Endless Mode:
- The Reaper will not spawn in the last minute.
- When the last minute of a section is reached, enemy waves start again at minute 0, completing a “cycle”.
- Enemies receive 100% of their maximum base health per cycle.
- The frequency and number of enemies spawning per cycle is increased by 50%.
- Enemies deal 25% more damage per cycle. The maximum damage cap for the player is reduced by 1 per cycle.
- The merchant respawns at each cycle and sells “+1 resurrection” instead of golden eggs.

The Twitch chat can influence the game
The Twitch integration: Another exciting new feature introduced with the update is the so-called Twitch integration. A feature that should be particularly interesting for you if you often watch streams on Twitch or stream yourself.
With the Twitch integration, a streamer’s chat can make decisions for them and even trigger special in-game events. The Twitch integration can be activated in the settings.
