In the new DLC for The Witcher 3, it finally revolves around the best character in the entire universe

The first journalists were allowed to play the new DLC for The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past. Now we finally know more about the technology and setting. This time, Geralt is going to the homeland of the best character in the universe.

First journalists were allowed to take a look at the new DLC for The Witcher 3. GameStar was also there and now we finally know more about Geralt’s new and probably last adventure:

With “Songs of the Past”, The Witcher 3 is likely to receive a remastered version with revamped abilities, new skills, and improved combat along with a graphics update. The setting this time is Letten, the homeland of the best character in the entire Witcher universe: Dandelion.

Who is Dandelion, actually?

Dandelion, originally named Jaskier, is a bard from the world of The Witcher. In the books, he and Geralt meet when Dandelion is fleeing from the angry brothers of a lady he got pregnant. The bard is quite a womanizer and tends to cross social boundaries.

Witchers and musicians experience many adventures together over the years and become good friends. At least in the Netflix series, Dandelion often serves as comic relief, but he is also a catalyst for many important events: Because he is cursed, Geralt seeks a magician and meets Yennefer. Geralt is persuaded to act as Dandelion’s bodyguard, and at the event, he is entrusted with ward Ciri by the Law of Surprise.

In The Witcher 3, Dandelion is the happy owner of an establishment in Novigrad, but he is also involved in the shady dealings of a certain Junior. Additionally, he participates in the travels and adventures of the now-adult Ciri.

Womanizer, bard, and best friend of a Witcher are not the only interesting things about Dandelion: he is also actually the Vicomte of Letten – in other words, a nobleman. And this past is likely to catch up with him in the new DLC.

Why is Dandelion important in “Songs of the Past”? In the new and probably last DLC for The Witcher 3, Geralt is pushed to Letten. There, at least according to the GameStar preview, a significant personality – possibly of noble descent – seems to have passed away. And this is likely somehow connected to Dandelion, who also hails from Letten:

He has gone missing. Why he returned to Letten remains a mystery. Perhaps it has to do with the deceased’s funeral. The preview also seemingly shows Dandelion’s grandmother, who definitely does not want to say a single word about the whole situation.

However, the Vicomte bard’s cousin Lilla stands by Geralt’s side: she accompanies the Witcher and wants to help him find Dandelion. Dimitry Halley of GameStar theorizes that she a) will become important in the plot of the DLC and b) could be a potential new romance.

Dandelion is the reason and trigger for Geralt even getting out of retirement. All for his best friend.

MeinMMO editor Sophia Weiß says: I’m really excited about this DLC! After “Blood and Wine”, I thought Geralt’s story was actually well concluded. A house in one of the most beautiful places in the world, (hopefully) a great woman by his side, and the greatest monsters all defeated or passed on to the next generation (see The Witcher 4).

But the fact that he returns from retirement for Dandelion makes me really happy: I loved Dandelion in The Witcher 3 and I am a big fan of him in the Netflix adaptation. More Dandelion is great because he’s truly the best character in the entire universe.

Besides being primarily comic relief, he is actually a well-rounded character with charm and a good heart. Unfortunately, he has the tendency to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and to cause Geralt trouble.

Overall, I find “Songs of the Past” very exciting because the DLC, according to the GameStar article, really takes place after the end of the main game and the other story expansions. We know how things continue a few years after The Witcher 3 in The Witcher 4: Ciri travels the world as a new Witcher. If CD Projekt Red is smart, “Songs of the Past” will bridge the story to the next installment. And I am certainly eager for that.

So, “Songs of the Past” really can’t come soon enough for me. Even though we still have to wait until 2027 for it. So enough time for a new round of The Witcher 3 from the beginning.
