Hytale has captivated many players since its release and is also on the minds of the mod community. Eager tinkerers have already managed to get well-known games and programs running within the software.
Hytale was released just about a week ago, on January 13, 2026, and already the modding community has the game on their radar, trying out various things.
In particular, mods that not only add or change elements in the game but actually bring entire games and programs to life through Hytale seem to be exciting. This is possible thanks to an easily modifiable server code provided by the developers at Hypixel Studios.
On the website hytalemodding.com, the modders emphasize that the game’s client cannot be changed yet, but it does not determine how the game and the UI look. That role belongs to the servers.
Already, the modders are showing what is possible. In addition to well-known games, an old operating system and Hytale itself can be started within the game.
With the Doomslayer through Hytale
What has been included in Hytale? It may sound strange, but it is indeed possible to launch the very first Doom from 1993 in Hytale. A video from the YouTube channel tr7zw shows what this looks like. Admittedly, it’s very pixelated, but essentially, you can recognize the game.
The user describes the experience as bumpy: “The controls work a bit like a broken keyboard, the code does not follow best practices at all, but it is enough to somewhat play the game.”
Other games like Minecraft have also been integrated into Hytale, which results in rather jerky outcomes, as you can see in a video on x.com. Another modder has already adapted the graphics of Hytale to those of Minecraft.
It gets particularly absurd when Hytale is launched within Hytale itself. Here too, the performance could handle some more FPS. The result in the video on x.com shows, however, that it is possible.
For those who are nostalgic, there is a mod that launches the Windows 95 operating system in Hytale. In a video shared on the Hytale Modding account on x.com, you can see how the modder iamcxv7 starts the operating system and clicks through various functions.
What does the community say about this? Unsurprisingly, the mod experiments are well-received. Under the post on x.com, which shows the implementation of Windows 95, users share their thoughts:
- “It took only five days… how,” writes the official Hytale account, to which Hytale Modding replies: “We can do EVERYTHING.”
- “Can Skyrim run on this?”, asks Matt LeClair the only relevant question – unfortunately, an answer is still pending.
- “This happened faster than I expected,” admits Hymods.
- “Next, GTA 6 in Hytale,” writes Leahcim – a hope that, given the pending release of Rockstar’s title, will likely be dashed.
It is also amusing that some users are asking for Doom or Hytale within Hytale. The answer is always the same: “That already exists.”
