Apex Legends is celebrating Halloween again, and for MeinMMO editor Jürgen Horn, that is always a reason to spend a lot of money. However, this year, both the skin offerings and the current game features are disappointing. Read here on MeinMMO why Halloween in his favorite game is so disappointing for Jürgen.
Who is this about? I am MeinMMO editor Jürgen Horn, and I am notorious for spending way too much money on skins in MMOs. Especially in Apex Legends, I practically collect cool legendary skins and enjoy my virtual wardrobe.
And right now, with Halloween approaching again, I have already set aside money to invest in cool skins. Because Halloween, as my experience over the past few years has shown, regularly inspires designers to create particularly outrageous skins. I was curious to see what would come this year.
Apex Legends promises a lot and ultimately disappoints
Why was I so excited for Halloween? My excitement was heightened when the first trailer for Halloween 2021 in Apex Legends was released. As expected from Apex Legends, the trailer was a perfectly staged masterpiece of cool voice lines and action. Various skins were also shown, including a nasty cyber-werewolf. Well, that one was only for the character Revenant, whom I barely ever play, but there were sure to be more.
And there were also hints of the cool Shadow Royale mode. So I set aside my entire evening to play the Halloween events and invest several euros in cool skins. Maybe I would even treat myself to a new heirloom item, of which there would surely be a new one again. Heirlooms are cool, personal weapons that you use instead of a boring punch in close combat.
Was that the first disappointment? But no sooner had I entered the game than the first disappointment hit. Because there was no new heirloom, and the new skins were not that great. Only the already known werewolf skin for Revenant was cool. But as I said, I barely play him.
The other legends, on the other hand, only offered boring reskins. Yeah, great, Seer is now running around in red or Bloodhound has red eyes. That didn’t convince me at all! For that, I wouldn’t even spend money!
I had hoped for a whole palette of skins, as was the case in previous events. Not just one truly unique skin and otherwise only boring color adjustments.
Hey, where is the Halloween mode? The next disappointment came shortly after: I spent several minutes searching for the Shadow Royale mode. In this mode, you play the regular battle royale but turn into a shadow after dying, which can fight its way back to life. Sort of like the Gulag in CoD Warzone, only on the entire map!
But the mode was nowhere to be found. Only a search on the internet revealed:
Ällerbätsch, it won’t be available until October 26!
However, I could play in maps specially decorated for Halloween in the arena. Yeah great, I’m really excited about that! I actually liked the arena mode when it was introduced in Season 9, but overall I prefer the unpredictability and excitement of battle royale. It doesn’t really matter to me that there is now a completely new map in the arena. They all feel quite similar to me.
By the way, I’m not alone in my opinion about the Halloween event. On reddit , players are already calling for a boycott of the game shop because the developers are currently bringing so little content and the event is so lame.
What was still positive? Overall, I was highly disappointed because there was really nothing I absolutely had to have and my anticipation for consumption had to go unfulfilled. But at least I got a few cool kills in the arena.
In battle royale mode, I coincidentally noticed that my favorite character Rampart can now carry her otherwise rather useless minigun and use it while moving instead of having to place it stationary at a fixed location. This makes this legend much more fun!
What did I end up spending money on? My big Apex evening didn’t go without consumption. In the shop, there were at least a few of the coolest skins from previous Halloween events in a bundle. And since I didn’t have the witch skin for Wraith yet, I seized this opportunity and treated myself to the teleportation artist as a green, wicked witch. This skin is by the way one of the rarest skins in Apex Legends!
