Lost Ark is a complete MMORPG, even if it is often compared to Diablo. This MMO also includes many mechanics that you would normally find only in RPGs, including the essential flirting with the residents of the world. They give you money and, if you earn enough affection, come to your island with you.
What kind of mechanic is this? The mechanic that you need to flirt with characters in the world of Lost Ark greets you relatively early in the game. As soon as you have battled through the tutorial and reached the city of Prideholm, you will encounter the first NPCs.
Once you have completed the first main quests, you will meet two characters with whom you can initiate a romance. The tavern keeper Neria is the first one you meet.
In conversations with her and other characters with whom you can improve your relationship, you have two big boxes to choose from. One of them always starts the normal conversations or quest-related conversations, while the other, heart-shaped, initiates your flirts with the characters.
How does it work exactly? Shortly after your meeting with Neria, you will meet the bard Siera, the second character in Prideholm, with whom you can slowly get to know better. Even now, you can notice the differences between the two characters and that you need to do different things to get closer to them.
- You have to assure Neria that she cooks well. And you must prove that you really think so, because she can’t cook at all.
- For bard Siera, on the other hand, you have to perform a song or bring her her favorite flowers.
As you increase your level of familiarity with them, you can collect a reward. This also varies from NPC to NPC. Neria, in particular, is very worthwhile in the beginning, as she simply gives you 10,000 silver after a short time at the second level.
If you then reach another level of familiarity, you will also unlock new quests with the NPCs, where you can get to know them better. These tasks usually present exciting or funny stories and are richly detailed. So it is worth listening.
The characters in Arkesia who are open to your efforts are marked with a red heart on the minimap so you can find them directly.
Not only your wallet will benefit
What do the flirts bring? Improving relationships with various NPCs brings more than just filling your wallet. The items that the NPCs give you vary greatly.
In addition to the silver or gold you receive, you also obtain additional experience points, items to enhance your equipment, and items that support you in battle. But even apart from loot and levels, relationships offer you advantages.
Once you have charmed a person enough, you can offer the NPC to follow you to your island. Then you can find the character there and use them for your expeditions.
The various characters each bring different bonuses that they can provide on your island and contribute to your adventures. Additionally, there are even skins available for purchase that allow you to change the outfits of your new loved ones.
How much time do you need to invest? Since you can only perform the affection actions a total of 5 times a day, it takes quite a while for some NPCs to actually trust you.
Until then, you will need to give them a lot of gifts, play many songs for them, and do quite a bit for your NPC friends. But as previously mentioned, it’s worth the effort.
However, the daily limit makes it feel like it takes forever to win over some NPCs. While bard Siera in Prideholm will trust you completely after 10 days and come to your island, it takes a full 87 days for you to convince Ninav on the Whispering Islands.
With whom can you improve your relationship? At first, it may seem like you can only charm beautiful women and earn their trust, but this pattern is already broken in the second city.
There you can also flirt with men. But it doesn’t stop there. Throughout the story of Lost Ark, you will meet many NPCs with whom you can improve your relationship. This is not always about flirting, but often it is simply about trust.
For example, you can even win different animals as NPC companions. In total, you can build a relationship with 77 different characters in Lost Ark. Your island can get pretty crowded.
