I hunt all monsters in the new game by the creators of Genshin Impact because the German names are so brilliant

Honkai Nexus Anima Titel title

MeinMMO editor Jasmin was able to sneak into the current test phase of Honkai: Nexus Anima. She particularly liked the designs and German names of the collectible creatures in the monster collection game.

Since I, like many others, grew up with Pokémon, I have developed a passion for collecting monsters. Therefore, I don’t hesitate to test various games in which I have to complete a collection of creatures.

Honkai: Nexus Anima also falls into this category. It is a game by the creators of Genshin Impact, set in the same universe as Honkai: Star Rail. Accordingly, there are the usual suspicious gacha mechanics, but this time combined with collecting and battling different monsters.

As I have already played several monster-collection games, I am accustomed to all sorts of critters. However, I was not prepared for the creatures that awaited me in the new gacha game.

Frittenflügler takes your order

In recent years, I haven’t seen nearly as many monsters in a game that are so creative in terms of design and German names. Well, “creative” might not fit perfectly all the time, but it certainly is blunt, which makes it funny again.

An example of this is the monster named Frittenflügler. When I wanted to complete a story mission involving a food competition, I found the creature behind the reception of the burger joint. Just the name Frittenflügler is truly hilarious, and the design fits perfectly, as its wings look like french fries boxes.

And in the game, there are many other monsters built on a similar principle:

  • Koffeala combines the words coffee and koala and is a koala in office worker attire who has to draw his coffee from an infusion bag.
  • Die Besewichtin is a small villainess whose hair is a broom.
  • There is a small cat hiding in a milk carton with cow horns attached. The name? Mimuh!

The list could go on forever. There are always new Anima where I am surprised at how witty the design or name is. The developers and German translators show courage when it comes to the design and names of the creatures.

It can also happen that one sometimes misses the mark. With one catchable creature, I had to pause because the name did not fit its appearance at all. Nudelpudel is not a dog at all, but a seal in a bowl of noodles. You can also see the monster on the left in the title image.

In English, the name makes more sense. Here, the seal is called Pupanoo. This is made up of the two words Pup, meaning young animal, and Noodle, meaning noodle.

Such names that make you pause are quite rare. Instead, I look forward to each new entry to have captured another creative monster with a funny name.

Have you had a chance to check out the test phase of Honkai: Nexus Anima? What do you think of it? And what is important to you about monsters? Feel free to write it to us in the comments.

We were also able to convince ourselves of the competitor Aniimo in the past. Here, the monsters are also a big highlight, but not from the design or name, but from their behavior: Aniimo in the Closed Beta played: Yes, the Pokémon-like looks as good as in the trailers, but the stars are the monsters
