Ruffy’s father appears only a few times in One Piece. A fan of the anime wondered if Ruffy and his dad ever lived together. Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the pirate adventure, has now answered this question.
Caution, spoiler: We will discuss here the identity of Ruffy’s father and why they have not met yet.
Who is Ruffy’s father? Ruffy’s father is Monkey D. Dragon. He is the leader of the Revolutionary Army and has little time for Ruffy. His grandfather brought him to Curly Dadan, a female bandit, who raised Ruffy as her foster son.
But even in the moments when Ruffy’s father could have had the chance to greet his son, he stayed in the background. Therefore, one might think that Dragon is a bad father. However, Eiichiro Oda clarifies why he left his son so early and severed the connection with him.

Why does Ruffy know nothing about his father? A fan was able to ask Oda the question of whether Ruffy and Dragon ever lived together. According to the mangaka, they did not live together at a time that Ruffy can remember. Therefore, his father must have left him early.
As the leader of the Revolutionary Army, he could not risk his relationship with Ruffy becoming known. He did not want to put Ruffy in danger and thus left the family. Oda wonders what it must have been like for Dragon to let go of his family and see Ruffy again in Logue Town.

What do we know so far about Dragon? At this point, we don’t know much about Dragon. Ruffy’s father was once a Marine soldier. However, he could not cope with the ideals of the Marines, which is why he decided to become a member of the Liberty Army and to found the Revolutionary Army.
There are rumors that Dragon has eaten a Devil Fruit that allows him to control the wind. When Ruffy fled Logue Town from Captain Smoker, suddenly a storm arose that helped the Straw Hats escape. However, this information has not yet been confirmed.
