In Battlefield 6 starts on May 12, 2026, Season 3. MeinMMO editor Dariusz Müller has already played the new content and has a clear opinion on the new Golmud Railway.
EA let me take a look at the update before the start of Season 3. During the preview event, we tested the new content of Part 1: Warlords: Supremacy, including the M16A4, the RPK74M, and the L115. The highlight, of course, was the revamped version of Golmud Railway, which will be introduced in Battlefield 6 with Season 3.

More cover for infantry, but tanks dominate the battle
In Battlefield 6, Golmud Railway now takes place in Tajikistan, the same setting as the maps “Liberation Peak” and “Mirak Valley”. Additionally, the map received various adjustments to provide more opportunities for combat at both short and medium ranges.
The two flags in the north of the map (E&F, formerly A&B), which represented a small village, are now significantly more built-up. The buildings are larger, partly reinforced with stationary turrets, and numerous other cover options like construction containers, construction barricades, and sandbags have been added.

Overall, the map has received a multitude of new objects. This also applies to the other flags. In addition to those already mentioned, there are things like abandoned trucks, cars, portable toilets, and construction vehicles, as well as piles of debris and stacks of stones, wood, or tires.
The flag with the large warehouses in the south (B, formerly F) now additionally has many more objects in the outdoor and indoor areas. The construction flag in the west has even received completely new buildings. And the railway itself is now significantly longer and even allows for combat on the wagons while moving.
Furthermore, all (stationary) flags now have a sort of border, meaning fences, walls, and similar structures that should allow for combat on the flag itself (even outdoors) without players being constantly killed by snipers or vehicles from hundreds of meters away. The topography and landscaping of the map have also been revised. It is now less of a vast open area than before, but a region with hills and various vegetation.

Nevertheless, the map largely retains its charm and iconic gameplay mechanics. If a team wants to dominate, it needs to have the upper hand in vehicle combat. For that, the map still offers plenty of open space but also opportunities for tanks and other vehicles to take cover from destruction.
However, keep in mind: I prefer being a pioneer who blows up vehicles rather than driving them myself. So I can’t describe to you the impression of a vehicle main. However, I did sit for a few minutes at the turret of a tank and captured around half a dozen flags with my unknown driver before I got bored when enemy infantry didn’t pose a threat, and I left.
Snipers are strong but not overpowering
In Battlefield 4, I used to feel that as an infantryman, it was difficult to reach certain flags when snipers were lying in wait at corresponding positions watching the large, open area on the way there.
In Battlefield 6, the mix felt more pleasant to me. There are positions where snipers can become a problem, but I had the impression that there is almost always an alternative route to safely reach the flag or the annoying snipers. This was made possible especially through the new cover options and the slightly altered topography. I like the new Golmud Railway much better than the old original.
However, season tests always feel a bit different from the live version. This applies to the complete gameplay loop and not just to snipers or vehicles. This means I haven’t had an enemy team yet where almost everyone was camping. Usually, the selected creators also want to test the new weapons.
Speaking of weapons: The new guns are cool, but they don’t blow me away either. I’ll always gladly take an M16 that can be played fully automatic with an attachment, and an RPK with no recoil. However, these are also weapons that have been seen frequently in the various games. Whether they will make it onto our list of the best weapons remains to be seen: The German houses in Battlefield 6 are definitely not German craftsmanship, a developer explains why
