Al’ar’s Ash is one of the rarest mounts in World of Warcraft. But now you have a bonus chance for the mount.
There are many rare mounts in World of Warcraft that still evoke envy or wonder today. One of the first mounts of this kind is the Phoenix Al’ar, obtainable through the item “Ashes of Al’ar”. In fact, this is a very, very rare drop from Kael’thas Sunstrider in the raid “The Eye” – but there is now another source from which you can obtain the mount with a bit of luck.
What kind of mount is it? Al’ar’s Ash is still a unique and beautiful mount even today, more than a decade after its release. The orange-gold Phoenix from Kael’thas Sunstrider leaves red streaks in the sky and is still one of the most beautiful and rarest mounts.
There are many players who have tried for years to obtain this Phoenix and have never had any luck.
This is not surprising, as the drop chance is only 1.70% – and you only have one attempt per character per week.

How do you get the bonus chance? To do this, you need to make use of the “Timewalking: The Burning Crusade”. More specifically, you need to complete the quest “Disturbance Detected: Black Temple”. This is a mission that is only active during the corresponding Timewalking.
The quest requires you to defeat Illidan Stormrage during the Timewalking in the Black Temple – in its Timewalking variant. This means you need a (somewhat) capable group to tackle this raid in Timewalking.
While the raid is not particularly difficult and is significantly easier during Timewalking than it was at launch, you still need a raid group to have any chance. It’s best to check the “Looking for Group” channel to see if someone is trying to set up such a raid group – or just create your own.
You can pick up the quest directly in the Black Temple (entrance area) or in Shattrath.
Community is excited: In the World of Warcraft subreddit and in the comments on wowhead, the fact that you can now obtain Al’ar’s Ash from another source is praised. Many first thought it was a bug or that fellow players were “trolling” them by claiming that the Phoenix was obtainable from the Timewalking chest. However, there is now so much evidence that has confirmed this.
Have you also had such luck and obtained Al’ar’s Ash? Or is this mount still eluding you?
